The Daily Kos Exodus has begun

Holy crap! OPOL banned at Kos. I obtained this website from a comment link in a thread from DK just a few hours ago. So I flew around, and like Birdie, I have landed in a friendlier place. Does Kos know WTF damage he is doing to his empire. He is about to find out very quickly. I predicted climate change coming to the Kos Pond after the ides of March edict. Lo, and it has come to pass. The icebergs have arrived. Us Alligators do not like cold water. I am probably not going to be venturing back there very much if at all. Also, the spell checker seems more benign here and you know it's tough to type with claws anyway. So this is my vacation or pre-eviction from the Kos Pond--I'll send him a goodbye note. It was fun.

I think OPOL is just on a time-out. Greywolfe got unbanned, so I don't think the craziness will be permanent. We've done this many times before.

Welcome though. It's nice to be somewhere that respects free speech.

In the past people got banned or timed out for some kind of misbehavior, in my experience. OPOL, Greywolfe, and Tasini all got punished for being good writers and supporting Bernie.

I don't need Kos. He doesn't pay me a salary, and I'll be damned if I am going to support him and his website after these episodes.

The other question is why would a small businessman drive away a substantial portion of his existing customer base? Small business is tough. One doesn't ordinarily take actions sure to cut revenue. Why was calling the primary race over prematurely so important to him? There will be plenty of time later to campaign for the GE. What was in it for him for doing this? He get any "grants" from the Clinton Foundation? ($180 million in assets)

The only reason to change what you're doing when it's working for you is because something else will work even better. Daily Kos with all its pro-Bern supporters was big enough to make a dent in Hill's numbers. So buy off Kos. Easier than buying off all the rest of us. Of course I can't ask this question over at the GOS.

This is not my usual snarky jive talk. I'm just fucking angry at all this rationalization shit about that cesspit.

"We've done this many times before." (And I'm not picking on you, dervish, so don't take this personally, please.)

Do you have any idea what that sounds like? This what I hear.

"After the stitches come out, I'll be able to fix dinner again without wincing."

"Pretty soon I won't have to wear sunglasses to hide the black eye."

"He was drunk. He really didn't mean it."

"Once he's sober again, I can go back and get slammed around some more."

I think this shit is called "enabling" and at some point it has to stop.

"If Bernie wins, I'll write..."

Fuck that shit too.

The Hillbots are ideologues of the status quo. They're incapable of progressive thinking because the preponderance of humanity is incapable of stepping out of their comfort zone. They're Right Wing Democrats. Whether they're paid or not in immaterial. The place is losing audience because they're painting themselves further and further into that corner. Anyone who still writes there just gives justification for the "See? We're a big tent here." bullshit, (if you mind your Ps and Qs.) And anyone who continues to write there just makes it easier to for them to say that.

"Yes, but I'm the lone voice of reason in the maelstrom of ..."

You're a fart in a whirlwind. And whirlwinds are highly destructive to the farters, physically and emotionally.

Anyone seriously think the attack dogs are all suddenly going to go all Kumbaya for Bernie? Christ!

OPOL gets banned?

OPOL should never go back. Period. Ever. No GBCW. Nothing.

People who go there should wake up one day, and every day thereafter and say to themselves, "OPOL [to add to the long list] got the chop too? What's the point of wasting my time here?"

And I'm deadly serious on this one.

My mother enabled an abusive drunk for a long time; far too long. He used to break up the furniture. Jesus, that man could drink. He was my step-father and also my boss. So one night we finished two bottles of VSOP and I told him, "You break up the furniture all you want. You lay one finger on my mom and I'll blow your brains out." This had more meaning in my household because my previous step-father actually had blown his brains out upstairs a couple of years earlier. I also told him, "I'll probably get seven years, but you, motherfucker, will be dead. So give that some thought. And Good Night." and finally went to bed.

Mom was cool too.

Mom was a ball buster. How she managed to not get her clock cleaned on numerous occasions is still puzzling sociologists to this day.

I was living at "home", the distinction being whenever I got tossed out of an apartment, I come back and crash with mom 'til I could put together another pad. At the time I'd been working for a carpenter friend of hers, and she'd invited him over for dinner. Then in the middle of dinner, Mom blurts out, "I was cleaning up in your room today and I found some hypodermic needles. Are you shooting speed?"

The boss kind of looked from his meatloaf, looked first at her, then at me.

So I said, "Oh no, Mom, don't worry. I'm shooting acid." and we went back to the meatloaf.

I'd been working at home for a few years as a silversmith/goldsmith at our little mom-and-pop business when I got a call to come back to work as a surveyor for a high-rise going up in Jersey City. I don't remember precisely why I accepted but I did. The boss was once again the self-same step-dad mentioned earlier. He'd mellowed a lot over the years and we had an amicable relationship after I'd laid down the house rules oh so long ago.

He wasn't the problem I'll describe. The Ironworker Raising Gang foreman was the problem. He was the brutish type that makes a lot of bullying sexual innuendo "jokes". You know the type, dick-bragging, and so forth. The bully part of his nature was that he micro-managed every aspect of the job... when he could.

