Sorry I didn't have time yesterday (Thursday) to put anything together. I'll be on the road almost all day today. Leaving out before this publishes, might be able to check in this evening.

So this will be your open thread.

I'll leave you with just one thought. Go out and have some fun. Enjoy life while you still can. Take a walk. Visit some friends or family. Lift your spirits.

@ggersh , to watch it. Nothing personal and thanks anyway. Too early in the day for that. On second thought 11:59 pm would be too early. Perhaps someone with a stronger stomach could report in print. The alphabet is way less horrific.

Speaking of the alphabet, I just read that the Cyrillic alphabet was worked out by two Byzantine monks, Cyril and Methodius. They adapted the Greek alphabet and added letters to represent the Slavic sounds.

Another great Russian who fiddled around with symbols to represent and organize things, was Dmitri Mendeleev. This was the guy who gave us that periodic table of elements to memorize in eighth grade. Thanks Dmitri. Who knew the Russkies were so smart?

@ggersh . Nothing like making something up out of whole cloth. I guess all the USians who can't pay their utilities, rent, groceries, insurance, healthcare, transportation costs etc. will be convinced that everything is a-okay because she said so.
Thanks for the translation, my brain would not have kapished had I clicked on that, it would have instantly fried.

I didn't realize who it was with the little "play now" button covering her mug. So I clicked. Big mistake. Got about two seconds into it before I could hit the "stop" button.

Well, that's about it. That's what we have. And that's what we owe. It isn't very much. But Pat and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we have got is honestly ours.

I should say this, that Pat doesn't have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her she would look good in anything.

Hope all is well for folks or as well as it can be for you. We are getting our first snow of the year. Since it was in the 50’s yesterday the roads are clear and people are going about their business. I have family visiting from Texas and they are staying warm in their RV and we do not have big plans. Taking advantage of that, I am doing some cooking to further warm my place.

Later I will take a walk outside to enjoy the peaceful appearance of the snow on the trees, etc. This will allow me to escape the pleas from the D’s to save democracy and whatever else is spewing from the mouths!

Few have noticed that Russia appears to have a wide diversity of opinions on the Ukraine situation. At least this would be the case for an authoritarian state ruled with an iron fist. In the western stream of thought, there’s a lot of fanfare concerning criticisms of Vladimir Putin’s handling of the crisis. It’s as if the liberal world order can’t make up its mind. Is Putin an outdoorsy Stalin? Or, is Russia more of a democracy than the union next door run by an appointee Ursula von der Leyen?

In the European Union, an unelected Führer threatens member nations that step out of line. The central banks either bribe or hold ransom every house of government in the EU, and every leader from Athens to Zurich is in the pocket of the same elites who created the Nazis back in the 1930s. For years, the elites who congregate at Davos and in Brussels have dictated everything from fiscal policy to culture to member nations. Their assertions about European values and diversity are a lie. They are after compliance, a unified Fourth Reich bent on the same goals as the third version, only using Slavic proxy warriors instead of German panzers.

concert last night, speaking of "on the road": longtime Boston favorites Dropkick Murphys are touring in support of their new album, and came through Denver at the Paramount. It was a semi-acoustic show, but they still have the edge and the fire that we all love so much.

The new album consists of a bunch of never-before-published Woody Guthrie lyrics for which they have written music. They were contacted by the Guthrie family as being one of the last few protest bands that brought the real passion to the table, and were given unique permission to bring a bunch of unheard, unrecorded material out into the light of day. Some of the new tunes really bring it home. They mixed up tracks from the new album with their classics all night. Guthrie and Celtic Punk go together hand-in-hand. "This Machine Still Kills Fascists", indeed...

@usefewersyllables , Dropkick Murphy's would be on my list to see if they rolled into my town especially if they have adapted some Woody Guthrie tunes to their repertoire. Can't disagree; punk and Guthrie meld together well. Those Celts know what they're about. And yeah, keep that killer guitar busy.
Glad you had a good time. And thanks for the heads-up on their new album, will have to give it a listen.

we're not supposed to share, so don't tell anybody (even though Ken said it onstage) is that they'll be releasing another album with 10 more brand-new Guthrie-lyric tunes later on in the winter. They wrote and recorded them all at the same time, but they are releasing them in two separate parts. So that'll be 20 new Guthrie tunes to think about. That's going to be dynamite. But you didn't hear it from me.

the band, here's the video of their live free concert from Fenway Park at the height of the Covid pandemic. The park was empty, so they livestreamed the show. We watched it live, and were power-pogoing in the living room, at least as much as 60-somethings could at the time! It really does capture the essence of the band. Capture it if interested, because I'm not sure how long it'll stay up...
