Listen Up Democratic Party Establishment

As a member of the disaffected left, I feel it is my duty to let you know that I will do whatever I can to throw a monkey wrench into the upcoming election by not voting for your chosen candidate. Period. And I will do my utmost to convince others of the same.

We, the disaffected left, have the power to split this Party. I hope you understand that.

I will never vote for a Democratic establishment/centrist ever. I will vote anything but blue if you shove another centrist down our throats.

Great to see such unanimity here! To vote for an establishment chosen centrist is to wish for the beatings to continue. Centrists are why we are here in this mess. They are who stole and then destroyed the Dem party. It appears they are willing to burn it down before changing what they changed it into, a party of authoritarianism, Wall St. and the MIC.

You would think they would have learned something from telling the progressives to F off a few years ago. It rather appears not. They can't win without us, and remain stubbornly in the 'where ya gonna go' Clinton Triangulation idiocy. They are not on our side. Not Biden, Buttgig, Kamala or Warren, Amy or Bloombucks, none of them. All phony pretenders.

I hope we can Bern them down.

The riff-raff have withdrawn from the field, now it's the main event. The score is practically tied.
There is a reason voters and donors had doubts about Biden. It wasn't that he couldn't get people to vote for him, it was that he can't hold it together any more.
Sanders will hammer away on policy. Does anyone really like Biden's policies? There must be a few who do. The rest of his supporters don't care. The voters that care are already Team Sanders.
From Caitlin Johnstone's article today:

It doesn’t matter what political positions a dementia victim once had; what matters is taking care of him and keeping him away from hazards, like sharp objects and nuclear launch codes.

Biden can't avoid the cameras now. He will be propped up by the friendly media, not shown live so that the can edit out the worst bits. But they aren't the only ones with cameras. If the Republicans were smart they would wait until the convention is over to wreck Biden's campaign. But they won't be able to help themselves. They'll make the case that Sanders is too chivalrous to make. Sanders would feel compelled to denounce any surrogates that did. Republicans are free to make the case, and they will.

Courage, comrades!

Under no circumstances will I vote for Biden, nor will I vote for Trump out of spite.

Dems choose a member of The Blue Man Group. If the have voted like a Republican or supported Republican policies, then they’re a Republican and I’m not voting for them. Blue is just a color. We need real, progressive policies that help the 99%. I’m writing in Bernie if the party can’t start supporting the people. We’re done supporting a party that victimizes us.

I remember being angry when Dems were called latte-sipping elitists. Boy was I wrong! Both parties are elitists and crooks.

If it should appear that Uncle Joe is actually going to be the nominee--some days, like some here, I figure that the Dem PtB may push to nominate him, only to substitute someone else at some point, due to his (obviously) greatly diminished mental capacity--will go out of my way to point out his many ill-informed/neoliberal/anti-populist policy positions over a lifetime.

You're singing my theme song. Sure I'm with you.

But not only that, I can feel the People rising up from coast to coast.

The Democrats will not win an election in the US until we allow them to win.

We have the power to block the selfish Centrists and Party bosses at every turn — just as they have been blocking and crushing the Left for more than a century in the US. They have harmed the lives of the workers, unions, families, and the middle class in their frenzy to stuff their pockets full of super-sized predatory profits. Democratic leaders are the corrupt politicians who serve the corporations and monopolies, helping them cheat the people. They grow rich peddling their influence while stealing our share of the civilization that we the People built, alongside all the hard-working people who came before us.

Make no mistake, Centrist Democrats and fake Progressives. The American People didn't toil and sacrifice for you greedy, power-hungry politicians — they sacrificed for us, for the future of their descendants. Now we are sacrificing and building a better society and taking care of the environment and preserving precious natural resources and pristine lands so that the next generation, and the next can live fulfilling and meaningful lives in peace. You war-mongering parasites are no longer going to use Our Democracy to asset-stripping this nation's wealth and then stick us with your obscene debt.

