Today's NYT front page article

on Sanders supporters titled Bernie Sanders and His Internet Army does not appear in any of the front pages of the online "today's paper" editions, the main page or the politics section. I had do a search to find it - and I'm wondering why.

Personally, I think that what they are observing is just the internet itself. Once you get a large enough group of people together - especially a group that has serious grievances - you going to see this sort of thing just because of statistics. I don't think Bernie could say anything to stop it aside from quitting. Which may be what they are trying to achieve.

All traditional corporate media outlets are doing everything they can to cancel Bernie Sanders and the movement his 2016 candidacy sparked. Be prepared for outrageous smears, attack pieces and flat-out lies against both him, but even more so against anyone who supports the policies he promotes.

As opposed to simply discouraging people from supporting him. I was wondering if they were trying to force him to do a Ghandi hunger strike thing.

The targeting also seem interesting: why is it only prominent in the print edition? Are they afraid of the online blowback? There is no comment section, and the print edition is for old guys like me.

It’s almost like they are trying to hide it from the online world - which is why I posted all the links here.

. . . a groundbreaking and probably pivotal primary, jeez, they are in HUGE trouble.

I think MSM has given up on Joe and sees the rest of the candidates, aside from Bernie, as sure losers to Trump. Their ratings will plummet with a Biden vs. Trump contest.

THIS:

online support comes from Russian bots. And yet, it was @HillaryClinton who hired David Brock's army of online trolls to smear Sanders, a fact conveniently ignored. Former (or present) Clinton staff, like Adam Parkhomenko were among the worst. But was Hillary ever asked to

Interesting that Hillary's campaign using Correct the Record trolls which was borderline election fraud is never, ever mentioned. As he points out only Bernie is supposed to keep his millions of supporters in control, but the KHive twits can attack Bernie and his supporters to infinity. It's the F-ing hypocrisy that drives me nuts.

after all, uploaded child pornography to pro-Sanders Facebook pages in 2016 to get the pages shut down. Did the @NYTimes ever demand that Hillary tell those people to stop doing that? Did any news organization? The answer is no. They did not.

that's the Politico headline today

They let him get away with murder': Dems tormented over how to stop Bernie

With Bernie Sanders gaining steam a week before the Iowa caucuses, tormented Democrats are second-guessing what they say was a hands-off strategy against the Vermont senator in the 2020 primary.

and look who's quoted...

Matt Bennett, co-founder of Third Way
Rahm Emanuel
an unnamed member of "Priorities USA, the Democrats’ largest super PAC."
Ben LaBolt, Obama’s former national press secretary
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller

these people are funny. Miller says “I think there's a concern among some, and I think it's fairly widespread, that if Bernie is the nominee he may well lose and take other Democrats down with him.”

As if we didn't notice that Obama won but he and the DNC managed to lose thousands of seats nationwide.

So their 'ignore Bernie and hope he goes away' strategy didn't work, huh?

And now a week before Iowa they finally pull their heads out of the sand and all wonder why they didn't see him coming.

These Dem Establishment operatives are not nearly as bright as they think they are.

right now it's surrogates.

The play (in the sense of drama or comedy, take your pick) will go thusly:

Obama will make a strong statement along the lines of how bad Bernie would be for the party.
Bernie supporters will note that Obama himself weakened the party.
Obama lovers and Hillary lovers will pretend they're shocked by the "attack" on Obama.
"Bernie's not a Democrat" will be the rallying point.

that to start the morning after Sanders wins Iowa. Obama is probably already putting the finishing touches on the Speech That Will Save Neoliberalism.
Then Sanders will win New Hampshire anyway. And all hell will break loose.
Sanders will be vilified for Fracturing the Party When What We Need is Unity. In other words, for winning. Because big wins are divisive, opening a rift between voters and party insiders.
When that doesn't work, and if Sanders manages to win Nevada, we'll see just how far Deep Fake technology has advanced.

the upshot of Hillary's venom is that she looked small. There are still millions of registered Democrats who believe that the party is actually democratic and that the opinions, feelings, and votes of the people matter in the direction of the party. When bigwigs try to suppress that it becomes clearer that "elites" think they run things. And that bothers the innocents. Thus Hillary's popularity, low as it is, gets reduced further to the PUMAs and Obama's would follow....I think.