Now, since I'd been at home for so long, I'd let my hair grow and it was halfway down my back. It was summer and hot as hell so I'd gather my hair in a ponytail. But any asshole can have a ponytail, right? I got She-Who-Puts-With-Me to do mine in a French braid.

It didn't take him too long to start calling me "Homo", "Hey, Homo, blah, blah, blah." "Hey, Homo this..." Hey Homo that..."

So I started leaving my fly unzipped. And naturally, being a micro-managing bully, he fell for the bait. So, he eventually said, "Hey Homo, your fly's unzipped." And in front of the entire gang, I came back with, "You know, Joe, you're not supposed to be looking down there." whereupon the entire gang started laughing their asses off.

He also liked to brag about his dick. "You ever seen a baby's arm holding an apple?"

"Yea, Joe, when I was a kid. You ever seen a gorilla's arm holding a cantaloupe?"

That pretty much put a stop to the "Homo" shit.

Ages ago I said I will not, could not vote for Hillary because I refuse to (once again) vote "for" the lesser of two evils because that's still voting for evil..., and that she's a lying warmongering DINO, and that's still a fact of life, so that stays as my #1 reason not to vote for her. True, all the other reasons everyone lists also fall into my column of "No, of course I'm not voting for her!"

I dislike repeating myself.

completely. It's time for us to begin taking real action. Part of that means leaving center-right platforms like Dailykos. Part of it means creating alternative platforms like this one. The biggest part of it, however, lies in taking back the party from these apologists for the oligarchy. Somehow we need to work on reforming the primary system so we don't see this sort of corporate theft again in the future.

The lack of reality won't fly - nor will selling The Donald to Dems by putting him on the front page every day.

The oddest part of that is when kos said "criticism" would only be okay if it helped make his fatally flawed favorite "a better candidate." Huh? One can't do that for the simple reason she is what she is, her rhetoric now consists of plagiarizing Bernie's stump speech, and it sounds hollow coming out of her mouth because we all know she's lying.

Why not just support the better candidate from the get-go and work to get Bernie elected?

It makes no sense..., unless kos has been bribed with money to support Hillary, starting several months (a year?) ago when he said Hillary would be the Dem candidate, and that was that, so get used to the idea.

Okay. Well, whatever. It's his web site, so he's entitled to call the shots. I'll check in to Rec the few (VERY few) writers I like who are still there, but other than that... Yaaaawwwn....

FWIW:
About a year ago, Silly Rabbit (trix) posted a report from the NYT (I think) about Markos desiring to run for Congress. This was about the same time Markos boycotted the Arizona Netroots Nation. Simultaneously, Markos asked the Dems to move their convention form Arizona. I guess he felt sufficiently accepted by the Dem establishment to feel he had a right to state his preference.
If he really does want to seek elective office as a democrat, that explains why he wishes to remain in 'good standing' with the dem establishment.

"More and better Dems" loses its meaning when the site's owner demands "Just the One Dem" even if she's a lying warmongering DINO, all others be damned, and then exiles anyone who does not conform to that arbitrary standard, and/or anyone who tells the truth about her, even if/when it's unpleasant.

Markos has swallowed the Turd Way kool-aid by the hectare-kilometer and thinks that he's being a good Dem because of that. He's not old enough to remember the last time America's private-sector civilian economy actually worked properly. He thinks that the way things are now is optimum. Therefore, he thinks that $Hillary is the best possible Democratic Presidential candidate.

And we already know that it's impossible to get facts into that steel-armored bubble of his over there......

Hillary Clinton is a defacto Republican. So is Markos Moulitsas. We need to face up to that fact -- because they never will!

$Hillary IS a defacto Repub. This is why I have said many times that she's a lying, warmongering DINO. The most polite thing one could say about Markos is that he's a "conservative Democrat" - whatever that might mean - but he's turned back into a flaming Rethuglican. As of right now, I'll only give him credit for the scathing FP article immediately after Obama voted for FISA '08. It almost melted my laptop screen - and I did agree with him at that moment in time. [Where did that Markos go?]

I see NO difference between electing $Hillary and electing a Rethug. If she were elected she'd nominate conservative SCOTUS justices, and anyone who has not figured that out is in major denial (and I don't mean the river in Egypt), ergo the "but, but, but - it's the Supreme Court, Stupid" does not scare me into voting "for" her any more than the idiotic "it's time for a woman president." Of course it's time for a woman president..., just NOT $Hillary!!! I don't vote with my vagina, and I put issues before gender.

Electing Bernie - whose positions all favor We the People - should be as easy as a duck takes to water. "Some people" are just plainly lacking common sense if they can't understand that.

and each time he purges the more creative writers from the site. Getting booted from the GOS is practically a badge of honor if you want to write about American politics. Not that I ever really tried counting, but I really have lost count of the passionate, progressive writers who have left/been kicked out over the years. Many, many more took the route of checking in and reading once in a while but no longer make any effort to contribute anything worthwhile to the site. Why bother when you know he's just going to shit all over you if you ever get any traction?