The time has come for a reversal of fortune. Withholding a modern public health care system from the American people, so to continue the medical industry profiteering — was the final straw. The corrupt politicians who drive 600,000 American families into medical bankruptcy each year, and cause 100,000 disabilities and deaths through medical neglect — can be stopped immediately. With our vast numbers, we can focus our voting blocs to defeat the election of the Democratic politicians and Centrist dead-enders who are actively betraying and harming the People. We will drive them out of the Party, out of the nation's capitol, and out of politics. Then, we'll do the same for the Republican reactionaries and the corrupt authoritarian know-nothings who dare run for office in a People's Republic. In our spare time, we will help the International Court settle up the war crimes they enabled.

This is an email I sent to my sister last week:

We got selected to participate in an Annenberg Study - I got selected - and I'd tell 'em to fuck off but they pay $15 for each survey so what the hell. After the first survey I emailed 'em this:
One of your questions was

--will I vote for Donald Trump regardless of the Dem nominee
--will I vote against Donald Trump regardless of the Dem nominee
--vote for or against Donald Trump depending on the Dem nominee

I chose the last one though none are correct. I'll not vote for Trump ever. The question is will I vote Dem or Green/third party (if the Dems cheat again).

The framing of your question really tips your hand. You also didn't offer not voting if the Dems cheat again and push a corporatist republican-lite warmongering candidate.

GLS

And someone named Dana responded quite predictably:

Hi GLS,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I have passed your note along to the research team. Please be assured this academic research project is NOT affiliated with any political candidate, party, or organization.

We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to compete our surveys!

Best,

Dana

I tried to explain briefly that the left v right paradigm is a fake construct that's time has passed. I really don't think they give a shit. Their funders are not interested in understanding people outside their bubble. Only how to control them within a narrow Orverton window that (not so) skillfully avoids and thus precludes any challenge to or even rethink of the Washington Consensus of war, neoliberalism & neofeudalism.

Dana, Thanks for your response.
Please be assured this academic research project is NOT affiliated with any political candidate, party, or organization.

The hand you tipped is not whether you are supporting a specific political candidate, party, or organization, but rather your framing the research in terms of the left/right, team blue/team red duopoly.

Outside the Washington beltway bubble, outside the "think" tanks & cable news propaganda machines, in the real world where real people have lives, not "life styles", it's class warfare - and we're getting our asses kicked and have been since FECA 1972/1974 - though many say only since the DLC/Clinton's went into high-gear exercising any and all vestiges of FDR and The New Deal from mainstream American political discussion.

America has one political party - the Billionaire Corporate War Party. That party has 2 marketing groups no more substantively different on issues of war, corporate control of our media & government and the hoovering up of global wealth into the hands of the already privileged than the "Left Twix/Right Twix" ad campaign. The quality of life of average American citizens and the future of our children is simply not on their balance sheet.

My comment was simply that I recognize you are operating inside that bubble and not in the real world. Still happy to participate for $15 a pop. I wish you paid cash instead of CorporateBucks [Annenberg pay via giftcard] - where you decide where, and can track upon what I spend the $15. But it's still $15.

GLS

That is all.

My sis agreed & liked the email.

I want the DNC to know that the more they kick and injure people, the more I am likely to react just as the people of Michigan did in 2016. Thanks to Can't Stop the M... for posting Michael Moore's speech up-thread:

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/michael-moore-endorsed-donald-trump/

Donald Trump came to the Detroit Economic Club and stood there in front of Ford Motor executives and said “if you close these factories as you’re planning to do in Detroit and build them in Mexico, I’m going to put a 35% tariff on those cars when you send them back and nobody’s going to buy them.” It was an amazing thing to see. No politician, Republican or Democrat, had ever said anything like that to these executives, and it was music to the ears of people in Michigan and Ohio and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin...

Whether Trump means it or not, is kind of irrelevant because he’s saying the things to people who are hurting, and that’s why every beaten-down, nameless, forgotten working stiff who used to be part of what was called the middle class loves Trump. He is the human Molotov Cocktail that they’ve been waiting for; the human hand grande that they can legally throw into the system that stole their lives from them… the enemy of my enemy is who I’m voting for on November 8.

