As if we needed another tell: Obama endorses DWS in primary
Link: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/house-races/274443-obama-endorses-wa...
Knock me over with a feather! President Obama has endorsed Debbie Wasserman-Schultz in her primary race over Bernie Sanders-supporter Tim Canova.
LOL:
The president announced his support in a statement released through the lawmaker's campaign on Monday morning that applauds Wasserman Schultz’s progressive chops — an implicit pushback at criticism from the man challenging her in the primary from the left.
“Debbie has been a strong, progressive leader in Congress and a hardworking, committed Chair of our national Party since I proudly nominated her to the role in 2011,” Obama said.
“She always stands up and fights for what is right for her district while passionately supporting middle class families.”
I bet Obama reaaaallllly likes the number DWS has put on Bernie.
Good work, Debbie! (pats head)

Of course...
We've been bitching about his lies and manipulations since 20 minutes after he was elected in 2008. He and his campaign always reminded me of the character Elmer Gantry. The way he courted the youth and avoided their parents' generation reminded me of a guy in windowless panel truck trying to give candy to children. Obama sucks as much as the Clintons. Another candidate the KosKops demanded loyalty to or else.

i was still coming to grips with how bad a president Clinton was, even though I'd written about it several times at TOP. but after 8 years of Bush, I thought it's got to get better.
in 2012, totally awake and anti political party including brand Dem, I wrote an essay "Withholding My Vote" and they went nuts... all the finger wagging moralists who now stand proudly on Obama's continuation of BushCo's death and destruction, call him one of the most successful presidents evah and they are exactly the people who want Hillary.
it must mean these people want death and destruction of others. to control, tightly control their own small world by destroying the bigger world outside of themselves.
man. do we ever need a revolution that is evolutionary.

And those that call him the best president evah
Also write that he has ended two wars and hasn't started any new ones. One person who wrote that statement is a FPer and I thought WTF?
I guess she hadn't heard that the war in Afghanistan is still happening, that there are troops back in Iraq? Or that he is using drones in 7 countries, dropped more bombs from drones in his first 3 months then Bush did during his entire presidency.
I guess that person also slept thru Libya and Syria and that he has JSOC troops in countries all over Africa.
I could go on about how income inequality is the worst it has been since 1928, but when people say that he is the best president evah, then they are wearing blinders.

That was why I didn't watch the Obama inauguration
Obama stood by and let the reichwingnuts control the religious narrative for his administration - which should not even BE part of any of the political decisions or ceremonies for any president; period - all contrary to the US Constitution, as he should have known if he were a good constitutional scholar.
Letting Warren carry the day was one of the first mistakes of the Obama administration's first term since it came only five months after Obama voted for FISA '08 (breaking one of his campaign promises before he was even elected, but after he had the nomination sewn up), and three days after the FISA fiasco Obama said he'd not only expand Dumbya's 'office of faith-based initiatives,' but increase the funding for it, another illegal and unconstitutional piece of chicanery which desperately needs to be disbanded on the grounds of unconstitutionality since it's a toe in the door to instituting a national religion by government mandate, and morons like Canadian-born Ted Cruz with his religious fanaticism would be quick to take advantage of. Since it was created with an executive order, I think the 'office of faith-based initiatives' could be disbanded and struck off the federal payroll with a countermanding executive order.
I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute ..., where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference. — President John F. Kennedy, Houston, TX, 12 September 1960
I was working full time
in the primary here in Oregon. The day after Senator Obama voted for FISA I quit. I already had reservations as the OFA had sent their goons squads to his Portland campaign headquarters. They came from DC and had a big meeting where they told us all not to talk about 'issues' just tell your story of how you came to Jesus. We were also told not to bad mouth or rile up Hillary supporters.
I still feel guilty about all the people I hornswoggled and often think I should go back and apologize to the new Democratic voters I registered and the disenfranchised young and old people I convinced that this was change they could believe in. One guy whose wife was on my list was out working in his yard and said as I walked up to their door. "I really do not trust him and I think both you and my wife are going to regret believing in this fraud'.

