Friday night Photos Harbor Island Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 03/04/2022 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday Everyone. As always, post any photos you like.
On Monday I went for a walk on Harbor Island. The island is a 1 1/2 mile long man made strip of land on the San Diego Bay. There's not much there other than a few hotels, restaurants, and marinas and a nice view of downtown San Diego.
View of downtown from the east end of the island.

Houseboat Row. I wonder if these houseboats ever leave the dock?
View of downtown and Coronado Bridge from the west end of the island.

Lovely Photos!
Does the island form something like a barrier to the open sea for the harbor?
Here's a picture I took many years ago, when we had few neighbors and the skies were still dark, except in the direction of Seattle, of course. It's very long distance, so doesn't have great resolution after I blew it up but... one can see in the upper left hand side, near the rising moon, a red little dot. That's the planet Mars.

Hi, Sima
Beautiful shot of the moon.
In answer to your question, no, the San Diego bay front is well protected. The only reason for the island was for hotels, restaurants and marinas.

outstanding pic Sima!
thanks,

Love the boat photos
Mastomania for sure. Seems some marinas are mostly stink pots and others blow boats.
My guess the house boats are semi-permanently dockside.
They may be somewhat seaworthy, to move would require a tow.
Kinda like the old girls I used to run.
Thanks for hosting!
question everything
Hi, QMS
Great shot of the tugboat. How much time did you put in on a tug?

about 3 years
started with harbor tugs, near shore vessels
did the anchor handling tugs offshore a lot
then worked up to ocean going tugs
huge water churning machines
12' twin screw props pushed by
twin 6000 horse engines
damn, but we could pull heavy some shit around
question everything
Cool.
Sounds like a great experience.

Thanks for the visual diversion from all things war.
Joe Manchin would be right at home with all those houseboats.
Thanks, humphrey
If I woke up tomorrow and read someone had scuttled Manchins boat, I'd probably be doing the happy dance.

San Diego appears to be very close to the water. Are people worried about rising sea levels?
Anyway, here's Fred in a box... in a box. True feline talent I think.

Hi, BR
Love the shot of Fred in a box...in a box. He truly is a cats cat.
Yes, San Diego and all the other coastal cities in the county are concerned about rising sea levels.

Hmm It look like your cat might be related to this one.
Love it.
Great find, humphrey.

Fred's got new shoes
and a bed with a skylight above. He's just as photogenic as always, just a bit more mature looking.
Hi Social
Thanks for the scenes of San Diego. So much blue!
Just another hot sunny day here ...
Thanks for hosting Social, and enjoy the weekend all.
Hi, Janis.
The blue skies on Monday were great. Today winter intruded and we had heavy rain.

great pics SP!
Great pixels SP! Can't believe how built up downtown is now. Gadzooks! That looks like a Torrey Pine behind the mermaid methinks? Coral trees are often great for birds, especially orioles hit them for nectar. Oriole on coral flower against blue sky works nice.
I had four C-130 blast over the house only 500' up, not 30 seconds apart, a couple days ago. Pretty sure the Russians are coming.
My Aunt lived in Moscow, I think in the late 70's or early 80's, editor for a publication. She spoke nothing but great respect and flowering praise for the place and people. She loved it there. So, I hope they are coming soon.
Be well all!

Thank you, dystopian
It's a nice looking pine tree behind the mermaid, but I don't think it's a Torrey Pine.
This is a Torrey Pine.

My sister and her family lived
in LA for 10-12 years. She talked about how pretty San Diego was/is. I never got that far south. I did visit Pismo Beach and Morro Bay. The PCH has some gorgeous views. Hope they haven't been wrecked by wildfires. Rec'd!!
