Album of the Week 6-18-22

Afternoon folks!

There's a whole mess of great blues here today. There's a compilation of Chess records artists including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter. There's also a Chuck Berry album and a Magic Sam album. There's plenty of blues-rock from Rory Gallagher's Taste, recorded live at the Isle of Wight Festival to Link Wray and Dave Edmunds. Rounding out the selection is a Doc & Merle Watson album.

Enjoy!

Here 'tis:

Wizards From The South Side

Chuck Berry - The London Chuck Berry Sessions

Magic Sam Blues Band - West Side Soul

Taste - Live At The Isle Of Wight

Link Wray - Early Recordings

Dave Edmunds & Love Sculpture

Doc & Merle Watson - Two Days In November

I appreciate you posting them and thank you for the time you put into it. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to convert each album from analog to digital to youtube.

Are you able to upload the hi-res file to youtube and do they offer it in hi-res in the videos, or did youtube re-incode the file to a different format?

I browsed through the videos on your channel and saw some are producing some pretty high view counts. Good job. Does youtube still have a threshold for view counts before monetizing?

@JtC

somewhere between the wav file on my desktop and the video on youtube there is a drop in quality. i don't know how much is attributable to the program that melds the album cover to the audio and spits out a video and how much is attributable to youtube's encoding. it's not an awful drop, but i do notice it.

heh, i've learned some things about youtube in the process of doing this. i had about a week where my views for videos went through the roof. that rise was largely because youtube's algorithm suddenly decided i had great videos and they very broadly "suggested" them to viewers. i picked up a whole bunch of subscribers and now, since youtube isn't promoting my videos so aggressively my views are back down to where they were before that week. not that i really care. i only post the videos to share them with my friends.

i don't know about monetization. since i'm posting stuff whose rights belong to the artists who made the music, i haven't ever had anything to monetize and haven't tried.

anyway, have a great weekend!

Hey Joe,

Thanks for all the great sounds! Bunch of awesome stuff. I wish I knew what year each was from. Some I have looked for I could not find at wiki...

This below I wrote this before I saw JtC's comments and your reply... which just make it more interesting methinks.

So Sunday before yesterday, 8 days ago, I typed a 'y' into my address bar, youtube came up, I hit enter, the basic page comes up. The first top left selection on the page I see is Link Wray. After getting over that shock I clicked it to see it was put up by this feller blues berry just TEN minutes earlier, and it had no views. So I quick clicked on it of course. Cause I want to encourage this guy. At the end of the song I looked and another Link Wray had just been uploaded by this blues berry feller, again, 10 min. ago, with no views. So I clicked on a second Link Wray song. At the end it happened again, and again. It was like magic. Each song said it was just uploaded minutes prior and had no views. I just kept clickin', ya know, tryin' to encourage this blues berry fella... but so I was the first to hear at least a half-dozen of them... and I knew one of this weeks picks early. Wink

Oh those algos... I presume it knew I had watched a bunch of blues berry vids... but pretty dang funny it was if you ask me.

So, I'm there yesterday and I get another hit fed to me, with the keywords bluesberry in it. It wasn't you this time. But I think I might have found a good theme song for your Saturday album posts. You probably had it come up before or know of it anyway, but just in case... pretty cool stuff:

Bluesberry Jam - Juzzie Smith (from Oz)

a couple other good ones from him... Coolest Harmonica Solo - Juzzie Smith
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmOb76IuyRc
He is funny too... Juzzie Smith is a one-man band, based in Byron Bay Australia.

All aboard Everybody - the train song

love his strumming and blowin'...

thanks again for all the great sounds...

@dystopian

heh, i don't have the info in front of me about the year of each of those releases, but if wiki doesn't have them, i've found an excellent resource is discogs.com. they have pretty good info on more albums and variants of them than you can shake a stick at.

i'll see if i can include year info or a discogs link when i post in the future.

heh, thanks for the views. Smile and of course, thanks for the tunes!