I did not see this coming, no. I expected her to find herself on her own, given up as a sacrificial, uh, you know. In the service of The Party. Sacrificed election-wise, that is, but guaranteed to have some sort of well-paid job in the administration, if Clinton manages to defy odds.
But... endorsed by anyone who wants to keep his elected position?
No way.
But what was I thinking? Our current president does not fall in that category.

That's the best he can hope for, imo
I think he'll be excoriated for pushing the TPP in every way he could and for what will be more widely seen as the sell-out to the insurance industry of the Affordable Care Act. And for his harsh record on whistleblowers, on the continuing wars (minimized for PR value), Gitmo, his failure to prosecute Wall St. fraud and allow those who created the risk to bear the consequences of their gambling. He continued the policy of socializing risk and privatizing profit in the finance sector. I think that history, looking back, will find the good stuff outweighed by the bad stuff, akin to Bill Clinton. He and his family will be found to be more personable and personally liked, but his legacy will be seen as more tarnish than shine, signaled by appointments of Emanuel, Geithner, Summers, and the foreign policy disaster of Clinton's State Dept.

Just my two cents
I agree with every sentiment in these comments, and yet, I still think Obama has been a great President. Not as great as I would have wanted, and not as great as I think Bernie will be if he wins, but still great. And if Clinton wins I think we will miss Obama. I could tell you a few reasons for my "great" rating, but I can sum it up in two points.
1. I only have the other Presidents to compare him to...this job is not done in a vacuum.
2. He has resisted getting involved in the Assad regime change game. He has had to beat back tons of neocon and non-neocon advisors to get us to avoid a sure quagmire. Has he been perfect on the Middle East? Hell no!!! But again, the comparison to other Presidents shows itself.
Moves like this DWS endorsement make me sick. Today, I am sickened by Obama. But in 10 years I know for sure I will miss him. I thought Obama would be a 9, but he is a 7.
But you know, in this case the difference between 7 and 9 is actually a helluva lot.
Anyway, here are my ratings. Obama - 7, Bill Clinton - 5, Carter - 6, GHWB - 2, GWB - 0, Reagan - 2
Please record my Presidential ratings in your archives. It's important!!! Hahaha

