“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”
Pablo Picasso

What is the significance of a name? Most of us do not take the opportunity to officially change our name outside of traditional legal events, such as a marriage related event. Charles Philip Arthur George has made the easiest choice to keep his first name as his new official name as King of . Since it has been used by previous monarchs the King Charles III.

The two Charles' were the endposts of England's experiment being governed as a Republic. A little over a hundred years before our country's creation of a Republic in the American colonies.

The Commonwealth was the political structure during the period from 1649 to 1660 when England and Wales, later along with Ireland and Scotland,[1] were governed as a republic after the end of the Second English Civil War and the trial and execution of Charles I. The republic's existence was declared through "An Act declaring England to be a Commonwealth",[2] adopted by the Rump Parliament on 19 May 1649.
...
n retrospect, the period of republican rule for England was a failure in the short term. During the 11-year period, no stable government was established to rule the English state for longer than a few months at a time. Several administrative structures were tried, and several Parliaments called and seated, but little in the way of meaningful, lasting legislation was passed. The only force keeping it together was the personality of Oliver Cromwell, who exerted control through the military by way of the "Grandees", being the Major-Generals and other senior military leaders of the New Model Army. Not only did Cromwell's regime crumble into near anarchy upon his death and the brief administration of his son, but the monarchy he overthrew was restored in 1660, and its first act was officially to erase all traces of any constitutional reforms of the Republican period.

________

King Charles I of England, Ireland and Scotland met the same fate as his Catholic Grandmother Mary Queen of Scots. Off with their heads.

His religious policies, coupled with his marriage to a Roman Catholic, generated antipathy and mistrust from Reformed religious groups such as the English Puritans and Scottish Covenanters, who thought his views too Catholic. He supported high church Anglican ecclesiastics such as Richard Montagu and William Laud, and failed to aid continental Protestant forces successfully during the Thirty Years' War. His attempts to force the Church of Scotland to adopt high Anglican practices led to the Bishops' Wars, strengthened the position of the English and Scottish parliaments, and helped precipitate his own downfall.

King Charles II of England, Ireland and Scotland was invited back to restore the monarchy and ruled until his death in 1685.

The Restoration was accompanied by social change. Puritanism lost its momentum. Theatres reopened after having been closed during the protectorship of Oliver Cromwell, and bawdy "Restoration comedy" became a recognisable genre. Theatre licences granted by Charles required that female parts be played by "their natural performers", rather than by boys as was often the practice before;

I have been watching Historical Context youtube channel to better understand early colonization of North America by looking at writings during the time periods. The tensions between corporations, religions, local vs remote control and various European nations existed from the first expatriate communities in the 1600's. The changes in English government effected the colonies and a couple of videos were presented for better understanding of of the time period between the first two King Charles.

The Queen and Her Legacy: 21st Century Britain Has Never Looked So Medieval Mint Press News Sept 9, 2022

Anyone in the UK who imagined they lived in a representative democracy – one in which leaders are elected and accountable to the people – will be in for a rude awakening over the next days and weeks.
...
The world’s urgent problems – from the war in Europe to a looming climate catastrophe – are no longer of interest or relevance. They can wait till Britons emerge from a more pressing national trauma.

Domestically, the BBC has told those facing a long winter in which they will not be able to afford to heat their homes that their suffering is “insignificant” compared to that of the family of a 96-year-old woman who died peacefully in the lap of luxury. They can wait too.
...
Undoubtedly, the Queen carried out her duties supremely well during her 70 years on the throne. As BBC pundits keep telling us, she helped maintain social “stability” and ensured “continuity” of rule.

The start of her reign in 1952 coincided with her government ordering the suppression of the Mau Mau independence uprising in Kenya. Much of the population were put in concentration camps and used as slave labour – if they weren’t murdered by British soldiers.
...
The outlines of that plan have been visible for a while. Charles will be rechristened the King of the Green New Deal. He will symbolise Britain’s global leadership against the climate crisis.

If the Queen’s job was to rebrand empire as Commonwealth, transmuting the Mau Mau massacre into gold medals for Kenyan long-distance runners, Charles’ job will be to rebrand as a Green Renewal the death march led by transnational corporations.

Which is why now is no time for silence or obedience. Now is precisely the moment – as the mask slips, as the establishment needs time to refortify its claim to deference – to go on the attack.

Competition of the Western economic model continues to move forward.

Asia’s future takes shape in Vladivostok, the Russian Pacific The Cradle - Pepe Escobar Sept 8, 2022

The Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok is one of the indispensable annual milestones for keeping up not only with the complex development process of the Russian Far East but major plays for Eurasia integration.

Mirroring an immensely turbulent 2022, the current theme in Vladivostok is ‘On the Path to a Multipolar World.’ Russian President Vladimir Putin himself, in a short message to business and government participants from 68 nations, set the stage:

“The obsolete unipolar model is being replaced by a new world order based on the fundamental principles of justice and equality, as well as the recognition of the right of each state and people to their own sovereign path of development. Powerful political and economic centers are taking shape right here in the Asia-Pacific region, acting as a driving force in this irreversible process.”
...
In a nutshell: Asia is the new epicenter of technological progress and productivity.

