Friday Night Photos Rose Garden Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 10/09/2026 - 5:00pm
Another Friday night. You know what that means. Time to post any photos, memes, music or anything else that brightened your week or you find of interest.
Yesterday was the first day since last Friday the mercury dipped below triple digits. The worst of the heat wave was last Friday when temps topped out at 111°. I've lived in San Diego county since 1977 and I don't remember it ever being that hot. Hopefully that will be the last of the extreme heat until next summer. Supposed to get rain Sunday and Monday.
Since I'll be passing through the City of Roses (Portland, Ore) on my way to Tillamook, Ore. on Sunday for a five day get together with family, I thought roses would be an appropriate subject for tonights photos.

Nice closeups of the roses.
BTW
Are you impacted by this? On the map Newport Beach appears to be close to San Diego.
Hi, humphrey
Newport Beach is about an hour and a half north of San Diego. I haven't seen or heard anything like that happening along our coastal cities, but I haven't seen any local news today.

Hi Social
Beautiful roses, all. The second image of orange folds makes me think of a frilly curtain, from which something unexpected might jump out ; ).
Are you driving that long distance from home to Tillamook? It looks like a beautiful area.
Thank you, Janis
It's a three day drive one way and that's more time than I want to spend on the road so as much as I don't like flying I'll bite the bullet and spend a few hours on a plane.

There are times for road trips,
and then there are other times.
I will be busy preparing for my long travel overseas in the next couple weeks to visit my girls.
Knowing how much
you like spending time with your girls, I bet you can hardly wait.

Signs of Spring
Enjoy the weekend and be well
Hi, Janis
Nice signs of spring. I like the patterns on the Dandelion. It was 92° here today. You'd never know it was Fall. It's supposed to be in the low 60s in Oregon. That will be a nice change of pace from the heat we've been having lately.

Big difference a 1,000 miles makes from south to north!
Travel well and enjoy the warmth and fullness of family.
Thanks, Janis
The hardest part of this trip will be getting out of San Diego. Tropical storm Rachel is due to make land fall on Sunday morning a few hours before my flight is scheduled to leave.

I hope Rachael changes her mind
and you enjoy smooth sailing.
I just came across this and it was too good not to post it.
Priceless
I'm not a big fan of AI but sometimes it has it uses.
Thanks for the smile.

Looking forward to some photos of Tillamook
Its been a couple of decades since the last boating trip to fish for salmon in the bay. The weather report indicates a few sunny days mixed in with coastal rain.
Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.
--When the opening appears release yourself.
Hi, SOE
I won't get to Tillamook until late tomorrow afternoon. Monday we will be celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving. There's rain in the forecast for Wednesday and I'm headed home on Thursday so I don't know how much photography I'll get in, but I'll do my best.

Thank you both Sp and jb for the wonderful nature
photos. The roses are simply awesome, and the details in that dandelion are magical. Also thanks for your Mariam Makeba diary, jb. Appreciate humphrey's funny video, AI notwithstanding.
I was going to ask about San Diego and Rachel, Sp? Is your flight still on? Well, leave it to climate change. A tropical storm heading for San Diego? I know the Pacific region has been getting slammed with hurricanes and cyclones. Just look at the Chinese east coast, Japan, and the Phillippines. Xi's regime keeps a tight lid on media, but China has also suffered extreme drought and flooding. And don't forget us here in the GOM region. Hurricane Isaias put a scare into the northern Gulf Coast. My sis in Bay County in the Panhandle reported good news. Power outage of only a few hours and no damage. Pensacola and nearby regions got hit a bit harder, but still dodged a bullet. Whew! We Floridians do NOT laugh at hurricanes! And yes, we get them in October. Well, that's the international storm report for the week. Enjoy your family trip, Sp. Be careful and stay safe, too. Rec'd!!
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
Hi, obf
Right now it looks like my flight will get out on time but I won't know until tomorrow. The weather report says most of the heavy rain and winds will be before my flight leaves which is encouraging. Glad to here your sis dodged the wrath of Isaias.
