HEY! It's Labor Day.  After decades, almost centuries, of the suppression and repression  of labor, unions, union organizers, union members and the like through strikebreaking, assassinations, murders, massacres and forced internal expulsions and exile by organized mob violence and armed force involving police, sheriffs, private armies, Pinkertons and the National Guard, we celebrate Labor for a Day, except for maybe Wobblies and Commies, no doubt even in Lattimer, Ludlow, Bisbee and other such places as well as, no doubt, in all of our "right to work" states.

It is a great day and a tradition to feast on some union made picnic chow.  Here's one list of such products: https://teamsters332.com/union-made/ .  There are others; that list, for example, omits Annabelle Candy Company a family owned firm in Hayward, CA, famous for Rocky Road, Abba-Zaba, Look, Big Hunk, U-No and Annabelle Candy Co., Petitioner, v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue, Respondent, 314 F.2d 1 (9th Cir. 1962)

Unions gave us the 5 day week, 40 hour week, 8 hour work day and much more.  In fact, according to George Meany:

Every piece of progressive social legislation passed by Congress in the 20th century bears a union label.

So, when in doubt,

HUELGA!

Exercise Spade Fork was a sinister Government Training Exercise conducted from September 6 to September 27 in 1962. The premise was that a foreign first strike nuclear attack had taken out the White House and the Pentagon and seriously incapacitated most emergency relocation facilities. The NSA would pretty much take over the country with the assistance of the FBI, assorted pre-written executive orders would be signed by the President, including detention of everybody on the Feebs' no doubt enormous target list, given that Jedgar the Nazi was running it, publication of the Federal Register would be "suspended" and who knows what else.

on this globe, once pretty much do just that, breezed into town and landed a gig doing trim work and such on some bullshit spec houses. Told the foreman that I was there until I got enough bread for a new guitar. One Friday I did have just enough bread, got me an axe and breezed back out of town. A buddy who got me the gig later told me that the foreman was astounded, even after he explained to him that I had told him ahead of time what the plan was.

That seems unusual.

As to Fight Procrastination Day, may be tomorrow but not today.

Well, hope everyone can avoid laboring today and enjoy food, friends, and family!

composing the various sections in editor # one and then pasting a block at a time into editor # two/template. That line didn't get killed after it was no longer applicable and the bottom is rote and never changes (mostly) and hence is unedited and unreviewed. Thanks for catching that.

I must've spotted it myself when working up 9/13, because it isn't in that one, thanks all the same.

Morning all ...
This just came up a couple weeks ago: Grateful Dead – Long Strange Trip (The Untold Story Of The Grateful Dead)
It's a playlist for a 5-part film about the Grateful Dead's trip to England in 1970.
Rock Scully describes the trip thusly:

"May 24, Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
An outdoor festival with Traffic, Black Sabbath, Mungo Jerry, and Ginger Baker's new group, Airforce. Also a bunch of wankers like Demon Fuzz, Titus Groan, and Screaming Lord Sutch (& Heavy Friends). It's a good opportunity for us - the Dead have never been to Europe - and Sam Cutler, being the old buccaneer that he is, extracts a lot of loot for it. It's essentially a Brit version of Woodstock, and with all the same problems: way too many kids, too few facilities, lots of rain and even more mud. Also, they don't get the fences up in time and there's nobody there to collect tickets (like most of these events in the late sixties and the early seventies). Sunday they give up and make it free. We give 'em "Casey Jones," "Uncle John's Band" and close out with "Lovelight." Take that, ya' Limey fops! "

Here's Part One, at the airport. Part Two has a pretty good interview with Garcia, the actual concert footage sucks. Enjoy.

Good morning enhydra.

Creedence sings for the Working Class. Not just anti-war. the gulf between us and our rulers.

Here's a view of the Cliff's Edge nearer than ever this Labor Day. Facts in no particular order.

Florida, Texas and Georgia all have Union membership at less than 8%. New York's union membership is at 22%.
24% American workers were union organized in 1979.That's 21 Million people.
Last year, 14.2 Million workers were in unions.

Pandemic unimployment benefits are expiring. As of today, 11 million no longer qualify for federal cash. One program that gave aid to self-employed and gig workers, and another which applied to people unemployed for more than 6 months end now.

Also ending today are $300 per week are Federal Supplemental unemployment payments.

The Federal Eviction Mandate has ended. The new NY Governor, Kathy Hochul, has extended the Eviction deadline until 2022. People in this situation are grateful that they can stay in their homes, but unless they are working again and Soon, where will the money for food come from.....

In New York, the Farm Workers bargaining has once again FAILED to change the overtime policy. Overtime kicks in after a 60 hour work week. In other words, Never. Last year Did vote in an UNpaid day of rest, workers comp and unemployment insurance. Some improvement,

Evictions, Federal money to hurting families ends, No much to celebrate today.

— like Zionism, a movement combining bonds-of-blood nationalism and religion, sustained by a belief in having theological-scriptural divine sanction for anything adherents do.

The great secular empire of the West in retreat; armed partisans and their co-religionists facing the task of building a new state from scratch — from a certain angle, is this Afghanistan’s “1948”?

It should go without saying, but inventing a narrative out of thin air simply because it confirms your priors is not going to help rebuild trust in the media.

It would’ve taken a single phone call to shoot this story down.

Why didn’t that happen?

And the same people who purport to be concerned about misinformation and how it spreads on platforms like Twitter will surely be silent on this.

Where’s the gnashing of teeth from the “disinformation” reporters? Where are the Twitter content warnings? Where’s the outrage?

You won’t hear any. Because this is the acceptable type of political lie.

And none of these people or outlets will learn anything. They’ll keep doing this.

Because they care more about scoring cheap dunks on their opponents than getting the truth.

Christa Tibbits interviewing Bela Fleck and his wife Abigail Washburn in a great hour.

We saw the two of them in a week of concerts One which Bela played with the Oregon Symphony on his banjo, and another at the Aladin theatre where Abilgail played her claw hammer style banjo and sung in western folk as well as Chinese Manderin. They were falling in love and were afterwards married and have kids. A great collaboration.

Here is a great song for Labor Day
