Monday OT: January 6 is Beans Day
January 6 is day 6 of the Gregorian Calendar year,
Sweetmorn, Chaos 6, 3186 YOLD (Discordian)
And let us not forget 13.0.7.2.12 by the Mayan Long Count
On this day in history:
1066 – The Witan met to confirm Harold Godwinson as King of Engelonde, leading to counter claims, hurt feelings and the Norman Conquest.
1492 – Their Catholic Majesties Ferdinand and Isabella entered Granada, loosing great horror upon the world.
1721 – The Committee of Inquiry on the South Sea Bubble published its findings. A most amusing and educational event, the Wiki summarizes said bubble, in part, thusly:
The South Sea Company (officially The Governor and Company of the merchants of Great Britain, trading to the South Seas and other parts of America, and for the encouragement of fishing)[3] was a British joint-stock company founded in 1711, created as a public-private partnership to consolidate and reduce the cost of national debt. The company was also granted a monopoly to trade with South America and nearby islands,
...
There was no realistic prospect that trade would take place, and the company never realised any significant profit from its monopoly. Company stock rose greatly in value as it expanded its operations dealing in government debt, peaking in 1720 before collapsing to little above its original flotation price;...
a considerable number of people were ruined by the share collapse, and the national economy greatly reduced as a result. The founders of the scheme engaged in insider trading, using their advance knowledge of when national debt was to be consolidated to make large profits from purchasing debt in advance. Huge bribes were given to politicians to support the Acts of Parliament necessary for the scheme.[4] Company money was used to deal in its own shares, and selected individuals purchasing shares were given loans backed by those same shares to spend on purchasing more shares. The expectation of profits from trade with South America was used to encourage the public to purchase shares, but the bubble prices reached far beyond the profits of the slave trade.
-- To clarify, the trade envisioned was to be trade in enslaved persons, and such trade was carried out, but not at all profitably. Today these types of scams are the province of Private Equity Firms, which usually use a pre-existing company as a vehicle for their scams and schemes.
1847 – Samuel Colt landed his first contract to provide revolvers to the US military.
1893 – The Washington National Cathedral was chartered by Congress because you can't have Freedom of Religion without one..
1941 – FDR delivered his Four Freedoms speech, enumerating 4 basic rights that all persons everywhere should enjoy. Perhaps we may yet enjoy them here, but don't hold your breath.

Good Morning
My Bean Day tip is to cook them in an insta-pot (or pressure cooker). I still like to soak my dried beans and pour off the soak water and add more fresh water Then pressure cook for about 4 min. with onions, garlic, even a few peppers. Quick, easy, delicious, and nutritious. Takes about 15 min to build pressure and 15 to lose it, but dried beans in about an hour is not bad.

We used to eat beans almost every day, but now we have them about once or twice a week just to minimize carbs. They are an excellent prebiotic to feed your gut biome. Great crop, easy to grow, and a soil builder too.
Hope all is well on the left coast. Sunny and chilly here today. Nice winter weather really. I'm playing 5,6 pick up sticks today after the wind and rain this past week.
Thanks for the OT.

greembeams
I confess: my favorite bean varieties for "greembeams" (green beans) are those with large seeds, cooked until tender. This take on the vegetable renders higher protein and fat content, and probably more vitamins, too. It's just more nutritious all the way around. Fresh-eating green bean varieties are hybridized versions, crossbred for small seeds, and they're just not as satisfying, at least to me. Organic lines of some of the more legacy varieties of fresh-eating beans, when organically grown, tend to have larger seeds; these are my favorite green beans.

Howdy deadhead. Thanks for the tip and suggestions, I'll
have to see if we can work more of those cultivars into the garden.

Hola lookout. Use an instant pot with pre-soak (in the pot)
here as well. Thanks for suggesting the inclusions - it never occurred to me to throw them into the IP too.

Good morning, el
Spam ...
The California coast sounds inviting this morning, enjoy the fish tacos.
Need to take care of business day; weather is fine, no rain.
Have a good week, everyone.
Hola smiley, the fish tacos were great, though my favorite
species weren't available. We took some house recipe curtido over with us made from assorted garden greens, carrots, jalapeno and onion and had a great dinner. Thanks.

Exactly why no Biden, imo, but thanks all the same.

Happy Bean Day!
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Hola Not Henry, thanks for adding the inimitable Mr. Bean to
the mix.
