We are all deplorables now

Joe Rogan came out for Bernie Sanders and liberals threw a fit because of it.

The campaign's decision to cut a video of Rogan's endorsement and use it divided Sanders supporters.

"I really like Bernie and am disappointed to see the campaign boost Rogan, who has made some very anti-trans comments. I really hope the campaign reconsiders," wrote activist Alexis Goldestein on Twitter, responding to the video posted by Sanders.

The cartoonist Eli Valley tweeted: "Seconded: Rogan can vote for whomever he wants but I don't think the Bernie campaign should be touting a transphobic creep who gives a platform to Nazis."

Personally I would question whether these people were actual "Sanders supporters".
But I think the best response to all of these outraged liberals would be this one.

The amusing part is that it wasn't just liberals that had a meltdown yesterday over Rogan's endorsement. Parts of the right-wing did too.

times.PNG

Recall that Hillary already denounced, not just Bernie, but all of his supporters as well. Now Bernie's supporters will include some Rogan fans, making us all that much more deplorable.

“It is not only him. It’s the culture around him. It’s his leadership team. It’s his prominent supporters. It’s his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women,” said Clinton. “It should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture — not only permitted (he) seems to be very much supporting it.”

From her own words, Clinton regards Sanders as a nasty man running a misogynistic campaign and a political phony whose achievements are nonexistent and who lacks the temperament to be president.

As Clinton describes Sanders, he seems to fit nicely into her Trumpian “basket of deplorables.”

Wealthy liberals hate us. Wealthy conservatives hate us.
Wealthy liberals think we are socially backwards.
Wealthy conservatives think we are stupid.
Neither group cares one lick about our concerns and well-being.

That's how you know we are backing the right candidate.

I’m a liberal and Bernie Sanders is a Democratic Socialist. Both of us have our roots in good old FDR blue collar pragmatism.

Wrong from the word go. FDR was radical, not pragmatic.

What will these people do if Bernie wins the nomination?
They'll be lost. Their world will collapse.

Not quite. FDR was radical and pragmatic, which was the key to his success. This said talent was the key to both ending the Great Depression and winning World War II. This talent was known to have driven Adolf Hitler nuts, as he had no vestige of it.

Just like Hitler's (and Mussolini's and Tojo's) did because of FDR.

The diarist got away with saying lots of things that would have gotten her banned if they were said about Hillary and maybe with the rules back before the 'Great Purge' that many refuse to admit happen.

Today there is a rebuttal diary and boy did the finger waggers come out and say tsshh tsshh! As always it's the effing hypocrisy.

Anyone see my first DCOTN? Dummbest comment of the night.

I have problems with people calling Bernie, Bernie because it seems like people are on a first name basis with him. And yes I had a problem with people who called Hillary, Hillary even thought that was the name she was running on. SMDH

@snoopydawg

You damn dividers!

First let’s get this straight. The way the term “centrist” is being applied today as some kind of put down in our party is absolutely ridiculous. In our nation right now the Overton Window has shifted so far to the right that what used to be mainstream Democratic principles (which were also shared by more reasonable past Republicans) are where the political center is now.

Not paying attention to what is happening to millions of people in this country. You know the ones who can't find $400 for an emergency? Can't find jobs that pay a living wage. Can't find an affordable apartment even though some are working more than 2 jobs. THe millions of people who can't get health insurance and many of the problems that have come about since the democrats moved into the space republicans held when the went insane.

Leaders like Biden, Obama, Clinton, Kennedy, even FDR knew that there was a hybrid relationship that needed to be forged with powerful corporations. That compromise from our leaders (and some past Republicans) helped to make our nation the envy of the world.

Forging relationships with corporations .... there's a word for that right?

Saagar Enjeti uses it that way, too. It's the new "PC" but I think it expresses it better. The idea of political correctness shouldn't be limited to one side or the other. There are millions of Republicans who are "politically correct" in that they are scared to go against the social aspects of their party line. I expected, once Bush Jr. was in, that PC would apply to them but that didn't happen. It continued to be used against Dems and related hangers-on. So in that way "PC" is a misnomer.