No more an ‘object of colonization’

Taking place only two weeks before another essential annual gathering – the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand – it is no wonder some of the top discussions at the EEF revolve around the increasing economic interpolation between the SCO and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
...
Crucially, India not only supports the Russian concept of Greater Eurasia Partnership but is engaged in setting up a free trade agreement with the EAEU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, incidentally, came to the Vladivostok forum last year.

In all of the above nuanced interventions, some themes are constant. After the Afghanistan disaster and the end of the US occupation there, the stabilizing role of the SCO cannot be overstated enough. An ambitious road map for cooperation is a must – probably to be approved at the Samarkand summit. All players will be gradually changing to trade in bilateral currencies. And creation of transit corridors is leading to the progressive integration of national transit systems.
...
Whatever Atlanticists may think of it, the last word for the moment might belong to Vitaly Markelov, from the board of directors of Gazprom: Russia is ready for winter. There will be warmth and light everywhere.”

At least the new monarchy is a distraction from rising energy costs, bankruptcies, and social disintegration in the UK. Add in the new PM, Liz Truss, and you have a real recipe for disaster.

Poor EU, UK, and collective west who are all descending into a WEF nightmare of their own choosing (as opposed to a choice by the people).

(As an aside, gas was less than $3 in GA yesterday...I'll fill up on my next trip to town.)

Raining this morning so no trip to town for trade day. Worked out just right for the young cabbage, broccoli, and greens plants we put in the garden last evening. Supposed to have light rain all weekend followed by a week of dry weather. I want to take advantage and get some finish/sealer on the decks, and there's always mowing to do here at the end of the growing season. I leave the big field for wildflowers till after frost (typically mid-November).

So thanks for the royal OT, and hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

It's fun to share a passing dish. We are having a community dinner tomorrow, Thinking of
making a ginger root tonic, Boston baked beans and a cornbread.

The issues being promoted in the eastern realms are very important. Shared development of
transportation corridors and trade, flexible economic formats and mutual support. It will
minimize the destructive influence of the west sooner or later. let's hope for sooner!

Enjoy the weekend.

Interesting article on it.

Zelensky is literally selling Ukraine to US corporations on Wall Street

Ukraine’s Western-backed leader Volodymyr Zelensky opened the New York Stock Exchange telling Wall Street his country is “open” for foreign corporations to exploit it with $400 billion in state selloffs.

Michael Hudson:

In an interview with Multipolarista, economist Michael Hudson compared the new emergency anti-labor laws imposed by the Ukrainian government to the brutal neoliberal policies implemented by Chile’s far-right Pinochet dictatorship after a CIA-backed coup in 1973.

“It’s jaw dropping,” Hudson said of Zelensky’s Wall Street Journal op-ed. “It’s like a parody of what a socialist would have written about how the class war would be put in into action by a fascist government.”

“So of course he was welcomed on the stock exchange for abolishing labor’s rights,” Hudson added. “You could not have a more black-and-white example” of class war.

“This is exactly what [French President] Macron said when he said the ‘end of abundance.’ The Ukrainian labor force has just experienced the end of affluence, neoliberal style.

“And as Mr. Zelensky said, it may be the end of affluence for the labor force, but it’s going to be a bonanza for you investors in the New York Stock Exchange. Come on in and join the party!”

“Somebody’s loss is turned into somebody else’s game. And that’s what happens in a class war. It’s a zero-sum game. There is no attempt at all to raise living standards.”

“Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe – but Zelensky said it’s not poor enough. He said, you think this is something, wait until our new law takes effect. That’ll really show you what it means to be the poorest country in Europe.”

“But it’ll also be the richest country in Europe for the 1%,” Hudson concluded.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Russia did install a president that put the Ukraine people’s needs before corporations and this plan went south?

There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?

Harris is unburdened of speaking going forward.

@snoopydawg Ukraine is becoming.
But then, look around here.
Every new or prospective client I have interviewed for 2 weeks has asked for a payment plan. One 88 yr old who is newly widowed, requiring probate, is looking for a job! She can't live on her Social Security and eat and drive. She gets a property tax break due to age, but has no disability, can't get that exemption. She would be better off with some illness or physical limitation. She is punished for being in good health.
This is a perfect example of how a shitty country operates.
I gave her a big fee discount, fwiw.

The queen dying? I wonder how many countries will mourn when Kissinger dies? The only ones I feel sorry for are the grandkids that lost their grandma. Other than that what has she done for the citizens of the UK? Did she advocate for better wages and an increase in the NHS after Thatcher started the decimation of it or anything that would help the working class? Is Charles or William or any of the royals? I don’t remember reading about it if she did. People who are born into a life of luxury have everything they need to have an abundant life and should want others to have the same thing. I love the graphic of the pothole opening up to hell where I hope people like Albright and McCain are roasting.

Today's topics makes it difficult to write, as I learned to spit when saying Cromwell and it messes up the keyboard. England's commonwealth was more of less the same kind of republic as the US is a democracy, but even less so, especially for poor old Ireland. Of course, a big hint lies in the fact that this was a Puritan revolution and a puritannical rule by hard core Puritans in every sense of the word, a theofascist police state lorded over by the infamous lord protector. ok, I'll stop.

Sometimes I think the USA never completely cut the umbilical cord from England. In ways, English settlers are still with us in some form, as Puritan-lite or Second Sons of English aristocracy.
