"The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?" ~Orwell, "1984"
Here is a boat... the Condor Express. I rode this on its maiden voyage. Sometimes it pays to be buddies with guys that have boats. I jumped on in Crescent City CA at the OR border, they said it was brutal out there between the shipbuilder in Bellingham WA to where I got on, then it was nice for four days to home port in Santa Barbara, CA. We clocked it at 50 mph with satellite. Was a catamaran, with four 750 horse jet (water) drives, could stop so fast you could throw people off the bow. I ran a bunch of charter deepwater far offshore trips off the edge of the continental shelf for Albatross on it. The jets killed the prop whine so we could get next to whales in ways you can't if you are prop whine. The original owner (my buddy) passed away, but I imagine it is still running whale trips out of Sta. Barbara. I forget capacity, maybe 150 or so, be we ran it with a third of that for long-distance deepwater trips so plenty of space for birder's gear. I took this pic as it pulled into Crescent City Harbor. I had used a guys radio at the dock to call them about an hour ahead of meeting time. They guy is listening to me talk to Capt. Fred and Fred says
we are just north of St. George Rock, be there in 20 minutes. The old crusty deck hand after I hung up said "ain't no boat that can get here from there that fast". I said "wait until you see this one". He thought I was full of it of course. Should have seen his jaw hit the deck when this pulled in for me. I am sure no one in Crescent City had seen one.

No boats here. But, I went to Dollywood this past Thursday. First time I have been during this time of year. They have a "Harvest Festival featuring Great Pumpkin LumiNights". My phone camera does not like taking pics of lights in the dark, so I don't have a lot. But, it was so amazing, it made me feel like a kid again. "Ohh, look over there!"
I fell in love with this little guy. Just so stinkin' cute!
And time for the lights...
That's all, folks.
Strange summer and fall on the "father of waters" which is still amazingly at flood stage. Wisconsin's on the other side of Lake Pepin. That little burg was the birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Picture taken during a traffic delay on 61—a beautiful road that follows the Mississippi all the way to Louisiana.