Yes, on November 8, you Joe Blow, Steve Blow, Bob Blow, Billy Blow, all the Blows get to go and blow up the whole goddamn system because it’s your right. Trump’s election is going to be the biggest "fuck you" ever recorded in human history…

again. Let me know if anyone can name one bill that democrats haven't voted for? The only one that they didn't was the tax cut bill, but then that was only because republicans didn't need their votes. But since they screwed it up so badly they needed democrats to help fix it and they were only too happy to.

As Strife pointed out today the democrats do whatever republicans want them to because they both have the same donors. I think Trump has been selected to oversee the final hollowing out of the country by the elite which will end when the economy blows up again. Bigly. He's not Vlad's puppet. He is the Rothchild's puppet. They bailed him out decades ago and that's why he put Wilbur Ross on the treasury department.

When I first came to this site back in March of 2016 I felt there was a solid NO among this community to falling in line and voting for “her” because the dems said we had to oppose D. Trump no matter what. But for me, and most of everyone here at that time, “her” was a bridge too far, and it was so freeing to be in a place where it was allowed to say hell no, I’m not voting for her or trump, period.

I never thought the dems could come up with anyone I would be more opposed to than Hillary Clinton. But I was wrong, they did. Joe Biden... aw hell no. Nevah. The dems only proved what I’ve expected of them for the past three + years, and my commitment to not voting for their party ever again remains, strong as it was then and more.

I know we’re going to be hit from all sides with messages about stopping trump at all costs. But nope... Joe Biden will never have a vote from me.

… and for me, if Biden's the nominee, a lot is going to depend on the VP pick. I think he's got to reach out to the more progressive wing of the party, not going with some establishment regular like Tim Kaine (HRC's pick in 2016). Also important cuz the guy, if elected, would be the oldest President at time of inauguration in history (same would be true in the case of Bernie as well).

A historical aside -- can't rule out the possibility of a repeat of the Tom Eagleton/James Sherman situation, but this time at the top of the ticket. Eagleton, many of you may recall, was McGovern's running mate nominated at the '72 convention who got dropped from the ticket after certain revelations about some prior medical/mental treatment issues arose. James Sherman goes further back in history: he was Taft's VP pick (indeed, was the incumbent VP) in 1912 who died a week before the election and was replaced by a University President. In both cases, the replacement had to be approved by the party regulars -- never happened before for a Major Party Presidential pick, but presumably the VP pick would be anointed as a replacement, and this is why I feel the VP pick for the Dems in 2020 is much more important than ever given the advanced age of the two front-runners.

(side-note: with Biden, the risk is not only great because of his advanced age, obvious mental frailty, but also the possibility of an even greater scandal via these recent investigations both in the US Senate and the Ukraine into his prior involvement in firing the Ukrainian prosecutor heading up the Burisma investigation)

He did very well for his family and was able to take me on a trip to Italy when I graduated from high school, where I saw him talk a watch peddler in Pisa all the way from €120 to €10. The big secret, he said, was simply this:

"You have to be willing to walk away."

In our local Harris County (think Houston, TX) primary, it was so hard to find decent people to vote for among the Democratic ranks, I seriously wondered whether I might have had an easier time had I taken the GOP primary ballot. It turned out that nearly everyone I voted for lost, but I'm used to that.

I'm tempted to say I'd vote for Biden only if he had Bernie as the VP, but that's only because I think Biden's clock is closer to midnight than the fabled Doomsday Clock, and Bernie would take over. But, nah. I'd vote for Trump first ... and I will never vote for Trump. Ever.

Are the Republicans better? I give them credit for looking you right in the eye and telling you how they're going to screw you. The Democrats plan for the same, but smile at you ... all the while their hand is behind their back and has a knife with your name all over it. So, the gawd-awful Democrats can pound sand right up their asses.

@Dawn's Meta on my Democratic friends but I won't hold out much hope there. While both know the real deal both are terrified enough of Trump and what he's doing, rightly so, that they'll probably just vote blue and hope for the best. That's fine, I won't lecture them anymore than I already have, but I will be damned if I will vote blue unless it is Bernie. As Joe said above, Bernie is my compromise vote and if he's not on the ballot I may write him in or just not vote at all.

I'll be saying it again:

"Vote blue no matter who" is an attempt to groom progressives into going along with being cheated.

