Friday Night Photos - Keep Calm and Carry On edition

Here's Fred, demonstrating how to do it:

Very wet, heavy snow fell today, so I'm going to follow Fred's example and lie down.

Buonasera!

@Bollox Ref because I asked him politely to let me snap a photo, and not die.
Nevertheless, he was letting his woman(women) do their thang, and just resting up for the next fight with the next lion.
I have taken a picture of a male lion upright during the day, but cannot find it.

Looks like Fred has the right idea.

This is a still life I did the other day. The painting was done by my paternal great grandfather in 1893. The house is the original family homestead in Trenton N.J. I've also seen a photo of the house that was taken around the same time as the painting with a notation on the back that said the house was built in 1774.

During the middle ages they celebrated the end of the plague with wine and orgies.
Does anyone know if they have anything like that planned when this one ends?

Lovely stuff SP. Does the house still exist?

Reminds me of recently putting a poor musical manuscript of a song into viable sheet form, from Mrs. B's great-aunt, a concert pianist in the 1900's.

I don't know if the house is still there. When I first saw the photo 6 years ago I asked my brother and sister if they knew if the house was still there. My sister said she had done a little research and thought it might still be there but wasn't sure.

@Socialprogressive awesome story and photo SP! The quality of the artistry is very high IMHO. Yer photo ain't a bad composition either. Wink My wife and I lived in a historic house in the NE-most square mile of NJ, so other end, Rockleigh. Pop. 92, all millionaires, one renter, in this awesome old house. The guy that owned it was old and he was born in it. Washington camped in the field next door. We loved it. Could only see lights of other houses in winter when all the leaves fell, and were 20 minutes from Manhattan. A couple years in the early 80's that seem like a dream now. Those are great old houses in the Garden State, and if you weed through them, some pretty good people there too.

It appears Fred has mastered the zen art of doing nothing. Like only a cat can, and maybe a few lucky people, have. I have long understood lizards in the sun, or my lizard-brain does. Cats really know how to nap, people could learn a thing or two. I love yer sign... Wink

I gotta fly, but here is a pic of one of the Texas state birds at our birdbath. They are real cute until you try to have a garden or flower bed around one.

Nine-banded Armadillo is the proper correct name. 'dillo' is what most call them here.

I saw a poster in town today that had something about a groundhog day event... here??? Where there are no groundhogs??? Kinda wonder if they got something planned with a dillo?

Fun facts about armadillos

Armadillos live anywhere from seven to 20 years.
They give birth once a year, and always to a litter of four males or four females.
Despite popular belief, only two types of armadillos can roll themselves into a ball: the Brazilian armadillo and the southern three-banded armadillo. Both are found in South America.
Armadillos are the only living mammal with a hard shell.
Northwestern University has celebrated its annual Dillo Day since 1972.

@janis b It is a good sized burrow, more than a foot across, and about a foot tall. If you startle one, they might jump about 1.5-2 FEET straight up into the air, and straight back
down, needless to say not much of a glide path on them. Wink A .22 rifle round will mostly just bounce off of their armor, unless just the right place and angle. They eat ants and termites like an anteater or aardvark. Their range has greatly expanded north since about 1960 or so.

but I’ve met him personally, he is one based Hawaiian. Here he touches on many topics, including fearless talk about the scourge of “ice” (meth) and drugs and individual responsibility for choices, even in his own family. If I may indulge in a little hyperbole, his spiritual roots in the earth reach way, way down, like Tūtū Pele’s, to beyond the Mohorovicic discontinuity.
