12/12 - National Ding-A-Ling Day

Calling 1920...

~~ Telephone

It's National Ding-a-Ling Day... I ain't touching it.

What else is there? Festival of Unmentionable Thoughts? Not sure about that either, in our perpetual and seemingly increasingly censorious society that could contain vastly more than multitudes. Once mostly matters prurient or heretical from a religious perspective it now includes damn near anything and everything, especially politics, economics and sociology. There are venues where anything arguably controversial is blocked, you know, like somebody's sig line that says "Peace, y'all" or somesuch.

How about 12 by 12 works out to 144 which is a gross which free associates to "the dozens" which, for those of a reasonable antiquity calls to mind stuff needing one of those CAUTION; NOT FOR THE UNDULY SENSITIVE type warnings:

We'll have a couple of warm days before we get a big storm and it gets cold again. Looks like lots of snow out west. Y'all take care.

Thanks for the OT and all the music!

@Lookout

you time to deal with the effects of the rain. We too get a respite (what a concept here, a break in the rain, bwahahaha). The snow, of course, is in the mountains and those who choose to dwell there are well equipped and amply experienced in dealing with it. It is one of our state sanity tests for the others, vast hordes of whom, zombie like, begin chanting "ski trip, ski trip, ski trip" and venture up from all directions ignoring warnings of hazardous road conditions and worse.

That's a topic near and dear to my heart, for sure. I've long since lost track of the number of sound checks that I've done over my misspent musical career.

But given the state of the world, I'm having to change the thing I always say into the mike when it is my turn. I've always said "Check, Slovak, Pole, Zero" (inside nerd humor, I guess), but I just can't do it anymore...

Woke up not dead again this morning, so it is a good day. Heading out to the hospital now for my whittling-session to become a little more bionic. I'll check in later after I wake up.

Thanks for the OT, EL, and everybody be safe out there!

@usefewersyllables love yer sound check terms UFS! Smile

Old sportfishing boats typically have very poor audio quality. When I ran pelagic (ocean) trips for seabirds almost monthly I would get a chance or two to say mine. Testes one... [then wait a bit as if hunting still], two (sound almost suprised). Audio quality just poor enough (like a bad bullhorn) to get away with it. Wink

Everything went great, and I’m sitting here in the “toes above the nose” position, just having finished some ever-so-tasty hospital chocolate pudding. They’ve already had me up for my first round of PT, so that’s my reward. Give me chocolate and I’ll do damned near anything…

It’s a little bit achy and stingy, but in 10 minutes they’ll bring around my next tiny Dixie cup of Chemical Pleasantness, and then I’ll settle in for a good nap. Anyhoo, thanks to the whole community for the support, and for a good place to share an organ recital… Be well, everybody!

As you know, technically the knee is not an organ, but your choice of words to describe the replacement of a vital part is very stylish. I think your whole comment is one for the archives ; ).

I’m glad you’re feeling no pain, and I wish you a smooth and strong recovery.

I just got back from walking a lap of the floor. I figure that if they are gonna keep waking me up to poke at me, I might as well get something for it… The second knee is being much easier than the first one was, because I know exactly what to expect. And “Better living through chemistry” ain’t hurting matters one bit, of course.

Hi all, Hey EL! Hope it's all good out there!

Good thing Marconi didn't see what they did with his radio. Wink

Great obscure Ian Stewart tune! He was awesome, the sixth stone is right. Without his van they could not have gotten to the gigs in the early days. Allen Klein (ABKCO) thought he just looked too straight to be a stone. Boogie with Stu is an Ian Stewart (in part) composition...

Are those flying specks in the background of the live hummingbird feeder link raindrops or bugs, or what?

It's amazing how constant motion can also be so mesmerising. Thanks for the music and the video link.

I saw the bees and hummingbirds in living colour this morning when I checked back on the feed.

What I saw originally was at night in b&w, with only the occasional flitting by of a hummingbird, and lots of unidentifiable specks in the background. They're not there tonight. I think the many specks I saw flying around last night were either insects or rain drops. Anyway, it is fascinating to watch. Please repost the link on Friday Photography so more can enjoy it.

from the 1968 years, I remember. But never had a record player around here. Meanwhile I have one, but have no speakers. But I have memories and the version I remember sounded MUCH, MUCH better. Wink
Now in my sister's house there are huge, excellent speakers my brother left behind some 25 plus years. My sister never listens to music, she is an eye person.

Sigh, there is always something wrong in my world. I told you so, I have to come back.

Be well, all, I hope it's not as cold in your woods as it is here. 21 Fahrenheit. It feels very good to stay in Bed.

oh, oh, you have no idea by whom and with what I have been threatened with by 'the authorities' having
taking over the control of my sister's house. nah, I am very obedient and do nothing bad againt the bad stuff that I look at helplessly.

There are three things I can't stand anymore, the Ukraine discussions, football (soccer), and talking heads with nothing in their heads worth talking about.

I do not wanna think anymore about anything.

It is very cold here in my woods. I think it doesn't take a long time til I can't pay for heating my house.

Be well. all of you and survive. We need each other. Good night from over here.

Toshiko Akiyoshi changed the face of jazz music over her sixty-year career. As one of few women and Asian musicians in the jazz world, Akiyoshi infused Japanese culture, sounds, and instruments into her music. As a pianist, bandleader, and composer-arranger, Akiyoshi cemented her place as one of the most important jazz musicians of the twentieth century. ...
