Executioners at the police station

Deputy Who Shot Gardena Teen Was “Chasing Ink”

The deputy who shot and killed 18-year-old Andres Guardado outside a car shop in Gardena was a prospective member of a violent clique inside the Compton Sheriff’s station, according to the sworn testimony of a whistleblower.

More than a dozen deputies have matching tattoos and belong to a violent clique called the Executioners at the station, according to Deputy Art Gonzalez, who filed a whistleblower complaint regarding the Executioners in June.

“I now call them a gang because that’s what gangs do – they beat up other people,” Gonzalez said.

The deputies in the lawsuit are accused of “chasing ink” – slang for trying to impress the Executioners to join their group.

“There are parties after shootings. They call them ‘998 parties.’ Some people say it’s to celebrate the deputy is alive. Others say it’s to celebrate that they’re going to be ‘inking’ somebody.”

Gonzalez, testifying for nearly six hours under oath, said the existence of the clique was “common knowledge” at the station and that the gang’s so-called shot caller controlled the work schedule and their actions boosted arrest numbers.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva:

“We’re trying to build bridges, not tear them down, and I don’t think we’re going to achieve that with press conferences,” Villanueva said.

The sheriff said his department is investigating the claims and has already relieved two deputies of duty and transferred six others.

When you say whistleblowers, know these are people that are suing and when they’re suing…you have to make the allegations as big as possible. That’s just part of the lawsuit process,” Villanueva said. “When you go to the actual hard facts and try to prove them, it’s a whole different animal.”

Attorney John Sweeney:

“I am quite tired of going to funerals, sitting in living rooms..telling young kids their father is not coming back,” Sweeney said. “Families feel horrible. It’s something that has to stop. Society has reached an inflection point.”

I appreciate and applaud every person who has been protesting against the murderous actions too many cops in this country commits. Many of them are literally risking bodily harm as well as big fines and arrest to send government the message that they have had enough and things have got to change.

@The Liberal Moonbat that's what I think "inflection point" means in the context of now. "If we don't get it, burn it." does not resonate with me out here in Killifornia, but it's just another way of saying "that's it we've had it. NO MORE KILLER COPS. PEOPLE BEFORE PROPERTY". I do believe we could be shedding our racist past, but it's probably all a big show. Dog days of summer.

Small business owners complaining about getting their shit wrecked are not ever going to be fully recompensed by the systems their propping up. The banks and insurance companies have made it impossible for the little guys it seems. Punch higher, that's my advice.

No more murderous cops. Imagine that. Good luck.

@eyo First of all, who's "our"? We do it a lot, but we should try being more judicious in our use of the first-person-plural (“Where all are guilty, no one is; confessions of collective guilt are the best possible safeguard against the discovery of culprits, and the very magnitude of the crime the best excuse for doing nothing.” - Hannah Arendt).

Aside from that detail, what worries me about the past several years is that America was and had been in the process of gradually but successfully shedding its racist past for decades, only to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory since circa 2014.

@Bisbonian Denying the existence of the good is every bit as bad - worse, in fact - as denying the existence of the bad.

The world is not, never has been, and never will be monolithic; they're trying to annihilate all but one narrative. It's like Constantine/Nicaea all over again - and this lifelong polytheist-sympathizer could hardly be more appalled.

My old Mac has a built-in dictionary. It contains the term "inflection point." Here's what it states:

inflection point
noun
1 (also point of inflection) Mathematics a point of a curve at which a change in the direction of curvature occurs.
2 chiefly US (in business) a time of significant change in a situation; a turning point.

Pretty sure attorney Sweeney was referring to "... a time of significant change in a situation; a turning point." I hope he's right.

I think every cop should have to reapply for their job and be interviewed by a citizen panel before being rehired. We've brought the empire home to oppress our own folks.

Here is the headline and opening snippet

We Don’t Know How to Warn You Any Harder. America is Dying.
We Survivors of Authoritarianism Have a Message America Needs to Hear: This is Exactly How it Happens, and It’s Happening Here.

Right about now, something terrible is happening in America. Society is one tiny step away from the final collapse of democracy, at the hands of a true authoritarian, and his fanatics. Meanwhile, America’s silent majority is still slumbering at the depth and gravity of the threat.

I know that strikes many of you as somehow wrong. So let me challenge you for a moment. How much experience do you really have with authoritarianism? Any? If you’re a “real” American, you have precisely none.

Take it from us survivors and scholars of authoritarianism. This is exactly how it happens. The situation could not — could not — be any worse. The odds are now very much against American democracy surviving.

If you don’t believe me, ask a friend. I invite everyone who’s lived under authoritarianism to comment. Those of us how have?

"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews

Heard from Margaret Kimberley

@ggersh A few months ago HBO did a mini-series of Philip Roths's book The Plot Against America. Roth wrote his book in 2004 and it applies in a terrifying manner to what's happening today.

The Plot Against America describes an alternate reality where FDR is opposed for his fourth term by Charles Lindberg the real life aviator and Nazi. Lindberg calls his campaign, "America First." He wins. The parallels to today are unmistakable.

Lindberg's alliance with Right Wing Jews in much the same way as we see Trump and the RW today, is frightening and effective.

We follow the story through a middleclass family in New Jersey modeled on Roth's upbringing. Morgan Spector plays the Dad and is a left-leaning engaged Democrat. One of his sons is named Philip. Maybe Roth wants us to know that this was his vision, not just a story.

If you have HBO you may be able to watch this horror movie On Demand.

is on Trump when really this has been going on long before. The wisdom of giving the presidency imperial powers was questioned many times before but the problem was allowed to grow. Trump is a monster TPTB (The Powers That Be) created, just as with Hitler and Mussolini. But now, as then, that monster is flexing the muscles they gave it and we are descending into the Hell they created.

Even if Biden were able to get both the popular and Electoral College votes, would Trump’s mob allow him to take office? The Democrats have overplayed their hand, I fear. TPTB have once again backed madman. It is the 99% who will suffer.

@Lily O Lady Beware not the fascists, but the proto-fascists; by the time a buffoon like Trump shows up, it's already too late.

People should have been talking this way about Bush; the fact that those of us who did were bullied and marginalized is why we have this nightmare now (possibly in part, I have learned, because people had sadly "learned" from the late-'80s/early-'90s, which were apparently a prelude to today's "cancel culture" in some circles, to resist ANY hysterical, arbitrary calls of "fascism" - hence "Godwin's Law" which I long saw as an infuriating impediment but now am sorely missing; all the more reason we should all despise and oppose "political correctness").

no longer need the D's to run the country. It's happening already?

Proof?
