The Wildflowers of the Texas Hill Country by Marshall Enquist sits on my desk. He carried a black board or construction paper and photo'd all the flowers against black backgrounds. I sorta like the out of focus flowers of same species when natural unmanipulated shots, but it can get cluttered quickly. For the field guide use having them on that uniform dark background works great. Sorta punches the color out more. Beautiful stuff SP!

The one on right is called Indian Blanket or Firewheel, and Coreopsis is on left.
A patch of Firewheel looks like an Indian Blanket they seemed to think when naming it...
This is a variant Firewheel that is mostly red.
