Kos's Daily Attack on Bernie's Campaign
Kos is engaged and is going to try to win back his blog! Yes, for the second time in two days, he has a post about Devine and the super delegates. The purpose is to convince people Bernie has no chance to win.
That has been his theme since early March, but now he is accelerating it.
Every day, people will be bombarded with these messages. Surrender Dorothy, you have no chance.
The aim is to cut off donations and votes for Bernie.
I doubt it it will have much impact. Those for Bernie are not quitting. He can preach to Hillary supporters.
Glad this place exists. It is going to get bad there. Expect more refugees.
No doubt there will be counter posts there. The whole world is outside of that blog.
Update: I wrote a post there. If you still go back, I'd appreciate a rec.

Here's what I said:
It what appears to be a Daily Theme, Kos has another post about Tad Devine and super delegates. Don’t be distracted.
Rather than all the yelling and fighting, I propose donations to Bernie. Don’t get all caught up in flame wars. What matters is helping Bernie win as many delegates as he can.

He will win back his blog as people leave.
But it will take time and we will fight in every post and comment.
There are 7 months until the election
The longer people are away, the less likely they are to come back.

it was orgasmic, your essay at TOP. brilliant move.
and .........i hope Kos doesn't mind adding to OPOL's legendary status by that rather insane comment in his diary. and the time out.
it really is like an insane asylum over there. no. maybe it's more like they've become cult members. wow. one dimensional thinkers and they're mean.

Kos = Fox
As TOS accelerates toward irrelevancy (as has Washington Post and MSNBC) we will see the Fox News factor become more pronounced among those who continue to frequent TOS. That is, Kos readers will become increasingly ignorant of facts as they engorge themselves on HRC spin. Another upshot is that Her Hillaryness' supporters are all over 40 years of age. Thus, Kos is dooming his site to the geriatric ward

Already seeing the "Fox Factor"
How do any of these people, including Kos, think they will get folks to campaign or vote for Hillary? The only thing in her favor is the likelihood of a Republican adversary horrible beyond the imagination of most of us.
They think Trump is going to lose if for Hillary
they are making a huge gamble. I think Trump is more electable than Hillary. Either way it's bad decision making and will fail them.

I don't think that's sunk in with them.

It might be a record low turnout for a Presidential election. And low turnout will favor Trump.

When you look at the demographics
(someone posted the Quantcast link yesterday but I don't have it at hand), the site skews older (65+), wealthier (over $150K a year salary), whiter, and well-educated (grad school). Not much room there for blue collar families like mine, or the ones Bernie is trying to reach, or for the young folks trying to figure out how the hell they're going to pay off their college loans and maybe eventually buy a house so they aren't hit with rent increases every year.
And I think,
overwhelmingly male.

Bunch of old, rich, white guys black splaining to Bernie's supporters how white and entitled their ponies are.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
Well, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
Old? Well, over 50, so I guess "check". White? Hella white. As in I will never be darker than a light shade of beige at best... borderline blue (think scottish, but I'm irish, so I got SOME color apparently). So check there.
Rich? Hell, even pulling in decent low six figures I'm at best lower middle class, if such a thing still existed. So maybe that's why I pissed so many of those idiots off; They couldn't accuse me of wanting "free stuff", and they couldn't patronize me for being young, female, or an "uppity" minority.
Just another refugee from the Daily Chaos.
I bet if someone did a poll
I bet if someone did a poll (or whatever, survey?) of the current active membership of this site, c99, it would skew a LOT different. Especially the income levels. I'd bet the majority is us here are barely getting by.
and PS, my definition of "broke" is different from a lot of those type people too, lol. Clue#1, no it does not = things are getting so bad I might actually have to sell off my yacht!! ha!

I'm pretty much mobility challenged, and living in Brooklyn
I often to take a 'car service' to get around. More often than not I get an Hispanic driver with whom I tend to chat for the 15-20 minute ride, and before leaving the car I always ask " how do you say burn in Spanish" to which they reply " quemadura". And I say 'okay Sentir la Quemadura.' And for a moment they look a bit puzzled and then we laugh and together say "Feel the Burn!", and I hand them a card and go on my way.
Great story, mbeit!

