New Hampshire Results Coming In--Sanders Declared Winner!

Sanders declared the winner in New Hampshire, with 90% of results in.

Right now (1:24 AM NH time), 97% precincts reporting:

Sanders: 25.9%
Buttigieg: 24.4%
Klobuchar: 19.8%
Warren: 9.3%
Biden: 8.4%
Steyer: 3.6%
Gabbard: 3.3%
Yang: 2.8%

Things are wrapping up. Maybe one or two more updates coming--then it is off to sleep!

Gabbard's run here is very disappointing, although I still favor her. She spent 98 days in the state, and around $2 million here, and managed to convince less than 10 thousand people to support her. Not looking good overall for her presidential bid.

fake — a computer simulation — when he sees the result of doing something unexpected — driving to a place in the desert no one would normally have a reason to go to, taking a road that is supposed to be blocked off. What he finds is that when he exceeds certain limits, the simulation he is living in stops bothering to render nuance and detail. What appear to be solid mountains in the distance are exposed as merely a wire-frame computer model.

In a like vein, years ago there was a video for people writing computer software showing two guys at an industry conference relaxing in a pleasantly decorated refreshment area, enjoying a cup of coffee. One of them absent-mindedly does something unexpected — picks up a packet of salt instead of sugar and pours it into his coffee. Suddenly they find themselves in the basement, surrounded by grimy pipes and thundering equipment. A sign appears out of nowhere saying: “An unanticipated condition occurred: salt in coffee. System error -1117.” The moral for computer people is that even when users do something unusual or surprising, the system should be able to handle it and continue to behave reasonably rather than crash.

The other day I realized that this is what a lot of people are doing when they vote for Brexit, or Trump, or in Germany the right-wing AfD. They are testing the system.

Doing or saying something supposedly off-limits or taboo is a way of testing if democracy is real. Establishment freak-out and hysteria — the system ceasing to bother rendering nuance and detail — exposes the democracy of the system as being simulated rather than real.

I was being anti-fascist. And then one day I took a look at myself and the Green party and realized that the Greens of today were not at all like the Greens of yesteryear.

I realized that, through actual actions and policies of the Greens in power, I was co-enabling NATO (wars, military expansionism), the Saudis and other Gulf rulers (absolute monarchy, fossil fuels, weaponized extremist Sunni Islam), Israel (nuclear arms, occupation, creeping annexation), the U.S. deep state (treatment of Snowden, Assange, and other whistleblowers; NSA surveillance of everyone in Germany right up to and including Chancellor Merkel), and an economically neoliberal E.U. (globalization, corporatism, FED-style central banking, disempowerment of the regional and local).

Enough people here have told me that out of disappointment and frustration after reunification, they gave up voting entirely for many years, but now vote far left or far right, deliberately screwing around and voting “irresponsibly” to see if anything they do even registers. It’s like shaking or slamming the political vending machine when it doesn’t give you what you chose and paid for. Or like the protagonist in the movie The Truman Show, who starts acting unpredictable and out of control as an experiment, after events give him reason to suspect that reality is not what it seems.

This is Warren setting up the ground work so that when she (obviously) backs a centerist candidate like Amy or Pete- or Billionaire Mike, instead of Sanders, she can fall back on this and not look like she never was into progressive policies at all.

I really think so. I don’t think she was going to ever endorse Bernie, like people are expecting. She tipped that hand in 2016 and frankly, she’s more comfortable with the right wing Dems than Bernie.

Warren’s campaign is so odd. She has crap political instincts. It’s like it hasn’t occurred to her until the last few months that she doesn’t have a lane to run in and she’s just been flailing. She tried the progressive thing but when pushed, she folded. Now she can’t go too far right or she loses the people who still think she’s a progressive. But the establishment doesn’t want her either.

It's funny how she used to be a republican, but then decided she was a democrat after the Clintons became Reagan democrats. And that Bloomberg used to be a republican, but now he has decided he's going to be a democrat. And Trump used to be a democrat, but then he became a republican.

I'm seeing lots of people getting behind Bloomberg, but he was totally behind the republicans agendas for years or decades. He gave speeches at the republican convention, endorsed lots of republicans for congress. He endorsed some person who beat a democrat that would have given the senate to democrats. This is the ads Trump will run with if Bloomberg gets the nod.

I got dizzy following this line of thought. But this years election is really f'cked up isn't it? Actually what it shows me is that it's really what party people say they are, it's that it shows how fluid they are and they change directions to whatever they think will work best for them and not us.

Nah -- she has none. She has no natural political talent and is too much of a political novice to have developed any. She's been relying in HRC retreads to guide her. Hence the attack on Bernie when she (and the others) should have focused on Buttercup (who Trump will make mincemeat of just as he did Rubio). She could also have made an excellent case against Biden and his bankruptcy and scooped up much of his soft support when he had such a thing. Suspect that she held off on that for a later date when she and Biden were supposed to be the last two standing.

I found her interesting back in 2006-7 when she began popping up in response the Biden's bankruptcy bill. When Obama passed on her for the CFPB (and milquetoast version of New Deal regulations)l, I thought she'd be a good additional voice in the Senate. However, with each passing year, I've thought less and less highly of her until now when I pretty much loathe her. @Dr. John Carpenter

Her campaign didn't release any fundraising numbers for January; so, easy to conclude that they weren't good. Suspect that after IA her campaign team advised her to throw everything she had at NH. Liz, being financially conservative, wouldn't have been inclined to do that (unlke HRC), but with Klob rising, she may have.

Most recent NV poll is from January 11. (RCP averages) Biden 21%, Sanders 17.5%, Warren 11.5%, Steyer 10%.

SC (from 1/26--2/2) Biden 31%, Steyer 18,5%, Sanders 17%, Warren 9.5%.

(NV and SC must be where Steyer dropped a bunch of that $200 million he's spent.)

If IA and NH are any precedent, Joe and Liz's polls numbers are probably dropping in NV and SC.
