Friday night Photos Harbor Island Edition

Happy Friday Everyone. As always, post any photos you like.

On Monday I went for a walk on Harbor Island. The island is a 1 1/2 mile long man made strip of land on the San Diego Bay. There's not much there other than a few hotels, restaurants, and marinas and a nice view of downtown San Diego.

View of downtown from the east end of the island.

Does the island form something like a barrier to the open sea for the harbor?

Here's a picture I took many years ago, when we had few neighbors and the skies were still dark, except in the direction of Seattle, of course. It's very long distance, so doesn't have great resolution after I blew it up but... one can see in the upper left hand side, near the rising moon, a red little dot. That's the planet Mars.

@Sima
Beautiful shot of the moon.
In answer to your question, no, the San Diego bay front is well protected. The only reason for the island was for hotels, restaurants and marinas.

@Sima GREAT picture Sima! Wonderful. That is a small red dot to catch that well! Great job! Outstanding! Once in a friends 10" superscope I saw a polar cap on Mars fairly well. Of course very briefly as we were not in best atmosphere for viewing. You just keep watching it, slightly fuzzy, and all of a sudden there will be some moments without any atmospheric distortion whatsoever, crystal clear and sharp, and it is wonderful, and then it's over. Ten more minutes for 10 more seconds.

thanks,

Mastomania for sure. Seems some marinas are mostly stink pots and others blow boats.
My guess the house boats are semi-permanently dockside.
They may be somewhat seaworthy, to move would require a tow.

Kinda like the old girls I used to run.

Great shot of the tugboat. How much time did you put in on a tug?

@Socialprogressive

started with harbor tugs, near shore vessels
did the anchor handling tugs offshore a lot
then worked up to ocean going tugs
huge water churning machines
12' twin screw props pushed by
twin 6000 horse engines
damn, but we could pull heavy some shit around

Joe Manchin would be right at home with all those houseboats.

If I woke up tomorrow and read someone had scuttled Manchins boat, I'd probably be doing the happy dance.

San Diego appears to be very close to the water. Are people worried about rising sea levels?

Anyway, here's Fred in a box... in a box. True feline talent I think.

Love the shot of Fred in a box...in a box. He truly is a cats cat.
Yes, San Diego and all the other coastal cities in the county are concerned about rising sea levels.

Great pixels SP! Can't believe how built up downtown is now. Gadzooks! That looks like a Torrey Pine behind the mermaid methinks? Coral trees are often great for birds, especially orioles hit them for nectar. Oriole on coral flower against blue sky works nice.

I had four C-130 blast over the house only 500' up, not 30 seconds apart, a couple days ago. Pretty sure the Russians are coming.

My Aunt lived in Moscow, I think in the late 70's or early 80's, editor for a publication. She spoke nothing but great respect and flowering praise for the place and people. She loved it there. So, I hope they are coming soon.

Be well all!

@dystopian
It's a nice looking pine tree behind the mermaid, but I don't think it's a Torrey Pine.
This is a Torrey Pine.

Hill Rising is MSM, that's what makes it notable
for a full week

The politics morning show “Rising,” produced by The Hill and which I currently co-host, was suspended by YouTube on Thursday for allegedly violating the platform’s rules around election misinformation. Two infractions were cited: First, the outlet posted the full video of former President Donald Trump’s recent speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on its page. The speech, of course, was chock full of craziness. Second, “Rising” played a minutelong clip of Trump’s commentary on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which included the claim that none of it would have happened if not for a “rigged election.”