"The nightlife ain't no good life, but it's my life."
I must disagree with you
Obama has presided over the continuation of eternal war and by so doing has made it acceptable. W's actions were criminal. It was the responsibility of the next President to fix it, to clean it up, to get rid of the concept that we could invade "just because", that we could bomb places "because there might be enemies there".
Consider what we'd think if China started bombing six or seven countries and acted like they were being patriotic. Imagine if Russia did that. You've seen how people freaked out because of the Ukraine situation. Well the US with Bush was much worse and Obama, instead of reversing it has made it our way of life. For that he gets a zero. For pushing the TPP he gets a zero. For his drones he gets a zero and for joking about his drones he gets a zero....because my scale only goes that low. For double crossing us on the public option he gets a zero.
You are right, and yet...
Once again, I agree with everything you wrote in your response.
Maybe I just have two opinions that really don't go together.
Maybe I just don't have the courage of my convictions.
Maybe growing up under Reagan - Bush, and then being politically traumatized by Bush II, I am like some kind of disoriented shell with no moral compass.
I actually can sum up the cognitive dissonance like this:
For whatever reason, I seem to be of two minds all the time. If you care to listen I will explain.
On the one hand, I think of how we live as humans and as a nation and I think: This is insane from top to bottom. It is death. The way slavery and genocide set a tone for our country that so few acknowledge or understand, and how it reflects itself in our foreign policy and social policy to this day. How we get our food, how we take so many drugs, how we trash this beautiful planet, how we waste our time on frivolous pursuits that may be a collective passion but usually lacks a spiritual component (sports, entertainment).
It is this mind that gives Obama a straight up 0.0 Animal House style.
My other mind is more cynical and sort of accepts that the "shitty way of things" is just how it will always be, no matter how insane. I know it's crazy, and I know you know it's crazy, but "they" don't really seem to care or notice. Most people just accept that this shitty corporate consumer nation is life as they know it and always will be. In this world, Obama was never going to stop our role of having a huge presence in the Middle East, where we have all of these "strategic interests" that the Serious People are concerned with, damn the humanitarian consequences. In this world, we WILL be in the Middle East. Obama ain't stoppin this WAY by himself, when you have Clintons and Schumers and Manchins in your own party and even more insane warmongers across the aisle. So given that we are locked into an immoral resource based strategy with guaranteed blowback, I think that Drones make some sense. BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE AN INSANE VIEW OF THIS LIFE AND THIS WORLD AND HOW TO BEHAVE. And we sure do.
So that is my other mind. And look, I know red meat causes global warming and is cruel to animals. But I eat cheeseburgers on the regular. I live in California and I get more Double Doubles than Blake Griffin. That's where the thing about not having the courage of my convictions comes in. I live in this insane world that is not going to change the basic WAY. So I give in and eat cheeseburgers and give Presidents who send Drone death to bad guys and their families alike a big fat 7 rating.
But that side of me that knows it's WRONG, both the cheeseburger and the drones, it just seems to be getting the better of me more and more every day. And this campaign, with the sick power of the corporations and their owned politicians on constant display, just makes me less and less able to abide by this madness.
So I still give Obama a simultaneous 7 and a 0. But you know what? I know deep down and not so deep down that the 7 rating is INSANE. We have to be better than that 7. If we can't be better than that 7 rating as a nation, due to our WAY, then maybe I can be better than that 7 as an individual.
Here is a philosophical question. If I switch my Obama rating to 0, can I still have the cheeseburgers?

Hey DMW, how are you mate? I worship the ground that Jimmy
Carter walks on. Not one American soldier died in wars on his watch. He was right on climate change and renewable energy in 1976!!!! When I think that Obama and Kissinger share the Nobel Peace Prize I despair of humanity. Oh wait, I despaired of humanity long before that. I love that man. Teddy Kennedy, the miscreant, robbed him of a 2nd term. To think, the world could have been spared 40 years of America-on-Reagan. I hope Kennedy rots in hell and can't wait to clout him with a 2x4 - burning one - in hell one day. (I'm a bit mental today, as you can see :=) I hope your doing well, mate. Take care, eh.

Spring break finally over so I have my days back with the kids in school, so that helps.
I admit, I was born only 2 months before Carter was elected, so I don't remember much. I do remember getting away with a lot of stuff as a kid that kids aren't allowed to do anymore though...
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Carter an Excellent President Emeritus.
He's been the sort of president after leaving office as he should have been while in office. The difference? He is keeping his own counsel and not listening to the likes of Bert Lance and Zbigniew Kazimierz Brzezinski - who once aspired to be as big a war criminal as Henry Kissinger..
Vowing To Oppose Everything Trump Attempts.
Agree, neoconned. Even though we are still
feeling the effects of the Trilateral Commission (at one time headed by Ziggie), it's fair to say that Carter has devoted his entire post-Presidency in pursuit of achieving peace, and fighting for human rights around the world.
During (some of) our years in Atlanta, he was Governor, and without a doubt, an honorable man.

We'll have to see
if Obama emulates Bill Clinton in his post presidency, going around doing some good things but mostly soaking up the big bucks personally.
I have been bitterly disappointed in Obama lately, though. His silence as the DNC overturned the lobbyist money rule right after the New Hampshire primary was ....indefensible. And now this. Supporting someone who is in favor of weakening the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. WTF?

Teddy Kennedy deliberately sabotaged Carter.
It was unforgivable what the Liberal Lion did. he set the path for Ronald Reagan, in great part because of his sabotage.

As I recall, after his Ides of March Edict, the Owner tried to placate the Berniecrats by calling for the ouster of DWS and Rahm Emanuel.
