Establishment Dems and DKos looking to take down Tulsi again

Markos' web site really, really, really hates Tulsi Gabbard.

tulsi_2.PNG

This isn't the first time that the GOS endorsed a primary challenge to Gabbard.

Selection_012_3.png

Let's also recall that this isn't the first time that the GOS announced that Gabbard was beatable.
Selection_011_11.png

So how did DKos' primary challenge go?

Selection_010_16.png

Crushed!
But this time Markos has the entire Democratic establishment onboard the "Get Tulsi" project.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) faces a tough primary challenge if she decides to run for reelection to Congress, even as she struggles to gain traction in her presidential campaign.

Three former Hawaii governors are supporting Democratic state senator Kai Kahele in his primary race against Gabbard, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports. Ben Cayetano, Neil Abercrombie, and John Waihee have endorsed Kahele and will serve as honorary co-chairs for his campaign.

Abercrombie and Waihee headlined a fundraiser for Kahele last week, according to an invitation obtained by Politico.
...
Although her campaign has added a few staffers, it is "largely operating outside typical Democratic and progressive circles," according to Politico.

"I have no contact with her or her campaign. I don’t even know anyone that’s working with her or her campaign," said Jane Kleeb, chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party.

"I think for a while she was a darling of the progressive movement," Kleeb added. "And then anybody I know, any leader I know, just thinks she’s weird."

Three former Hawaii governors, other Dem politicians, and the establishment media are all out get Tulsi. That's a lot of enemies.

tulsi1_0.PNG

So now the first poll came out, and it didn't look good for Tulsi.

tulsi2_0.PNG

Two out of three Democratic primary voters in Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District say U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard should give up her presidential aspirations, according to a new survey released Tuesday by Public Policy Polling.

The poll also found that at least half of the voters in Gabbard's district would prefer someone else in her House seat.
...
One of the more concerning numbers for Gabbard is that 50% of Democratic primary voters said they would prefer to vote for someone else in the upcoming CD2 election.

“Tulsi Gabbard’s constituents don’t want her in the White House in 2021. And it looks like they may not want her in the US House anymore then either.”
- Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling.

Yes, it looks very bad for Tulsi...for the first 11 paragraphs of this article.
Then, only after scrolling all the way down this article, do you find this:

In a head-to-head primary match-up, the poll found voters still preferred Gabbard over Kahele 48% to 26% with 27% still undecided.

Oh, so Tulsi is only crushing her opponent by 22 points!
Yep, it's all over for Tulsi. Better pack it in. Sheesh!

A few pollsters are shameless about their herding. One of them is Public Policy Polling (PPP), a polling firm that conducts automated polls for both public consumption and for liberal and Democratic clients.

Take a look at this exchange, for example, between The New York Times’ Nate Cohn13 and PPP’s Tom Jensen. Cohn discovered that in 2012, the racial composition of PPP’s polls was correlated in an unusual way with President Obama’s performance among white voters in their surveys. If Obama was performing especially poorly among whites in one PPP poll, it tended to have a higher share of nonwhite voters, which boosted Obama’s result. And if Obama was doing relatively well among whites, PPP projected less nonwhite turnout, keeping his lead in check. As a result, PPP’s polls tended to show an unusually steady race between Obama and Mitt Romney.

I’m picking on PPP for a reason: They’re the biggest herders in the business.

And they hate Tulsi. What. A. Surprise.

27% undecided is not 27% preferring to vote for someone else. This is another case of someone writing something hoping nobody will notice and that the "summary" will work its magic.

@Shahryar

27% undecided is not 27% preferring to vote for someone else

If that 27% vote Green and/or Libertarian, Tulsi still wins by a big margin.
Which is a huge accomplishment when your own party is trying to kneecap you for not being a warmonger.

@gjohnsit

this is the primary, not the general, so those 27% will vote for a Democrat or not at all.

Assume it follows the 48-27 split (and these usually do, at least close enough to say they follow the decided voters) that would end up with Tulsi getting 64%.

Jane Kleeb, chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party thinks Tulsi is weird. Of course, "I have no contact with her or her campaign. I don’t even know anyone that’s working with her or her campaign" says more about Kleeb than Gabbard.

When they gotta go to Nebraska for quotes, they're grasping at straws and plowing the wrong field.

@edg I believe she was one of the guest analysts on RT America on election day 2016. You know, it seems that if some member of the official establishment does not like Tulsi, they should just shut up as what they say as officials gets used by the right wing to smear democrats.

Yeah, FWIW, I was on DK for about three months before getting the "Bojo" about two weeks after posting a positive diary about Tulsi. I checked, and looks like the same thing happened with like 6 or 7 other people since Tulsi announced in February. It doesn't seem to be a coincidence that, at DKos, it seems you can post any smear versus Tulsi but utter one bad word against one of their favorites, i.e. Miss "I used to be a top tier candidate" Kamala Harris, and out you go. For a so-called "progressive" forum, they don't seem to take too well to people exercising their right of free speech, at least in terms of the way they selectively censor people, yet Tulsi does outpoll many of the other second tier people even in DK's own straw polls.

@JCWeb

Remember any criticism of Her last election meant that you were a sexist and misogynist and "there is a special place in hell for any woman who doesn't vote for Her." But once Tulsi declared those rules went out the window before she got done speaking. The things they said about her were jaw dropping. Tulsi as a member of congress and the military was smeared to the 9th degree. A Russian puppet. Vlad's little helper. Assad lover... and worse and not many people got called out for what they said. Jaw dropping indeed. And whoboy did she get shit for repeating "Russian talking points about Kambama's history". Everything Tulsi said was not true even though all one has to do is search her history. BTW. Willie Brown is not endorsing his once lover Kambama. Guess who he thinks should jump into the race? Yep...Hillary!