So he's left with people like Lawrence Lewis and Trix and many other obvious paid Hillary staffers disrupting anything positive about Bernie and repeating ad nauseam Hillary's current talking points re. the current scandals. I guess that's the way he wants it, it's not like he didn't have the option of being a voice for the people instead of a tool for the 0.01% to monitor the peasants for signs of unrest.

So, you knew it was a purge, could you ever doubt it? It is a classic purity message purge.

We have been driven underground. I can't access this site from my job (wups) because it's too small. We have been physicaly marginalized in cyber space.

The message from the GOS will be pure, one of harmony, of contrite and conciliatory Sanders supporters and condescending Hillary supporters, reminding them of how horrible they were, how sexist, how mean! That will be the face that kos will engineer and steer as this farce, this potemkin village of a primary goes on.

There are laughs, and there are truths, and being in possession of some basic truths - some of which I had read in Markos' book - I do not need to betray, but as this primary takes shape, I realize that Hillary has lost one or two of her moorings, and is casting about in a tempest. It's almost hard to watch, even as you brace yourself to accept the possibility that Bernie will not be elected, and resolve to continue the good fight in the best, most straightforward possible, you witness deceit and also paranoia, and you are somewhat recoiling at the specatacle.

But knowing,l as OPOL does that two different futures for America hang in the balance, you get passionate about this.

Markos will allow his little Potemkin Village lose the spirit it once had in order to display and test the power of his little empire. This is a purge, no doubt.

You'll see familiar names here I'm sure, and that's always helpful in these kinds of transitions.

I've just finished deleting all my diaries from the DK servers. I deliberately didn't count them, so I don't know how many I wrote. I haven't and won't GBCW until I'm ready to do it like Petronius, either on 6/8 or 11/9 --but I'm going to log off and stay away after I communicate with MB privately. I just wonder if that should be legal. You write a diary for a blog for free. It's the blog owner who makes money of the fact that writers offer their product for free. For an owner to own your diaries for eternity, is imo an impossible "business plan". I hope one day there will be laws that allow any writer, who offers content for free on a blog, to erase his content from that blog. Also any person who opens an account on a blog should have the write to close his account for good and with ease. Once you don't get paid for writing on a blog, the content you write should remain under the control of the writer, not the blog owner. I even think the same should be true for comments.

So far people think I am a dummy and don't understand the "rules". I understand those rules, just I consider those rules so bad that I will always argue against them.

Or am I missing something? I want to be able to comment and write longer pieces if I feel like it. Not just read a blog like it's a newspaper. Surely that's why most people are there.

They're doing a lot of work for us to be here. Remember, we're not asking for free stuff. Let's keep the site going by forking over some cash.

As I was reading all the essays about OPOL and how awful TOP is, I thought - I need to give to c99 again to keep them whole. I'm loving this site. I love that all the people I treasure are here. I'm doing my part to keep it going. I sound like HRC with all the I,I,I,I,I,..............LOL!

I was already thoroughly disgusted by the mishandling of the Phoenix Woman stinkbomb Bomb (she should have been banned as soon as it was clear that she was deliberately spreading a vicious libel - which was within hours!). Then Kos laid his first rotten egg, I mean edict, and I learned there were other places I could go.

So I went.

Won't say I haven't peeked from time to time, but it's been less and less - and now hardly ever.

Selfishly I love it that all the kossacks I liked and respected seem to have vacated kos' room and many have migrated to this site. now I'm not tempted to go back and comment or read my favorites. Every once in while these days I do go look at what the authoritarian brainwashed idiots are up to but I too go back less and less. Hope kos gent's the 'demographics' he's after but something tells me that his grasp on the reality of what's happening is so skewed and nasty dkos going to become irrelevant.

My enthusiasm for DK went through the floor when Markos made set his Ides of March Ultimatum and so did my posting and commenting. Funny I had lurked there for a decade, finally decided to join and contribute and then WHAM! Bernites were told to tone it down!

Isn't it ironic that Markos "premessaged" the #ToneItDown way before Hillary's campaign manager did it.

I'm wondering if HRC's campaign got their "tone it down" meme from Markos.

He knew the FBI investigation was simmering just under the surface, about to break open, and had to get out in front of stopping it from damaging Hillary without saying that's the real reason. So we get a lot of rhetoric and theatrics a couple weeks ahead of it starting to break into the news.

I have been a Kos user for over a decade.... I have left there before and all because the Great and Powerful Kos had spoken some bullshit. It is "his" site. But the community is what that site was all about.

I'm done there. I've protested Clinton several times and for many reasons, mostly because me and my family are anti-war and anti-poverty... and because we really try to walk our talk.

I'll schwag out my account here and get my ruby lips picture somehow uploaded.

During the exodus, I've been going through some hellish times personally - but I am eager and ready to work for Sanders and all of Us. Finally a candidate that I can't vote and work FOR...

Now... where's that drink? Biggrin
