Don't be fooled. We will survive and end up wherever the wind blows us to.

Don't give up.

Nice plants BR! I used to have a big plant table shelf thing I made, 8' long, multiple levels, amongst the jungle were a dozen different violets. I seem to have lost my green thumb along the way... Fred looks well. No sheet on next Tuesday. I live in rural red Texas, and a friend in L.A. just suggested for some Halloween fun I go get some Biden signs and put them in someone's front yard for giggles. One of the town patriarchs. Let everyone drive by and see that. In a small town (200) it would be funny, if you didn't get shot. My buddy that suggested this used to take his lunch to work in an Uzi case... which is well marked.

What a shocking contrast, but the suggestion of your buddy is also funny, if not recommended in your neck of the woods.

Hi all, hope all are well!

We had a Catbird here for 3 days last weekend. Don't get one every fall, so a treat. They are in the mimic family with Mockingbird and Thrashers. A very cool bird.

@Pricknick Cool pic pricknick! Some females show that color in the throat bright like yours, and others it is not apparent. Red-winged Blackbird is a fine name for the male, but what about the female? Many birds' names suffer that sort of misogyny.

It was the final safari of the trip. No sighting of the elusive leopard so far. The guide, the spotter, the 3 other folks in the jeep didn't see what I saw.
I was treated to a beer back at camp, and the guides all told me, "Spot a male lion during the day time standing, and THEN you are a real spotter!"
I figure I was about 25 feet away from the big cat in hiding.

Just asking because the voice of my then husband mocking some white folks trying to dance like some black folks. I never forgot that, because it sounded 'not nice'.

Anyway, I never tried to dance with 'my black folks of the family'. Just didn't work. But I remember my first days in the US, strolling DC's streets on New Years eve. I remember I thought 'omg, these people have rhythm and can dance so well' and they were mostly white folks. Smile
(This was in the eighties and Krauts really couldn't dance so well. But Krauts are learning)

Now I dance by myself. I am pretending having learned to dance like the black folks, while shaking my bones in the wrong directions. Then my sister just shakes her head and laughs. At least something good about that.
Smile

Ok, let's dance.

Wink

BTW, I have seen black folks who could not dance too, very odd, I wondered about where they grew up.

Be well and healthy and hava a little dance now and then.

@mimi In lines, with cool Masai Mara warriors, lovely women, just everybody.
I grew up dancing with my black friends. They would show me their moves, I would teach them the country and western two step.

Hi Bollox Ref, thanks. Hi all. My mind is 404 not found, 301 moved permanently somewhere else who knows not me.

Yestidday was the beginning of Día de Muertos I think? There was a picture an image in the paper online:
elmilagroofrenda.jpg
El Milagro Ofrenda

The Owl Cafe is an historical landmark around here. When I was young and didn't live here we used to stop there on the way to the river, back when Cloverdale had no public access to it and the 101 went straight through town right past El Milagro. time does not exist Right on.

Barefoot in the dirt downstairs, I transplanted some of the thai basil that still propagates prolifically up on the deck. There is one Evening Primrose left, the mother plant she is seven feet two inches tall:
epseventwo.jpg
Oenothera is an herb.

The seed pods are feeding the goldfinch, they come every day and spread seeds all around. It is turning in to EP land down there. I learned from the wiki this plant is a biennial. Right on.

epgoldfinch.jpg

Also yestidday the dang thing squeezed out a bloom overnight right at the tip top. I thought it was finished weeks ago, but no. Happy Day of the Dead!

The other yellow color is my living ode to Van Gogh's sunflowers painting.

The sunflower paintings had a special significance for Van Gogh: they communicated ‘gratitude’, he wrote. He hung the first two in the room of his friend, the painter Paul Gauguin, who came to live with him for a while in the Yellow House. Gauguin was impressed by the sunflowers, which he thought were ‘completely Vincent’.

I remember in the summer it was a whole row, and I cried because someone chopped its head off? Today it is the only survivor and it is still squeezing out tiny blooms. Right on.

I am not really living but just trying to stay alive in this moment right now. C99ers you are great I love you all. Thanks a lot.

Survival - Bob Marley and the Wailers

[Intro]
(Ow, ow-ow-ow-ow!
Ow, ow-ow-ow-ow!)
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

[Verse 1]
How can you be sitting there
Telling me that you care
That you care
When every time I look around
The people suffer in the suffering
In every way, in everywhere

[Chorus]
Say, na-na-na-na-na (na-na, na-na!)
We're the survivors

Yes, the Black survivors

[Verse 2]
I tell you what, some people got everything
Some people got nothing
Some people got hopes and dreams
Some people got ways and means

[Chorus]

Like Daniel out of the lions' den
(Black survivors) Survivors, survivors

[Verse 3]
So I Idren, I sistren
Which way will we choose
We better hurry, oh, hurry, oh, hurry, whoa, now
Because we got no time to lose

[Verse 4]
Some people got facts and claims
Some people got pride and shame
Some people got the plots and schemes
Some people got no aim it seems

[Chorus]

[Verse 5]
Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
(Black survivors)
Thrown in the fire, but-a never get burn

So I Idren, I-sistren
The preaching and talking is done
We've gotta live up, wo now, wo now!
Because the Father's time has come

Some people put the best outside
Some people keep the best inside
Some people can't stand up strong
Some people won't wait for long

[Chorus]

[Verse 6]
In this age of technological inhumanity (Black survival)
Scientific atrocity (survivors)
Atomic mis-philosophy (Black survival)
Nuclear mis-energy (survivors)
It's a world that forces lifelong insecurity (Black survival)
All together now

[Chorus]

[Outro]
A good man is never honoured (survivors)
In his own country (Black survival)
Nothing change, nothing strange (survivors)
Nothing change, nothing strange (Black survivors)
We got to survive, you all! (survivors)

Well. I thought it was just me! I can't see Fred either, Janis.

For me, turns out it's a browser issue. I'm using a Chrome-based browser, Vivaldi on my old Mac. Everything is up to date. I shut down Vivaldi and opened the site in Firefox, and there's Fred!

So perhaps try another browser. I suspect the problem isn't your location.