I'm not playing that game. It is never wise to enable abusers.

I will vote for Bernie or Tulsi for POTUS. That's it. If neither of them is the nominee, I will either vote third party as I did in 2016 (Jill Stein), or write in Bernie's name on my ballot.

Now it will just look like piling on when I say I won't vote for Biden either but since I rolled up in here last summer talking about never ever Warren I don't imagine my refusal to get on board with any kind of establishment bullshit will suprise anyone. I'm not even a Democrat* and the entitlement these people have displayed about having to earn my vote with decent policy has been absolutely fucking jaw-dropping.

In the 2016 primary, Clinton ran really hard against all of my major policy issues. Why in hell would I vote for that? I wouldn't and I didn't. Same as joe shikspack says upthread, Sanders is already a compromise position for me, and his policy is as far as I'm willing to compromise. Past that point it's not a compromise, it's a surrender, and I don't bend the knee. The Party can either meet me in FDR territory with Sanders and pick up my vote in Ohio or else they can go fuck themselves, simple as that.

See Snoopy's essay "Biden explains why we should vote for Bernie" today which clearly demonstrates that Warren, after attacking Bernie and Berners on Maddow last night, is extremely unlikely to be endorsing Bernie (unless if he pulls off the miracle of getting the nominiation and even then who knows?).

It's time to do what we can to expose Biden as a corporate and MIC tool and highlight his long history of opposition to social security and other social welfare programs.

@Wally that interview -- sounds interesting and maddening. I wonder if Biden asked her if she can't endorse him then to at least not endorse anyone. That's almost as good as an endorsement for Joe.

Me, I'm still processing the unexpected outcome from Tues as I was a bit unhappy with the results. My delightful housemate from another country was amused to see me pacing around uttering words a bit stronger than my usual Shucks and Darn.

I'm very much not inclined to cast a vote in Joe's direction. It would take a very bold and worthy VP pick to get me interested. Fortunately, here in CA, I have plenty of time and flexibility to sort this out as the state will go for the Dem nominee regardless of what I do. But my firm position today is that I don't want to do anything to further enable the establishment wing. They have picked their lame candidate, now let them push him across the finish line.

It still amazes me that so many voters could go with a guy who is clearly going to soon be a strong candidate for a room in an assisted living facility. (And, yes, I assign major blame to the sheeple for obediently following a bunch of hack pols on whom to vote for.). But I tried my best to warn people, and historians of this site will note that I was one of the earliest posters, maybe the first, to point out Joe's obvious signs of mental decline.

Frankly I've never expected her to do the right thing. I've had a lot of arguments with Democratic friends about why I've never liked or trusted Warren specifically. Then just generally, any member of Congress who's not clearing the low bar of consistently voting against military budget hikes is worse than useless.

It's time to do what we can to expose Biden as a corporate and MIC tool and highlight his long history of opposition to social security and other social welfare programs.

My health seems unlikely to permit my ability to knock doors for Sanders next week, about which I am beyond frustrated, but in lieu of that I'll be making a campaign donation and persuading friends and acquaintances. Good news on that front: my longtime dear friend who had been marinating in the cable news and who had become so aggressive about their talking points that I asked her to stop talking to me about it must have taken that to heart because she came back to me recently and apologized, told me she'd been fact-checking the media, and as a result of that had sent Bernie some money, lol.

But I won't vote for the two senile grifters at the head of the two major parties. I hold out a sliver of hope for Sanders getting the nomination, but a sliver is not big. If Tulsi does run as a third-party/independent I'll vote for her. I'll vote for Green. I'll vote for a socialist if there's one on the ballot. But I won't vote for the two senile grifters at the head of the two major parties.

TULSI 2020

This is the day of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand
It seems like only yesterday
I gazed through the glass
At ramblers, wild gamblers
That's all in the past

You call me a fool
You say it's a crazy scheme
This one's for real
I already bought the dream
So useless to ask me why
Throw a kiss and say goodbye
I'll make it this time
I'm ready to cross that fine line

My back to the wall
A victim of laughing chance
This is for me
The essence of true romance
Sharing the things we know and love with those of my kind
Libations, sensations
That stagger the mind
