Kos's Daily Attack on Bernie's Campaign

Kos is engaged and is going to try to win back his blog! Yes, for the second time in two days, he has a post about Devine and the super delegates. The purpose is to convince people Bernie has no chance to win.

That has been his theme since early March, but now he is accelerating it.

Every day, people will be bombarded with these messages. Surrender Dorothy, you have no chance.

The aim is to cut off donations and votes for Bernie.

I doubt it it will have much impact. Those for Bernie are not quitting. He can preach to Hillary supporters.

Glad this place exists. It is going to get bad there. Expect more refugees.
No doubt there will be counter posts there. The whole world is outside of that blog.

Update: I wrote a post there. If you still go back, I'd appreciate a rec.

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/3/29/1507568/-Respond-to-Kos-by-Don...

Here's what I said:

It what appears to be a Daily Theme, Kos has another post about Tad Devine and super delegates. Don’t be distracted.

Rather than all the yelling and fighting, I propose donations to Bernie. Don’t get all caught up in flame wars. What matters is helping Bernie win as many delegates as he can.

As TOS accelerates toward irrelevancy (as has Washington Post and MSNBC) we will see the Fox News factor become more pronounced among those who continue to frequent TOS. That is, Kos readers will become increasingly ignorant of facts as they engorge themselves on HRC spin. Another upshot is that Her Hillaryness' supporters are all over 40 years of age. Thus, Kos is dooming his site to the geriatric ward

Not much room there for blue collar families like mine, or the ones Bernie is trying to reach, or for the young folks trying to figure out how the hell they're going to pay off their college loans and maybe eventually buy a house so they aren't hit with rent increases every year.

So maybe that's why I pissed so many of those idiots off; They couldn't accuse me of wanting "free stuff", and they couldn't patronize me for being young, female, or an "uppity" minority. Blum 3

We need to accept that the existence of Dkos is a net negative with regard to making the US more progressive. As I keep saying, its function is to dilute and dissipate progressive thought before it gets out into the mainstream.

Therefore we should aim for the ending of Dkos

Giving Kos pageviews doesn't really matter - they are very much a lagging indicator. Providing him with free content is idiotic IMHO. If no Sanders supporters/progressives posted the site would completely turn in on itself, shrivel and die. In other words reading stuff their does no harm - contributing stuff does.

Posting there persuades no one of anything -that is a feature not a bug. It just makes Kos richer.

I may have overstated things (wouldn't be the first time) and everyone is of course entitled to act as they see fit.

whether Kos makes money or not - but I do care passionately about the future of the progressive movement - as you do. If I didn't see his operation as damaging to the left I wouldn't give him a passing thought.

On a related note: In the UK just after the war a newspaper called The Daily Mirror came into being. It had a left wing slant designed to appeal to the working class. Its purpose though was not to strengthen the working class but to weaken them by giving the illusion that their voices were being heard. It was created to do the exact opposite of what it claimed - to act as a safety valve, to stop dissent from the left hardening into action.

to believe that ending Dkos has any impact on anything. I believe dailykos is a sharade. There are too many valuable writers over there, who will not stop writing on that platform. Therefore I am rather glad that a couple of foot soldiers doing their work over there to slap the owner once n a while over his mouth wrist. If dailykos should die or end, then it's more because it's starting to be boring. The valuable diaries are drowning in the big sink of dirty water. People might get tired to go there and searching for them. Actually it's a shame how many valuable diaries or collection of articles have to compete against the mass of stuff of babbling folks.

I made a point of reading the Kospedia before I signed up (13 years ago, iirc). I remember wanting to be sure about maintaining copyright to anything I might write -- I had seen other sites claim ownership, and that would have been a deal-killer for me. So that tells me that I would have made sure that the site didn't claim ownership before signing up.

Of course, that's an old memory now. So it would be best if someone checked the Kospedia to make sure.

The way I remember it being explained was: You retain ownership of your diaries (and so can delete them), but your comments are too important to the discussions so they can't be deleted. (Hmmm. Don't remember for sure what it said about ownership of comments or messages, or if that was even specified.)

Hmmm. May have to look into that.

As an aside,

Clinton adopted the manifesto, "A New Agenda for the New Decade."

Balance America’s Commitments to the Young and the Old--an ever-growing share of the federal budget today consists of automatic transfers from working Americans to retirees.

Moreover, the costs of the big entitlements for the elderly--Social Security and Medicare--are growing at rates that will eventually bankrupt them and that could leave little to pay for everything else government does.

We can’t just spend our way out of the problem; we must find a way to contain future costs.

The federal government already spends seven times as much on the elderly as it does on children. . . .

In addition, Social Security and Medicare need to be modernized to reflect conditions not envisioned when they were created in the 1930s and the 1960s.

Such changes, however, will only add to the cost of the programs unless they are accompanied by structural reforms that restrain their growth and limit their claim on the working families whose taxes support the programs. . . .

always found his posts hypocritical. He would use "lefty talk" to denounce the DLC or Third Way when it suited him, but quickly turn to scorn those who honestly don't like the DLC and Third Way when it suited him. He was also very pro gun up until the site changed tone after Newton. He didn't change because of Newton, but because many people on the site changed--the tide had turned. I often wondered if there is any issue he really honestly cares about. I stayed there for so long because of the community and other people--some of whom I argued with a lot. They had principals and I respect that. Kos is just a manipulator.

and while I started out in the Edwards camp, in hindsight we might have dodged a major bullet after his zipper troubles were exposed; cheating on your wife like Bill Clinton is one thing, cheating on your dying of cancer wife is different even if she's okay with it. (Some couples will agree to allow outside sexual relationships if one spouse can't enjoy sex due to illness or disability.)

I can see wanting to cut off the donation faucet for Sanders, even while I disagree. He may see it as taking resources away from down-ticket candidates. But why cut off discussion of issues and even votes? My vote is just as important to me as anyone's, even though I'm in America's Afterthought of California. Hillary Clinton probably won't need our votes in the primary -- but she sure loves our Silicon Valley money; seems like once a month she's at some shindig picking up more checks. (Do people actually use checks at those events, or is there an app that automatically transfers a few thousand from the checking account to the Clinton campaign?)