I'm pretty sure that I read your diary there since I like to see who is supporting Tulsi, but I think most of them have been run off the site since I haven't seen any positive comments on her in some time.

@JCWeb And pointing out Russiaphobic comments. They definitely impose "content censorship" regardless how politely you may push back.

It seems that the more some blogger, web site, etc. could be said to be part of the democratic party sphere they more they hate Tulsi. I was surprised that TYT would go after her, and looks like some popular liberal youtuber David Pakman also has gone after her. Every major network news outlet hates her.

I am still wondering what exactly she did to generate such hatred. The only thing I can think of is her renunciation of the DNC in 2016. There is Syria but Pelosi also visited Syria before her.

They despised Tulsi long before she blew up Kambama's campaign. But it went downhill from there. A lot of it has to do with her talking to Assad. And Trump. Of course they repeat the talking points about her not calling him a dictator and the other stuff she has debunked numerous times. But her talking to Trump means that she isn't a real democrat for some reason. Lots of people from both parties get to be in administrations so I don't know why it was such a big deal to them. Boy just imagine what they'd say about her if she tanks Warbama's campaign! lol

Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?

@snoopydawg anything to do with its genesis. Don't even mention Israel's role in this to them. ISIS didn't exist until 2011, when the "humanitarian warriors" in the White House unleashed NATO to knock off Ghadaffi, and then coordinated the Qatari C-17 airlift and a flotilla of looted Libyan missiles along with thousands of recently out of work Jihadis from Eastern Libya, Iraq and the rest of the Sunni world to wage war in Syria.

To the Jihadis, of course, it was Holy War. So was it to the New Cold Warriors in the NSC.

The break-up of Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey, along with creation of ISIS and the Caliphate in the Levant and a Greater Israel were, of course, the outcome that had been expected since Bernard Lewis redrew the Sykes-Pichot map of the Mideast and Foreign Policy published it in 1992 as "Rethinking the Middle East" (see map below), an enterprise carried out literally by Perle, Feith, Wurmser, and Co. These same Pentagon planners, who ran the notorious Office of Special Plans (OSP) at Donald Rumsfeld's Pentagon -- where they traded classified Iraq War plans and falsified Iran nuclear documents with the Mossad Chief of Station -- were the authors of the "A Clean Break" document presented to Benjamin Netanyahu in 1997.

Lewis deserves more credit as the intellectual fountainhead of Neoconservatism and its lite brands. He is the one who brought together three forever wars: the Cold War, the Arab-Israel wars, and what he first termed in 1955, "the Clash of Civilizations" between the Judeo-Christian West and Islam.

They are upset that Trump is doing what he is in Syria, but never mention that he wouldn't be doing it if Obama hadn't tried overthrowing Assad in the first place. People keep saying that the Kurds fought against ISIS with us, but never mention our role as well as our allies in creating them in the first place. There is never any mention of Obama's brutal coup in Ukraine either or the nasty Nazis we support. The tribal blindness is just incredible.

Party regulars and Cold War Democrats, but simply too far ahead of them to be understood for what he would come to represent: the Democratic leader of the Anti-war Movement. If Tulsi hangs in there, and Trump goes over the edge into Iran, she will catch fire, just as Gene McCarthy did. She's the only candidate who has any real credibility to lead the Democrats against an Iran War. The rest are NeoCon Lite.

Here's an interesting article about where Gene was in 1967: https://foreignpolicy.com/2011/12/02/when-democrats-became-doves/

When Democrats Became Doves
With the GOP candidates eager to call Obama weak-willed on foreign policy, it's worth looking at how Democrats got stuck with this tag.
BY MICHAEL COHEN | DECEMBER 2, 2011, 7:28 PM

Forty-four years ago this week, the senior senator from the state of Minnesota, Eugene McCarthy, stepped to a podium in the Senate Caucus Room and transformed the Democratic Party. Angered by the war in Vietnam and his belief that President Lyndon Johnson would "set no limit to the price" he was "willing to pay for a military victory," there McCarthy announced his intention to challenge the incumbent president of his own party in four presidential primaries.

McCarthy didn’t even bother to declare he was seeking his party’s nomination — after all, in the fall of 1967 everyone knew that Johnson was practically a shoo-in to be the Democratic presidential nominee in 1968.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the Democratic Convention in Chicago. McCarthy didn’t end the war, but he ended Johnson’s political career and in the process heralded the shift of the Democratic Party from Cold War hawks to anti-war doves. By creating a political opportunity for Democrats, opposed to the war in Vietnam, to directly engage in the electoral process McCarthy helped change the way that all political leaders — Democrats and Republicans — talk about national security policy. No longer could national Democrats ignore liberals skeptical of American power; and Republicans were given a renewed opportunity to cast Democrats as a party beholden to their anti-war base. Quite simply, McCarthy’s quixotic presidential bid is the gift that keeps on giving.

@leveymg Johnson's political career -- Lyndon did that with his decision to go into VN. He wasn't scared off of running again by GMc and his exc showing in NH. He knew he could beat the mercurial and rather lazy McC head to head in a contest for the nomination.

LBJ was scared off by his continued slide in the public opinion polls. And by Bobby getting into the race, the candidate who posed the real political threat.

That said, McC's late 1967 entry into the race did indeed bring sharp focus to Johnson's disastrous war policy. But as McC hinted when he made his peculiar announcement, it was always far more about putting VN on the front burner of public discussion in 1968 rather than winning the nom.
