So if we are to believe the WaPo reporting mentioned in Krystal's podcast, Bernie's inner circle is now urging him to drop out. Are we to believe that Bernie's inner circle is composed of this type of idiot? None of those people are going to have any positions in any imaginary Biden government which will never exist, nor will they have any positions in any future government absent some dramatic spread of COVID-19 that wipes out most of Congress. And then there were the pseudo-Presidential candidates, all twenty-plus of which (outside of Marianne Williamson, goddess bless her!) were there to fool the rest of us until around Super Tuesday when they all dropped out as if they were remote-controlled robots, all to endorse Joe Biden, all the way down to Tulsi Gabbard and Elizabeth Warren.
Krystal Ball is right about Bernie, too. If he drops out he's going to get nothing. Which is funny because the Dems are also going to get nothing when Trump wins in November. And let's look at their strategy against Bernie. Their strategy against Bernie is to tell Bernie that everyone in the party is against him, so he needs to follow up upon his promises to support the eventual nominee, which isn't going to be him. Meanwhile, let's have a primary during COVID-19 season, as the Navy fires a captain who warned them about their coronavirus problem and as New York participates in bidding wars (basically government-sponsored sacred free market tactics) to see how many lives it can save.
Right now I am envious of the nice people of the UK. Their leader, Boris Johnson, is in the ICU after having denied the seriousness of the coronavirus problem. Lucky Brits! They get their comeuppance served on a platter and probably pretty soon. Here in the US it's impossible to say when peak stupidity will arrive. The leadership strategy is definitely not flattening the curve on the stupidovirus.

For the classical Greeks the "idiot" was a mere private person, one who did not participate in the life of the agora. The idiots we're discussing today are making private decisions -- calculated career advancement decisions, how we deal with Navy captains is a private matter for the Navy, medical equipment is our private property, and so on. The link was to, I think, The New York Times and in a few seconds the paywall covered it, so I don't know if the headline was accurate and since it was the NYT, no assurance that the story was true.

Whether chain of command breeches are worth firing for or whether the lives of thousands of sailors warrants mitigation is beyond my knowledge of the Military Code of Justice. But, the public humiliation of Capt Crozier was out of line no matter what the mil regs say. Mobly is a tool, a bureaucratic careerist who probably never saw combat.

(not the NYTimes that locks most articles) to that in an update to my essay. Also added the latest that is an apology from Modly for trashing Crozier. Of course at this point Trump is getting a bit of a free ride even though Modly and other senior naval officers have admitted that Trump ordered the firing against the advice of those senior naval officers. Trump also publicly praised Modly for firing Crozier, but he has now left Modly on the hot seat while Trump comments that maybe a rethink is appropriate.