We need to accept that the existence of Dkos is a net negative with regard to making the US more progressive. As I keep saying, its function is to dilute and dissipate progressive thought before it gets out into the mainstream.
Therefore we should aim for the ending of Dkos
Giving Kos pageviews doesn't really matter - they are very much a lagging indicator. Providing him with free content is idiotic IMHO. If no Sanders supporters/progressives posted the site would completely turn in on itself, shrivel and die. In other words reading stuff their does no harm - contributing stuff does.
Posting there persuades no one of anything -that is a feature not a bug. It just makes Kos richer.
I may have overstated things (wouldn't be the first time) and everyone is of course entitled to act as they see fit.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
Yes, we differ.
I don't care if Kos makes money.
There are still people there who can be reached and help the campaign. By fighting back, we heighten contradictions and show them.
It's cool. We differ. Let 1000 flowers bloom.
I don't care
whether Kos makes money or not - but I do care passionately about the future of the progressive movement - as you do. If I didn't see his operation as damaging to the left I wouldn't give him a passing thought.
On a related note: In the UK just after the war a newspaper called The Daily Mirror came into being. It had a left wing slant designed to appeal to the working class. Its purpose though was not to strengthen the working class but to weaken them by giving the illusion that their voices were being heard. It was created to do the exact opposite of what it claimed - to act as a safety valve, to stop dissent from the left hardening into action.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
I agree. We need as much cross-posting as possible.
That's how you get picked up by Google and the rest of the internet.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Well said, steve. Meself, I don't give a sh*t about Moulitsas or
his site. Lots of folks here have an emotional attachment to top because of the large personal time/energy investments they had made there and the friends they had made.
I left it last fall after lurking for years and being active for about a year, because I saw which way the wind was blowing and I wasn't used to being surrounded by so many conservatives and corporatists. I look forward to the day when the c99 community page isn't so much about top and much, much more about progressive activism and organizing. Best wishes mate,

Agree the balance
will shift and fully understand the attachment - I was an off/on commenter for around nine years or so and I still read the posts and comments. It is time to accept the inevitable though - Dkos is never going to be a comfortable home for progressives. Much better to build new - like here.

I think the dailykos site is not important enough
to believe that ending Dkos has any impact on anything. I believe dailykos is a sharade. There are too many valuable writers over there, who will not stop writing on that platform. Therefore I am rather glad that a couple of foot soldiers doing their work over there to slap the owner once n a while over his
mouthwrist. If dailykos should die or end, then it's more because it's starting to be boring. The valuable diaries are drowning in the big sink of dirty water. People might get tired to go there and searching for them. Actually it's a shame how many valuable diaries or collection of articles have to compete against the mass of stuff of babbling folks.https://www.euronews.com/live
That's why I never go over there.
Too bad that I wrote two very good diaries on Markos' site. I'm sorry he technically owns their content (that's right, isn't it?)
BTW, is bobswern interesting in coming over?

I dont think he owns your content
I made a point of reading the Kospedia before I signed up (13 years ago, iirc). I remember wanting to be sure about maintaining copyright to anything I might write -- I had seen other sites claim ownership, and that would have been a deal-killer for me. So that tells me that I would have made sure that the site didn't claim ownership before signing up.
Of course, that's an old memory now. So it would be best if someone checked the Kospedia to make sure.
The way I remember it being explained was: You retain ownership of your diaries (and so can delete them), but your comments are too important to the discussions so they can't be deleted. (Hmmm. Don't remember for sure what it said about ownership of comments or messages, or if that was even specified.)
Hmmm. May have to look into that.
TomP, you have the patience of a saint
to even respond to his nonsense, let alone doing so without resorting to the kind of temper tantrums he's prone to; I am actually embarrassed for Markos (I think the right word here is fontrum).
That was always his style
He used to do this in 2007 when he attacked Edwards (JRE was too left).
Then did it to attack Hillary.
The style helped make him. He wants his blog back. He'll rev up the Hillary folks.
I expect it every day.
I didn't mind it as much when he was more engaged
At least when he was writing on his own damn blog more frequently, I could rationalize his behaviour as being too familiar because he knew the people who commented well enough, you know? But there's no excuse for rudeness, and I don't think he deserved the benefit of the doubt.
I shouldn't say I didn't mind
I did and do mind, but I was more willing to overlook it.
There's always been a juvenile and shallow element
to Kos. I didn't spend 12 years there because of Kos. But in spite of him!
I hear you
He's created a good space for communities. Only reason I'm staying (for now) is for the pootie group.
Why not start a Pootie group here, Le Frog?
You could cross-post. Or just start a series.
How many people are staying there just for the Pooties? Including lurkers?
What if those eyes were liberated?
Just a thought . . ..
Is that okay with everyone?
I create a post featuring my two cats and make up a story to match the photos. If there's enough interest here, I will give it a shot.
just
please don't call them "pooties." That was the name applied by the rightist Redstate refugee PhillyGal, and it's long past time it was retired. Truly hideous, that appellation.
I prefer "Kittehs" ,myself :)
Or furbuts, or whatever. But by whatever name, I second the call for a kitteh and woozle group.

