Today's NYT front page article
Submitted by Hawkfish on Mon, 01/27/2020 - 8:54am
on Sanders supporters titled Bernie Sanders and His Internet Army does not appear in any of the front pages of the online "today's paper" editions, the main page or the politics section. I had do a search to find it - and I'm wondering why.
Personally, I think that what they are observing is just the internet itself. Once you get a large enough group of people together - especially a group that has serious grievances - you going to see this sort of thing just because of statistics. I don't think Bernie could say anything to stop it aside from quitting. Which may be what they are trying to achieve.

There is no maybe about it.
All traditional corporate media outlets are doing everything they can to cancel Bernie Sanders and the movement his 2016 candidacy sparked. Be prepared for outrageous smears, attack pieces and flat-out lies against both him, but even more so against anyone who supports the policies he promotes.

I meant specifically quitting
As opposed to simply discouraging people from supporting him. I was wondering if they were trying to force him to do a Ghandi hunger strike thing.
The targeting also seem interesting: why is it only prominent in the print edition? Are they afraid of the online blowback? There is no comment section, and the print edition is for old guys like me.
It’s almost like they are trying to hide it from the online world - which is why I posted all the links here.

Yes to the dodging of online blowback. They know that they
are full of shit. But they have their agenda, and it requires them smearing and lying about Bernie and his supporters. But they are uncomfortable when they are called out on it, which is less likely to happen from hard copy readers only audience.
Twitter is all over it

If this is the best the neolibcons can throw at Bernie before
. . . a groundbreaking and probably pivotal primary, jeez, they are in HUGE trouble.
I think MSM has given up on Joe and sees the rest of the candidates, aside from Bernie, as sure losers to Trump. Their ratings will plummet with a Biden vs. Trump contest.

THIS:
Interesting that Hillary's campaign using Correct the Record trolls which was borderline election fraud is never, ever mentioned. As he points out only Bernie is supposed to keep his millions of supporters in control, but the KHive twits can attack Bernie and his supporters to infinity. It's the F-ing hypocrisy that drives me nuts.
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
pissed off
They're pissed off because they can't just ignore Bernie anymore

Attack of the Bernie Bros.!!! Movie at 9:00
Way to go--attack big part of the democratic party base. Democrats must be the only party in American history to suppress their base.
Sign of a dying party n/t
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

'They let him get away with murder'
that's the Politico headline today
They let him get away with murder': Dems tormented over how to stop Bernie
and look who's quoted...
Matt Bennett, co-founder of Third Way
Rahm Emanuel
an unnamed member of "Priorities USA, the Democrats’ largest super PAC."
Ben LaBolt, Obama’s former national press secretary
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller
these people are funny. Miller says “I think there's a concern among some, and I think it's fairly widespread, that if Bernie is the nominee he may well lose and take other Democrats down with him.”
As if we didn't notice that Obama won but he and the DNC managed to lose thousands of seats nationwide.
Heh. A tormented Rahm Emmauel...
is never a bad thing.
So their 'ignore Bernie and hope he goes away' strategy didn't work, huh?
And now a week before Iowa they finally pull their heads out of the sand and all wonder why they didn't see him coming.
These Dem Establishment operatives are not nearly as bright as they think they are.

The next onslaught ain't going to be pretty

the donkey's asses are going to go into full buck mode.
Ha! Time to get a clue. Resistor party.
They lost it on the last go round.

Kitchen sinks are coming.
The dimwit establishment hasn't even begun to panic. By Friday, if Bernie's poll numbers are not falling, kitchen sinks will start flying. Who knows - maybe by tomorrow!![Shok](https://caucus99percent.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/shok.gif)

we'll know they're desperate when Obama steps in
right now it's surrogates.
The play (in the sense of drama or comedy, take your pick) will go thusly:
Obama will make a strong statement along the lines of how bad Bernie would be for the party.
Bernie supporters will note that Obama himself weakened the party.
Obama lovers and Hillary lovers will pretend they're shocked by the "attack" on Obama.
"Bernie's not a Democrat" will be the rallying point.
I expect
that to start the morning after Sanders wins Iowa. Obama is probably already putting the finishing touches on the Speech That Will Save Neoliberalism.
Then Sanders will win New Hampshire anyway. And all hell will break loose.
Sanders will be vilified for Fracturing the Party When What We Need is Unity. In other words, for winning. Because big wins are divisive, opening a rift between voters and party insiders.
When that doesn't work, and if Sanders manages to win Nevada, we'll see just how far Deep Fake technology has advanced.

