Hey Janis!
Just back from a trip to the Catskills...
And now off to give Fred a good tea.

Hi Bollox!
You must have enjoyed the Catskills at this time of the year - so green and refreshing.
Does Fred prefer Earl Grey or English Breakfast ; ).
Cheers you two!

fun fact
Panther Mountain, one of the Catskill High Peaks, is thought to be the site of a meteor landing that occurred 375 million years ago.
Oh my. One wonders who has a memory going back that far?
Perhaps geologists can imagine things that far gone.
I dunno, but is a pretty area.
Drive thru there along the Delaware Water Gap on the way to Michigan.

Friday photography needs you
for both humour and imagination!
Thanks for Friday Photos tonight, Janis.
Love your Foggy Morning shot, Janis. I know I've said this more than once, but I always marvel at how green it is in NZ.

Thank you, QMS
In all my spider face close-ups, they all have six eyes. Not sure about the main/aux set up of the eyes.

When inspecting closely
I see 8 eyes on three levels. What a lot of lenses.

Hi Social
Marvelling at green is my constant companion.
You always bring out the beauty and interest of the insect world. Thank you.
Thank you, Janis.
When you stop to smell the roses, it's fun to look beyond the rose and see what you can find.

This Friday Post
The Friday Photography post has always been one I've looked forward to over the years at Caucus99%. I'm a lurker, been so since the crap at that other site in 2016. But I used to do photography (the old kind, with a dark room!), and I still love it. So... I thought I'd offer a recent photo. This is a Polyphemus moth. It appeared a week ago, on the grass outside the garden at my farm. This was during the heat wave in the PNW. We were sweltering. I'd never seen such a huge moth in 'person' before. It was 5 inches or more wide! She was so beat up, her very short life was ending. But she let me gently pick her up and move her from the grass to a Dianthus in the garden. And she waved her beautiful torn up wings. She died over night, never moved from the spot I'd put her in. I told her I hoped she'd laid many, many eggs, and that they were all fruitful!

Hi Sima
What a beautiful moth and resting place you chose for her. I love that you gave her a perfectly fragrant and colourful place to rest.
I am very happy to know that you enjoy lurking. I thoroughly enjoyed your contribution today of visual and narrative imagery. Thank you.
great pic Sima!

of why she was spent.
Welcome, Sima
Nice shot of the Polyphemus moth. You were not kidding, those are some seriously beat up wings.

Hi all!
Hi Janis! You with those great greens again, never cease to amaze... I love that first pic! Just makes you want to walk right into it. No clue on the veggie though. Thanks for the beautiful, as always!

Hi you!
I love the feeling it animated in you - wanting to walk right into it ; )
clue: Chayote
I think your elevation is not quite suitable to cultivating.
a quick one - gotta fly
I gotta fly but will check back later or in the morn...
Here is a grasshopper of some flavor I never saw before. Shoot first, ask Q's later. With a pic you can usually get an ID. I have a friend that lives in the Huachucas in SE AZ, he has 55 species of grasshoppers on his YARD list. He'll ID it for me.
This is a Buprestid, often called Jewel Beetles. This I think one is genus Dicerca. There are weirdly iridescent in that as you change angle it goes from all that salt and pepper camo, to metallic bronze or gold metal shiny amazing. This was on the car mirror today and if I moved it would have bolted so took the angle in overcast served...
This was sunset on the 5th.
Hope all are doing well, don't let the bastards get to you... be well!

The sunset is really nice too.

Your first photo reminds me of
the German Green party. Foggy and super green.

You wouldn’t want to hear my poorly accented rendition without some sprachcoaching from Peggy … although she seems quite intimidating to me ; ).
I think I find it funniest when the Dutch person speaks it.

Some music I think you'll enjoy ...

When I was in Germany
the Green Party was very strong and true, and clear. When I got to NZ the Greens were also much stronger and clearer than they are now.
Schade
All that greenery gave me a headache, be well, I have to go
thanks for the beautiful song. I gdon't want to be rude. I feel a little bit sick. Let's hope that all shall pass.
All the best to you.

Feel better soon mimi
I long forgot that the colour green could stir up a feeling of sickness, sorry.
no, no, no, it is something else, green is a goody,
thanks for your patience and understanding.

Good morning Janis. I have an excuse this time, radically
intermittent internet. Wonderful picture, as always. The "veggie" (are squash veggies?) is a chayote. I first encountered them at some now long gone restaurant in Hayward, CA where they made it into a dessert (served chilled).
Tons of great photos to yesterday's column, but way behind schedule already, tons going on and needing attention all of a sudden, complicated by cat sitting and heat wave.
be well and have a good one
edit, changed non long gone (what?) into NOW long gone

Hi el
Excuses, excuses, ... ; ) You never need any. Your contribution here and throughout c99 is deeply appreciated. It's supportive, interesting, and lively. I just regret that I don't take time to listen to your music more, because it's always good.
My weekly pleasure never disappoints!
Thanks, y’all, and Rec’d!
