Afternoon folks!

I have four albums for you this week.

We've got two albums by Memphis Slim. One of those albums features Peter Green (original Fleetwood Mac) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and the other features Canned Heat and the Memphis Horns.

Also we've got an album by piano and guitar player Henry Townsend and a bluegrass album by Vassar Clements.

Enjoy!

Memphis Slim w/ Peter Green - Blue Memphis

Henry Townsend - "Mule"

Vassar Clements - The Bluegrass Session

Have a great weekend!

looks exactly like my former husband (RIP). Lately he appears in my dreams and I have the feeling that I get to know him - for real - only now. We met 1967. Heh, a little late, but - gosh I am not the smartest gal, as you know. It takes some time to sink in.

Did you know that most racism happens inside families, and is never admitted by those, who express those feelings.

What I learned now by going through the trash piles my sister left in our house, I couldn't have imagined what really happened back then in the seventies. And oh boy, things happened. It would have been better I had not found the documents. Sigh.

I learned a lot of lessons.I hope I can forget it all and still have a future for my son and myself.

Sorry, the picture of Townsend got at me.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, all.

My older sister - back about 1968 - took it upon herself to broaden my musical horizons and
took me down to about the only record store in our small town and I ended up with 'Living the Blues' by Canned Heat...

Never saw them live, but was fortunate later, living in Portland to catch some great live performances: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Gatemouth Brown...Vassar Clements, too - with Old And In The Way. Great local blues/bluegrass/rock and roll scene then, too.

Some more Canned Heat and Vassar Clements still have all of these on vinyl, *somewhere*:

@Blue Republic

thanks for the tunes and the reminisces. i also missed out on canned heat (live) back in the heyday, but did manage to catch them when the some of the remaining members joined up and did a tour sometime in the 90's. they played an outdoor festival gig in patterson park in baltimore - a good time.

have a great evening!

Hey Joe,

Awesome stuff man! Peter Green was on fire in this. Understated, yet burning to the bone. It was some really great work of his. Memphis Slim was amazing too... as the purists knew.

@dystopian

yep, the playing he did on "otis spann and earl hooker" caused me to reevaluate green's playing after i heard it back in the early 70's. i had heard all of his fleetwood mac albums and thought of him as largely influenced by bb king. after hearing him do that dead on knock-off of earl hooker i started hearing an influence that i had previously missed.