Obama will be their
ultimate kitchen sink. That's what THEY think, anyway.

and it won't work with Obama, as it didn't with Hillary
the upshot of Hillary's venom is that she looked small. There are still millions of registered Democrats who believe that the party is actually democratic and that the opinions, feelings, and votes of the people matter in the direction of the party. When bigwigs try to suppress that it becomes clearer that "elites" think they run things. And that bothers the innocents. Thus Hillary's popularity, low as it is, gets reduced further to the PUMAs and Obama's would follow....I think.
If Obama's comin'
at Sanders, he better realize that his future book sales among young people and indeed his very legacy will be impacted:
His hair didn't actually turn gray?

Not saying that at all.
But it's curious you got that out of what I WAS saying!

I just meant that Obama is the kitchen sink
Some comments were about him being thrown into the fray, and you said actual sinks would be thrown, so I just combined them!

Of course Obama will step in. He has to protect his rewards....
Well, it's gonna get interesting
if he decides to step in. He thinks very highly of himself if he thinks he will have any type of significant impact against Bernie. Poor misguided fellow.

First they ignore you....
....you know the rest.
We’re on Step 3 now.
Step 4 will be sooooo sweet for us.
I followed two political forums in 2016
and in both the slander, bullying, hounding, threatening, and mobbing flowed only one way, and that way was from Hilbots onto Bernie supporters. Bernie supporters -- hopeful, idealistic enthusiasts -- got the shit kicked out of them every time they tried to speak their hopes and dreams.
Those two forums are Daily Kos and Democratic Underground, both of which are burnt out shells of what they could have been.
The NYT is a disgusting, utterly failed, excuse for a former newspaper. I hope to God Bernie doesn't try to apologize for things his supporters have not done.
The NYT is preparing a red carpet for Hillary to step in any day now. I hope some genius out there can figure out a safe way to make the Times regret this.

Hillary's attack dawg weighs in
This is the kindest thing I can say about her.
Ms. unity herself is constantly trying to stir up shit.
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Neera certainly fits into the HillaryBros category.
Neera Tanden
Pretty much
If it's not about her it's about Bernie's supporters. I tried reading the Slimes article, but it's just BS and I'm not giving them my time. It's bad, but not as bad as Frum's article from the Atlantic. How is it that people who got hundreds of thousands of others dead feet okay to show their faces in public? This sure would change lickity split if we had a functioning justice system in this country. Hopefully one day we will get the chance to hold people accountable for what they did. I like the idea of pushing guillotines in the streets.

Sea Level Rise and Obama's mansion
" Nice place.
@humphrey
The Obamas will have a front row seat to rising sea levels."
I don't think Obama expects sea level rise to be a problem in his lifetime. Think about it: Obama is not dumb--indeed he is considered famously smart. Would he really saddle his family with a mansion that would be underwater in a couple of decades? The link below is to the NOAA website showing historical tide gauge data for Boston (which is the nearest large city to Martha's Vineyard).
https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends_station.shtml?id=844...
I quote from the info below the tidal gauge graph:
"The relative sea level trend is 2.83 millimeters/year with a 95% confidence
interval of +/- 0.15 mm/yr based on monthly mean sea level data from
1921 to 2018 which is equivalent to a change of 0.93 feet in 100 years."
Assuming this data is accurate, neither Obama nor his children have to fear their Martha's Vinyard retreat being threatened by sea level rise in this century.
Hurricane storm surges on the other hand...
From the Vineyard Gazette.

Re: Hurricane Storm Surges...
Chris Landsea (NOAA) in 2011 noted “instead of a dramatically increasing trend of hurricane damages, destruction from these storms varies on a decade to decade timescale with more damages in the early 1900s, low damages during the late 1900s to early 1920s, much higher destruction in late 1920s to the early 1960s, and reduced damages from the late 1960s to early 1990s.
Certainly, the U.S. hurricane damages from 1996 to 2005 were quite high, but now it is evident that these were quite similar to the decade of 1926 to 1935. So after straightforward consideration of the non-meteorological factors of inflation, wealth increases, and population change, there remains no indication that there has been a long term pick up of U.S. hurricane losses that could be related to global warming today. There have been no peer reviewed studies published anywhere that refute this.”
