HUMANS
-

-

HumanLight is a Humanist holiday created to provide a specifically Humanist celebration during the so-called western world's holiday season. The intended focus of the holiday is on the "positive, secular human values of reason, compassion, humanity and hope". Sadly, this makes it somewhat exclusionary, because many featherless bipeds who are ostensibly members of Homo sapiens lack the ability to feel compassion and many others, while arguably capable of feeling something akin to compassion are seemingly constitutionally incapable of acting upon any such feelings that they may have. For example, psychopaths, sociopaths, and many (most?) corporatists. Perhaps those persons could Join Henry Kissinger in celebrating Nixon'x notorious bombing of the civilian population of Hanoi from December 18th to December 29th and exulting over the 1,600 pointless civilian deaths caused by this petulant temper tantrum

One of 2019’s historical events was Akihito’s abdication allowing his eldest son Naruhito to ascend to the throne, marking the start a new era, Reiwa, in the Japanese calendar.

FWIW, December 23 is also the birthday of Minoru Urayama a.k.a. Minori Urakawa, the cross-dressing protagonist of the manga AKB49: Ren’ai Kinshi Jōrei.

Such ceremonials may make little sense to persons such as I, but they are still important to whole large grups of people and cultures and should therefore be noted.

Any tall building or cliff suffices to create some modicum of space for flying, but the landings suck under the circumstances described. Controlled flight, OTOH requires 2 functioning wings and much more. Here's to successful, happy, stable flights:

"what's it like to be human?" Wish i'd gotten that project off the ground. Oh, well, time takes us all.

Good holiday.

mastery one chooses as to be able to take flight when the opportunity arrives.

Seems most of the rain has passed. Left us with 2.5'...much better than the 4-6" predicted. For the most part it fell gently so not too much run off.

Working on a big pot of chicken soup today to take to an ailing relative in B'ham on Christmas. Tomorrow it is another round of sweet tater treats and a new recipe for coconut treats to take as snacks. Planning on making another bottle of Gluwein too. I like cooking in winter especially when its raining and I'm stuck inside for the most part. Warms the house and the heart.

As to the humanist holiday...it reminds me of the 90's ed reform struggle here in AL. The state school board members keep hollering about the secular humanist taking over our schools. I finally asked them - "Have you ever seen a Humanist Hymnal?...Or meeting house?...Or Temple?...Because I think you are confusing the issue. Let's work on creating schools which benefit all children not religion and ideology." I lost the argument, and our schools were not reformed (in the way which I suggested anyway). I take comfort in the fact I tried. I don't have to regret a lack of effort on my part.

Well all the best to all of you!

@Lookout
other day, (but not like Jam for Alice) and so it is always wet or damp. Today is a non-rainy day, however, so some outside stuff is doable.

Soup, yes. Soup season is upon us, we make ours very thick and heavy on the veggies, except for those using legumes, that is.

Ah yes, the christianistas are somehow oblivious to the fact that lack of constant indoctrination into the prescribed belief system doesn't mean that some proscribed system is taking over. What is it with this neurotic diety of theirs that he needs constant adoration, praise and supplication anyway? You tried, that is all one can ever do.

December 23rd is also the birthday of my first love, and even though we're middle-aged now and haven't seen each other since we were practically children, I still think about her often and every year on her birthday. TJ: wherever you are, I hope you got everything you ever wanted, Happy Birthday, baby.

Wishing everyone at C99% love, light, compassion, and cookies -- all the very best the season has to offer.

@Reverend Jane Ignatowski
Cookies yes! Last week my wife made spritz and pumpkin-chocolate chips, which we shared and devoured already, so yesterday I made good old fashioned shortbread (Mamma's little baby loves shohtning...). We should then stop for dietary reasons, but since she made two types I will probably insist on making either ginger snaps or amaretti before the season is over.

Thanks from all of us for the magnificent good wishes, and the same to you too.

Hey EL! Hope it is all good! The Adrian Belew tunes are great ones. The one with his 11 yr. old daughter is really cool, the one with Bowie awesome. Both with the Belew humor. I saw a Bowie tour, later 70's, with Belew on guitar, blew my mind. There is a good bit of it on youtube. Adrian played with Frank Zappa, Bowie, King Crimson, Talking Heads, and others... Mind blowing genius musician. I saw him solo in a little club in socal once not too long ago. He had five guitars on stands, had them all going doing layers, OMG. 20 feet away. Jorma too, what a monster of musical genius. He and Jack just a few weeks ago live-streamed their end-of-season last show at the Fur Peace Ranch and it was incredible. The guys are upper 70's, and amazing still. Wonder what it was? I saw Hot Tuna in a small club in Hollywood late 70's, they were amazing then, and remain so.

This was the tour I saw, '78... listen to Adrian's guitar in the intro...

Thanks for the tunes...

Sunny here for two days now. Lots to do outside, what with the winds and the eucs. Back home and bac in the campaign saddle. We are all over the place now and working by text and phone and email so that everything can come together by the 6th. Very cool that this can happen. Makes me happy. And the days are getting longer.

Speaking of taking flight and tall objects there is this...

together. Second dry day here too, will get to do some outside stuff, but still wet for other outside stuff.

Thanks for the Karman Vortice article, first ran into them back in high school with regard to, of all things, sports car design, and the knowledge has sort of stuck with me. Back then it was speed, later it was mileage, now it is efficiency; all same-same, get that drag coefficient down without sacrificing interior room, cargo space, maneuverability, etc.
