Only two things have me torqued today. The trumpet fools trying to take over
Venezuela is just wrong on several accounts. My hope is it is a complete failure.
The second one is the EU trying to steal Russian assets. It now appears that is
a non-starter. Illegal and fairly consequential - as in dangerous. They have already
stolen the interest and made it disappear into the totally corrupt Ukraine regime.
The destruction of European economies on her watch is pretty blatant.
Von dar lying needs to just go away. Maybe join Vlad Zel in retreat?

A lot of Americans have Native American blood in them. I know I do. A sprinkling of Cherokee as my late mother was born in OK. Their collective histories are fascinating. The Northeast tribes (Mohawk, etc.) actually had a loose confederation called the Seven Nations. This was back before the Europeans came over and raised havoc. If you ever get a chance, QMS, look up some of their history. As far as current events today, I keep my distance and seriously limit my media exposure. I stay healthier and saner that way.

Courtesy of ancestry.com, I was amazed to find out that I didn't have any. Zero. Our family's carefully-embroidered and much-celebrated verbal history as being part-Cherokee was revealed to be a complete fabrication by a single email...
I suspect that there are many others like me who thought that they had that genetic connection, and are finding out that they didn't. It certainly knocked me for a loop.

My paternal Grandmother
who lived her whole life in the same cabin in West Virginia's Appalachian mountains told me she was half Cherokee. And she had all the features of Indian heritage, which followed in my Father.
My Ancestry.com readout showed no Indian blood also, which causes me to question the accuracy of its results.
I do recall a note that came with it that only large DNA "patches" were observable. They did offer more expensive tests that were more discerning.
You could still have Indian blood, but highly diluted.
A defining characteristic of Native American blood is the love of Mother Earth.
If you have that, run with it and call it good.

This can be a very painful topic.
My experience follows, and please note that this only applies to me. This is not intended to cast aspersions on anyone else's family history...
My maternal grandfather was widely believed to be a full-blooded Cherokee: he was a retired Marine who enlisted on Dec 8th at age 38, and got himself well and truly shot up on Guam. He regaled us all with stories of his Indian heritage, and even taught me a few words of Cherokee, lots of lore, and how to noodle for fish and witch wells, among other things. And to her dying day my mother believed every word of it, she of the high cheekbones and straight black hair.
Unfortunately, both his mother and his father turn out to have been very, *very* Irish. There were no recorded intermarriages with anyone of Native American extraction, right back to the arrival of both his maternal and paternal lines in the New World. And having done the genealogical research to confirm this, I then got to break the news to the remaining folks in the family. It did not go over well- but they have now repeated the work, and understand that they were gaslit for their whole lives, just as I had been.
A friend who is a professor of US History specializing in the Civil War and Reconstruction, at one of our colleges here in CO, tells me that this fabrication was actually a very common thing in the reconstruction South where I grew up- my original home was one of 3 houses in my town that weren't burned by Sherman's troops on his march to the sea. As he tells it, many folks came to claim Cherokee ancestry simply to avoid being called racists. So for all I know, he himself might have been gaslit as well- nobody alive today ever met *his* parents.
That hurt. I suppose that a real giveaway should have been that my graddad was also a muckey-muck in the local Klan, which was a real force in that area that had been so totally ravaged at the end of the war. Since those folks are known to hate *everybody*, an actual in-the-flesh native American should have received a certain amount of pushback as they rose through the ranks. But then, so would somebody who was mostly of Irish extraction. So there are many mysteries here, none of which will ever be resolved at this point. That is a compost pile in which I do not care to further dig.
However, I can still witch wells- so I suppose that that makes it all better. (;-) Your mileage will almost certainly vary...

on the Sun, despite the cloud cover and snow here (we're supposed to get another 3" today).
The big sunspot system (4294/4296) that gave us the auroral display 2 weeks ago has come back around to face Earth as the Sun rotates, and has grown in the interim. It is now comparable to the sunspot system that gave us the Carrington event in 1859. We'll almost certainly get some X-class flares from it, although hopefully not as energetic as the X45 Carrington event itself. But there are geomagnetic storms and maybe even some more auroras in the offing. Check out http://spaceweather.com for more info...

Good morning...
It's chilly here too.
We do live deep in the woods. I love the seasonal changes. Most of the trees have shed their leaves now. A week or so ago the beach leaves transitioned from green to yellow, and now have the copper color until next spring when their leaves will fall.
We had a nice rain yesterday, and the cloud cover is still hanging around creating another gray day.

The big difference between Venezuela and Ukraine
is that with Ukraine you have a large super power that wants to steal the country next door and has done similar with accompanying atrocities for more than 50 years.
Where as with Venezuela you have a large super power named the United States trying to impose it's will on a neighbor.
The dictator Putin is personally responsible for hundreds of thousands dead, hundreds of thousands more disabled, kidnapping thousands of children, and Trump is responsible for killing ten or twenty people in some boats.

that can even mean today. Not all planned economies are communist, and not all of them are technically authoritarian either. BTW, I find that the Rus have seized exactly zero countries since 1975 and intend to seize zero countries, though some breakway states that seceded from Ukraine after its coup de etat have both asked to join the Russian confederation and have been allowed to do so.
