Neera: "We can't allow voters to hijack the party"

We’re really getting down to the wire if we want to preserve the democratic party,” said Center for American Progress president Neera Tanden, adding “we can’t allow voters to hijack the party by nominating someone like Bernie Sanders. We’re ready to pull out all the stops to circumvent the will of the people.”

Not only that, but Walter Mondale is thinking of running to stop Bernie from becoming president. John Kerry is also rumored to be stepping down from his lucrative job on BoA to run for president since ByeDone is failing fast and Warren has dropped in the polls since she stabbed her good friend in the back.

Former vice president and 1984 democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale is reportedly considering a bid for president in the 2020 election in an effort to stop Bernie Sanders from becoming the democratic party nominee.

According to sources, Mondale was overheard by reporters as he spoke on the phone saying “call me fucking delusional, but I’m worried that Bernie’s going to pull this off. What would it take, I mean, from a fundraising and logistics standpoint, for me to enter?”

The 92 year old former vice president was badly defeated in the 1984 election, winning only 13 electoral votes to incumbent republican president Ronald Reagan’s 525 electoral votes.

The 2020 democratic primary has seen the entry of a record-setting 29 candidates, and as of March 2nd, all but eleven have dropped out. Democratic party insiders feel that none of the remaining candidates have enough support to decisively beat Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, who’s leading in many early primary polls.

As of press time, BeetPress has confirmed that Walter Mondale, Mike Dukakis, John Kerry, and Al Gore have all announced presidential bids.

This might be satire, but is really outside the realm of possibility?

After all...

"hijack" the party, we should kill it. Crush it out of its cursed existence, and give it the burial it deserves but does not want.

While I know it is all a lost cause, I can still rant! At least until "they" come for me in the dead of night …

Beet Press is a satire site. This is the first I've heard of it, but looking at their current material, they do it well.

What makes the Neera Tanden "quote" such good satire is that it perfectly expresses what she actually thinks.

If you take Tanden's actual tweets and read underneath the layers of snarkiness and personality-disordered nastiness, that's what she's really saying.

"Do you think that democracy is part of the problem? That in a democracy people are always going to vote for more things, they are never going to vote to take them away. Now the payroll tax is down; good luck ever having it go back to the way it was. Good luck with a lot of these things. Is democracy going to be what sends us over the cliff?"

Getting this quotation took me to DK. First time I've clicked on there in a while. It was, in fact, my own essay. Perhaps I should look into getting my stuff off of there. I simply haven't wanted to *be* there at all, so I haven't done it.

As to Erin's question, I have one of my own:

see the tweet I posted with her actual words. And maybe that is exactly what the PTB in the DNC are thinking behind closed door?

I didn't know it was satire until I saw the tag and believed that she had actually said that cuz she pretty much does say that.

1) In what manner is the Jimmy Dore clip "right wing"? Be specific.

2) For reference, here's the signature quote in question:

America is a pathetic nation; a fascist state fueled by the greed, malice, and stupidity of her own people.
- strife delivery

What part of that do you believe is "anti-American", and why?

@Centaurea

It's not "anti-American" in the sense that whoever wrote it is trying to destroy us. If anything, it's "anti-American" in the sense that it's criticizing America as fundamentally morally bankrupt and authoritarian.

I don't exactly agree with strife delivery on this, because I don't think nationalism, or national/tribal culture, is the most helpful lens through which to view our current conditions. I see an international financial arrangement between bankers, big businessmen, and what I loosely call goons: the CIA, MI6, Mossad, yes, but also Blackwater/Xe/Whatever Erik Prince's band of thugs is calling themselves these days, Stratfor, Palantir, etc. That international financial and political arrangement could be called capitalism or fascism, which to me, at this point, look like descriptors for different aspects of the same thing: capitalism now seems to describe the economic and financial workings of this international arrangement, while fascism describes its political and military functions. Or one could use capitalism and fascism in a traditional way, with their traditional meanings, in which case we could debate about which we're living under. But regardless of how we use the terms or which one we think applies, nationalism plays a subordinate role. You might almost see nationalism as one of the fictions the arrangement produces through its media machines to manipulate people.

That's why, though I don't think they know what they're really rebelling against, so many of the right, particularly those of a Brexit or Trumpian sensibility, are styling themselves as defenders of a national culture. They sense that their national culture has been, or is being, digested by a malign influence. Unfortunately for them, they see the source of that malign influence as people from different areas of the globe with different skin colors and different mother tongues than theirs, rather than seeing the source as the City of London (or here, as Wall St.) And for all their talk of black helicopters, they don't see the CIA or MI6 as the source of this nastiness either. At the end of the day, it's all the fault of the nearest handy scapegoat, preferably someone against whom you can activate your racism or xenophobia.

In fact, what actually happening is that the same thing that's destroying the biosphere is also destroying national cultures--blitzing them and then digesting the rubble to fuel itself.

I hate living in system L-374.

being right wing? I would like to know just what it is you object to. As to my signline that I copied from strife delivery who is a member here, but has been absent for awhille. I would like to know what you object to. Can you honestly say that he was wrong?

America is a pathetic nation; a fascist state fueled by the greed, malice, and stupidity of her own people.

Both parties constantly betray their voter and yet people still vote for them time after time when one of them run on saying they will be different from those that came before them and then just ignore that and push the elite's agendas again.

Might want to look into the definition of inverted totalitarianism and see if we are not a fascist country or leaning that way.

As for the rest did you see that I said that this was SATIRE?

your point? @snoopydawg

I have been an active agent for change for several decades. Getting to the core is needed in order to define the rot before one can deal with the malignant, often obscured, source of the problem. As per the old saying about omelets, generating solutions particularly for intrenched normalized skullduggery requires one to expose the warts (as it were) on the face of the issues. I often disrupted the calm, but I was damn effective. And (as is the best revenge) I outlived the bastards.

I wonder if I could have inserted at least one more metaphor / allusion … nah!

There's humor in the pain to acknowledge Jimmie's truth because it is so reveling of corruption, a quality which includes lying, is that he is right. We need lots of things in politics--but the most important is integrity above self.

Hubris should be the name for the Dem Party. Bubble is such a well-descriptive term. Most of the elites think less of you (any of you) than the soil clinging to the soles of their feet. The DNC crowd knows full well the utter corrupt depravity of this virtue-preaching, deed-projecting coterie of self-important persons.

He destroyed the dem's idea that people have nowhere to go if they don't vote for them. Schumer is an idiot to think that any centrist republican would vote for the leftist, socialist, communist democrats. They will vote with the true republican not the democrat that is trying to sit on the fence.

Hope people will take the time to watch it. I would love to post this elsewhere, but...

As for your anti-American sig line, it is my opinion that the essence of being an American is to openly criticize our government.
Bringing it to any and everyone's attention that America really sucks is really our duty as American citizens.