The Obamas Just Purchased a Martha's Vineyard Mansion for $11.75 Million
The seven-bedroom estate sits on 29.3 waterfront acres.

It's no secret that Michelle and Barack Obama enjoy spending down time at Martha's Vineyard, a quaint Massachusetts island that everyone from the Kennedys to the Clintons has visited. It's been an annual vacation destination for the Obama family since their time in the White House, but now they're putting down roots with the purchase of a gorgeous mansion that they rented over the summer.

According to People, the 6,892-square-foot Martha's Vineyard estate was sold on Wednesday for $11.75 million to a trust. James F. Reynolds, a longtime friend of Barack Obama who also served as a member of his national finance committee during the 2008 presidential election, is named as a trustee on the deed.

The Obamas reportedly purchased the property from Wycliffe Grousbeck, owner of the Boston Celtics, and his ex-wife, Corinne Basler Grousbeck, who bought the home in 1998. The property has been on the market since 2015.

A different view of the property.

The NYT is a disgusting, utterly failed, excuse for a former newspaper. I hope to God Bernie doesn't try to apologize for things his supporters have not done.

This sure would change lickity split if we had a functioning justice system in this country. Hopefully one day we will get the chance to hold people accountable for what they did. " Nice place.
@humphrey
The Obamas will have a front row seat to rising sea levels."

I don't think Obama expects sea level rise to be a problem in his lifetime. Think about it: Obama is not dumb--indeed he is considered famously smart. Would he really saddle his family with a mansion that would be underwater in a couple of decades? The link below is to the NOAA website showing historical tide gauge data for Boston (which is the nearest large city to Martha's Vineyard).

https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends_station.shtml?id=844...

I quote from the info below the tidal gauge graph:
"The relative sea level trend is 2.83 millimeters/year with a 95% confidence
interval of +/- 0.15 mm/yr based on monthly mean sea level data from
1921 to 2018 which is equivalent to a change of 0.93 feet in 100 years."

Assuming this data is accurate, neither Obama nor his children have to fear their Martha's Vinyard retreat being threatened by sea level rise in this century.

From the Vineyard Gazette.

The surge at high tide in the 1938 hurricane “sent 13-foot storm surges into parts of Narragansett Bay and Buzzards Bay. Storm surges washed over nearly every barrier beach in the region and cut many inlets through them,” declared a 2007 report titled, Confronting Climate Change in the U.S. Northeast. On the Island, water surged across the south shore and the ponds and slammed into the village of Menemsha.

FEMA reports: “With major storms like Katrina, Camille, and Hugo, complete devastation of coastal communities occurred. Many buildings withstand hurricane force winds until their foundations, undermined by erosion, are weakened and fail.”

Waves are also growing restless. In her book The Wave: In Pursuit of the Rogues, Freaks, and Giants of the Ocean, author Susan Casey writes that “average wave heights have also been rising steadily, by more than 25 per cent between the 1960s and the 1990s.”

Wind, water and waves trump humans at every turn. More severe storms on the Vineyard will put at greater risk coastal homes, roads, seawalls, bridges, utilities, beaches and salt marshes, boats and marinas, fisheries and aquaculture. A major hurricane will cripple the local economy.

Bernie 2020: Hey, you didn't think this would be easy, did you?

Chris Landsea (NOAA) in 2011 noted “instead of a dramatically increasing trend of hurricane damages, destruction from these storms varies on a decade to decade timescale with more damages in the early 1900s, low damages during the late 1900s to early 1920s, much higher destruction in late 1920s to the early 1960s, and reduced damages from the late 1960s to early 1990s.

Certainly, the U.S. hurricane damages from 1996 to 2005 were quite high, but now it is evident that these were quite similar to the decade of 1926 to 1935. So after straightforward consideration of the non-meteorological factors of inflation, wealth increases, and population change, there remains no indication that there has been a long term pick up of U.S. hurricane losses that could be related to global warming today. There have been no peer reviewed studies published anywhere that refute this.”
