That second one looks like a shot from a telescope of a far off planet with a snail shaped moon circling it.

The first is a day blooming cereus. The flower lasted almost all week. We had several night blooming cereus in the US. My wife had no idea which this one was until it opened last weekend then kept coming back.
The second is a cactus flower. It will be fuller and open more tomorrow when, if, it is warmer and sunny as forecast. Today was chilly with frequent showers which is not the best day for a cactus flower to fully open.
Sorry. I still haven't resolved my 90 degree counterclockwise rotation issue.

The flower mostly closes in the evening and reopens the next morning. It's been doing that since at least last weekend. We have a lovely sunny morning and sadly both flowers are done. There are a couple more bloom buds so we should have more flowers eventually. The night bloomer gets one night and is essentially done. We've had a few last two nights but the second night flower doesn't seem to really have its heart into it. Until we had two cold (7-9 C) night with showers and mist, no sun during the day, each day's flower was only slightly less bright and full. When they're done it's sudden like for its night time cousin.
The cactus flower doesn't have full sun on it yet so it's closed. Another hour or two and it will be out of the shadows of the tall eucalyptus trees in the vacant lot next to us.

I drove myself nuts trying to find a way to post them upright and after I did an edit I saw that they did. It doesn't have to be a large edit. Just a thin wafer size will do it or just a tad. Just enuf to change whatever needs to be changed.

Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.

The first one is by a friend, the cousin of the builder of our house, at Pico de Pescado showing Cuenca. It's about 900 meters (1000-1050 meters above city center) above the intersection of our road and the highway. It's a pretty good mountain bike ride. I sent it to a friend who is a few years younger than me. He's been a mostly road bike rider for most of his life. He's come up to the house a few times which is only about 150' above the highway. His comment: "Are you trying to kill me?" It's possible to drive to within a 45-60 minute hike. You can find the location on Google Maps with a search of - Pico de Pescado, Cuenca, Ecuador. We've hiked some of this mountain but nothing that high. Our favorites for plants and wildlife outings are Laguna Llaviucu and Tres Cruces in the Cajas National Park.
The second is a violet earred sylph on one of our small feeders hanging from a young silver dollar eucalyptus. I have no idea how long my wife sat there trying to get a good video. I have a game camera but its motion sensor is not sensitive enough to be triggered by a hummingbird. The sylphs have become the dominant species on our feeders. Being the middle of "winter" the number of birds has thinned considerably but I still go through about a cup of nectar a day. A couple months ago it was 3+.We've identified 8 varieties so far with train bearers and the tiny purple throated wood star also commonly seen. The wood stars are my favorite. A young male and three females were here but lately I've not seen more than one female at a time. The male is always around the feeder on our back terrace facing the city. We occasionally have metal tails too.