Bingo!
We had "fancy rats" for a few years.
That was the only problem...it was over so fast. We loved them, they were so friendly back. They had a big house-maze to climb around in, and, under supervision (didn't want them chewing on electric cords, or otherwise getting themselves hurt), we would let them loose in a room. Cancer got them all...it was heartbreaking. We have settled for cats pestering us at all hours. At least they don't die too soon. Though both of us talk about getting rats again, some day.

I am not a cat person. I admit. I once was a cruel person and set (in my younger age) two kittie cats free to survive on their own in the wilderness, because I couldn't handle them in my apartment. I know they did well, we had a lot of mice in the housing complex I lived back then.

Hey! Welcome!
Democrats, we tried to warn you. How is that guilt and shame working out?
Kos is Taboo with me
Since I left on 3/14 I have never gone back, and I never will. I refuse to even look at his site because I do not want to give him clicks or add to his daily total of discrete visitors. TOS cannot wither fast enough to suit me.
Ok with me.
Only asked those who still go back.
It's not going to wither and die. But the creation of this place is the first real competition from the left, and is a very good thing.
It just never has been as important as people wanted it to be, for good or bad.
Prior to the 2014 elections
and right after Markos made his pronouncement in July 2014 that Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee, I said that if he puts his eggs in the Clinton basket, Daily kos would become irrelevant. Well, he is rendering it irrelevant himself. It is an amazing thing to watch. He must have some nice gig waiting for him after the elections for his openly pushing the members there to jump onto the Hillary bandwagon.
I refuse to be herded. For me, this is much bigger than getting any Dem in the White House. I learned my lesson with Obama and I am staying the course with Bernie's revolution through the 2016 election and beyond.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." ~ President John F. Kennedy
Less relevant. It will survive in some form.
I don't think he has a job waiting for him, etc.
He never was left wing. He was a "libertarian Democrat." Remember? He is a little left of center and anti Iraq war. That's it.
He recoiled from Kucinich and Edwards (the 2008 left candidates).
He never would support Bernie and now wants to undermine donations. I think he sincerely believes it is best for the Democratic Party. But the Party is not more important than change. Not to me, anyway.
Yes, he was always a Blue Dog, which is why I
always found his posts hypocritical. He would use "lefty talk" to denounce the DLC or Third Way when it suited him, but quickly turn to scorn those who honestly don't like the DLC and Third Way when it suited him. He was also very pro gun up until the site changed tone after Newton. He didn't change because of Newton, but because many people on the site changed--the tide had turned. I often wondered if there is any issue he really honestly cares about. I stayed there for so long because of the community and other people--some of whom I argued with a lot. They had principals and I respect that. Kos is just a manipulator.
To be honest, I also recoiled from Kucinich
and while I started out in the Edwards camp, in hindsight we might have dodged a major bullet after his zipper troubles were exposed; cheating on your wife like Bill Clinton is one thing, cheating on your dying of cancer wife is different even if she's okay with it. (Some couples will agree to allow outside sexual relationships if one spouse can't enjoy sex due to illness or disability.)
I can see wanting to cut off the donation faucet for Sanders, even while I disagree. He may see it as taking resources away from down-ticket candidates. But why cut off discussion of issues and even votes? My vote is just as important to me as anyone's, even though I'm in America's Afterthought of California. Hillary Clinton probably won't need our votes in the primary -- but she sure loves our Silicon Valley money; seems like once a month she's at some shindig picking up more checks. (Do people actually use checks at those events, or is there an app that automatically transfers a few thousand from the checking account to the Clinton campaign?)
Also confounding
Kos shut down discussion of electronic voting in 2004/5, and it made no sense for him to fight against it. I would have though transparency in our voting and ending private control of our voting machines (and their counting software) would be a natural progressive cause. I left the first time for several years after that one.

It's a big Internet
As Kos likes to say, it's a big Internet. I know I don't have time to waste on his site battling the Hillary supporters who seem unfazed by all the dishonesty and dirty tricks that characterize her campaign. In RL I don't know anybody who is enthusiastic about Hillary for President. DailyKos is catering to a relatively small group of morally challenged partisans.
