COVID-19 urgent update for those dealing with the infection directly or caring for them
Starve a cold and feed a fever. I've never been quite sure of the applicability of that phrase. But a new apparent urgency has been given to fever management of COVID-19 patients.
Do not use antifinlammatories. Antiinflammatories are of two classes: Steroidal and non-steroidal. The commonest steroidal agents used in medicine are cortisol (hydroxycortisone), and prednisone, and prednisone. Other brand names also, such as Decadron (dexamethasone), Branded betamethasone, etc.
Non-steroidal antiinflammatories, NSAIDs, mimic steroid hormone-related drugs, without being complete replacements for steroids. They are thus less potent but only somewhat less likely to produce adverse medical effects as the hormone-derived antiinflammatories.
(chemical) Antipyretics reduce fever. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is not an NSAID but does reduce fever.
Fever plays a biological purpose, to enable the body's immune system, especially cellular ones, to function more efficiently. Yes, fever makes most people feel awful but it has survival value, both long-term, as a species, and on the individual level.
Consider that sweat baths, hot showers, etc. are often considered soothing, helpful or innervating. So response to fever is often considered by some to be pleasant. In the case of COVID-19 fever is likely beneficial occurring to recent observations. A clear cut brief recitation of this point is made on Dr. John Campbell's March 16 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuWo5lmWuZI
If you need to cool off, consider the following:
disrobe
cool baths
cooling fans
external application of ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol (called rubbing alcohol precisely for its antipyretic actions)
Internal (ethyl) alcohol in large quantities, especially when chronically consumed, depress the auto immune system.

My mother used to put
sliced raw potatoes all over our body to reduce fever, when I was a kid. I suppose it worked.

It is for bon vivants having a sophisticated palate
This elegant white meat is best served with a quality Chardonnay such as Chardona Domaine Leflaive Batard Montrachet Grand Cru - which has delicate notes of hazelnut and lemon.

Damn right!
Was he tasty?
I see you collect mementos. How
warmtender-hearted of you.Gotta run now. I've a funeral to see and people to do.
Not very tasty
for regular people as they dry up - maybe chips for reptiles, though. Yes, I’m sure.

I've got an 8' trailer. I'm going to subcontract my services to make a few extra bucks so I can pay for COVID-19 tests for me and my family. If you want to survive in this country you have to embrace free enterprise.
Warning, don't embrace too long
I've got a wheelbarrow.
I want to be as historically close as possible.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
With the wheelbarrow
You asked.......(WARNING!!! MAY OFFEND MANY)
Depends on if they're babies or bodys.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Offended. Indeed not.

Maybe we won't have the summertime blues. Maybe the pandemic slows

Guess I have to increase bud usage instead.

Bud?
You a cop?
I never stoop to budweiser the king of jeers.

Just got back from the bank
They were out of $100 bills and $50 bills.
Interesting.
Of course they're all out of $50's and $100's
Don't you know how bulky $10's and $20's can be when you're packing to leave the country to go to a nice sunny private island in an out of the way place?
Too damned hard to wash or disinfect.
I'm sticking to my plastic for a while. Got a mason jar with the paper if needed.

To be clear
The French tweet and interview are not specific to COVID-19, but are for any fever-inducing infection, although some of the media present it otherwise. France has required consultations with a pharmacist since mid January for purchases of NSAIDs. It is not clear that this restriction has been in any way helpful. Epidemiologists are annoyed that this is being misrepresented and suggest it is irresponsible for the French Minister of Health to tweet about this without any empirical evidence to support the claim. John Campbell argues that running a fever is good on a theoretical basis but has no empirical data that indicate that it actually helps with COVID-19.
Fever, within limits, is a biological aid to survival
As for gators, we get hyperactive and irritable at elevated temperatures. And the warmth really enhances our jaw muscles.

One year when I had whatever flu variety was then in style, I purposefully did not take antipyretics. Instead I roasted under several blankets even with T 103˚. I was better the next day. Coincidence? Maybe. How could I know, since I refuse to participate in a double-blind study?

I've been taking palmitoylethanolamide for about 6 years
because i am a glaucoma suspect (15 years now and no diagnosis) and it benefits the retina, etc. It's mostly used in Europe for pain.
The product comes from the Netherlands. (PEAPure Russell Science) and is sold through the glaucoma website Fiteyes. PEA is a natural anti-inflammatory that apparently does not depress the immune system. It's antiviral properties were discovered in the 1950's.

I haven't had the flu in many many years and don't get flu shots. I also take elderberry syrup all winter (now extended in to the spring). All that being said, at age 69 I am self isolating, washing hands, sanitizing and using gloves when I go out to shop. This virus is an unknown, so best to be safe and throw the book at it.
