Canned Heat

Album of the week 8-9-25

Afternoon folks!

We've got some serious blues and blues-rock this week. Starting off we've got an album from Texas bluesman Albert Collins from early in his career (1962-63) followed by a late career live album from blues guitarist Jimmy Burns. After that, it's on to a bunch of live blues-rock albums starting with Canned Heat with John Lee Hooker and the Chambers Brothers, then it's on to Santana in 1968 and The Allman Brothers in 1970. We finish up mellowing out with New Orleans piano player James Booker.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 3-29-25

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got a bunch of good stuff, starting out with a couple of classic albums. The first is John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat's early 70's double album and then there's an Etta James album from 1960. Following that is an album from the somewhat obscure rock 'n roller Roy Head followed by a more recent album from a fellow local to me, Big Joe Maher, who is an excellent drummer and vocalist. After that there's some Funkadelic and a somewhat peculiar but amusing album from King Curtis. You may think you know country music, but you ain't heard nothin' until you hear King Curtis do Tumblin' Tumbleweeds. Heh. After that we've got some rock from Alvin Lee (formerly of Ten Years After) and we finish up with some prog rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 9-28-24

Afternoon folks!

This week we have some great acoustic blues for you. Starting out we've got a compilation of delta slide guitar wizard Tampa Red's 78's from the 20's and 30's. Following that is a nice album of Piedmont Blues from John Jackson. After that, we go electric with Beaumont, Texas' Phillip Walker followed by an early (1969) Chambers brothers album. Then it's on to blues-rock with a live album from Canned Heat which may have a cut that is not available in the U.S. - if you have a vpn, you can probably get it. After that, we've got some straight rock from an EP I found laying around in my old 45's from Be Bop Deluxe, and we finish off with an album from Redbone which features their big hit. You'll probably recognize the hit when you hear it, though you might not remember the title or the band.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 7-27-24

Afternoon folks!

There's some great ear-treats this week. Starting off, there's an album from Albert King and an album with 60's era Chicago blues recordings of James Cotton, Otis Rush and Homesick James. From there, you can boogie with Canned Heat, rock with the MC5 and then mellow out a bit with Bonnie Raitt. Coming into the home stretch, there's a Jorma Kaukonen album of country bluesish tunes and finishing up in the diversity department, there's an album by German prog-rockers Triumvirat.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 3-2-24

Afternoon folks!

It's a great week this week. Starting off, there's a compilation of later recordings by early Chicago bluesman Tampa Red. After that there's another compilation of some great r&b by piano player Joe Liggins and his band. Finishing off the blues category there's a half of a live album by B.B. King which I'll post the other half eventually after I do some more cleaning up of the disc. In a category of its own is an album by the Jimmy Castor Bunch which you'll probably recognize one of his big early 70's hits, "The Troglodyte Song," it's kind of an interesting album. In the blues-rock category there are albums by John Mayall and Canned Heat and finishing us up in the diversity category is a solo album by Rick Danko of The Band.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

In the blues-rock category we've got a bunch of stuff - an album from Robin Trower, an EP from Canned Heat in the mid-80's, an album from The Pirates, a compilation album from Faces and the part of a mid-period Fleetwood Mac album that the lords of copyright will allow to be heard. To finish off, in the diversity department there's a psychedelic album from Strawberry Alarm Clock.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

There's a bunch of cool stuff, or stuff to cool off by here to listen to. There's some of Chicago harmonica player Big Walter Horton and some Hank Crawford. There's a bunch of blues rock with Canned Heat, a live album from The Animals and The Pirates. I've uploaded part of an album by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, which I'll upload the rest of later tonight.

Enjoy and have a great holiday!