But this "woke" thing is much more direct. You can say a lot by saying that one word with a sneer.

@Shahryar on this woke thing.

But on the PC comment, you're right. The Right has been more successful using it as a sword against the Left. Meanwhile, the lazy Left, typically a day late and a dollar short, has usually missed the opportunity to use it against the Right. The Unbearable Whiteness of the GOP for instance, their own unspoken PC test. Wielding the PC sword and shield to defend and cover themselves when enabling/promoting more white folks to power.

PCness by the Right in the speech category -- the way they insist that Ds are unpatriotic for pointing out flaws in This Great Country of Ours or for noting that the Pentagon budget is obscenely high. That would be both unpatriotic and undermining of our National Security.

Can't have any of that -- and Dems politely oblige with their silence. Dems are very good at cowering beneath the covers.

trigger-happy folks in the LGBTQ community are a little too invested in the politics of purity. If anti-trans was a driving force in Rogan's politics, the way race is for David Duke, why would he then not check to see whether Bernie also shares those views? Could it be, is it possible, that Rogan's comments were more about entertaining his (probably) mostly male listeners, a little locker-room macho bravado?

Whatever the extent of sincerity of his actual views, he's a potential convert to that cause and some in that group ought to be more welcoming. With Bernie, with an assist from Rogan, in power, LGBTQ rights are bound to be strengthened, and so it's a win-win for that small trans segment of the country.

Meantime, I hope this backlash from a few doesn't lead to another Bernie Apology. There's probably a quota on apologies in a campaign, and he shouldn't easily give up another so soon with 10 more months to go.

This would make more sense @ezraklein if his supporters didn’t take any instance of working with moderates or the GOP as stabbing the backs of progressives. Purity politics for everyone else isn’t much of a conviction.

EVERYTHING you say, they counter with "what about..."? Shows they really have nothing to say, and believe that during the Sanders administration their pea-headed opinions will be irrelevant. @snoopydawg when Democrats work together with moderates and the GOP against our interests, that is stabbing progressives in the back. And frankly, that’s the only time they do work together. The only people calling that a “purity test” are the ones who can’t pass it.

I never watched The Dukes Of Hazzard, but I always thought of it as being a silly lighthearted comedy about mocking and defying authority while capitalizing on some gratuitous but unthreatening skin. In a similar but more serious vein Hawkeye Pierce's womanizing (a holdover from the original novels, which were very right wing) I saw as a survival mechanism against the anti life of the Korean war, not the show's misogyny. Rogan's comment may be in poor taste, it may even be offensive - especially to someone who has very good reason to be touchy - but it is hardly worthy of total condemnation.

I know next to nothing about Rogan other than the Yang interview which I watched. Rogan seemed like a good interviewer. I know some prominent gun rights folks were on his show but I'm not into gun rights as a thing, though a strong supporter of 2A, so I never watched.

Now I find it taps into this larger thing I've been interested in which is the woke/blue collar split within the D party. I've been noticing that Sanders often speaks of working people in America or phrases to that extent. Again, and again, and again. I don't think it's because Bernie is at a loss for words, I think he wants to push that message, and as a blue collar worker I'm glad. I think the woke/broke divide much larger than R and D, and I think Trump syphoned off tens of millions of voters that in the 50s would have been Dems.

I'm not sure he'll win the primary, but he has always looked to be the strongest in the field, all the others have serious flaws that could easily cause them to lose. I just can't imagine any of the others that are in the top 4 being taken seriously by the electorate. I sure do wish the guy good health.

I maybe first watched him when he interviewed Bernie. He is an excellent interviewer. Since then a great Dr. Cornel West interview, Elon Musk, clips of Yang and Tulsi, Jimmy Dore, Kyle Kulinski, and many folks I have never heard of.

I didn't know who he was until about 6 months ago, so I have not heard anything offensive. Well, he did question Greta receiving the Time person of the year being so young. I wrote in the comments - "Interview Greta!"

I like him. Glad he likes Bernie.
