Welcome to Saturday ...

On the Beach ~ Victor Laredo, WPA

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. ~ Harold Prince

Broadway Legend Hal Prince — Winner of 21 Tony Awards — Dies at 91

The Broadway community is mourning the loss of Harold "Hal" Prince, the producer and director behind some of the American musical theatre's biggest hits

During his seven-decade career, Prince was known for shepherding some of the most groundbreaking shows to hit Broadway, including The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, West Side Story, Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Company, Sweeney Todd, and the Great White Way’s longest-running musical, The Phantom of the Opera.

Prince was awarded properly, taking home 21 Tony Awards — more than any other individual in multiple categories. https://people.com/theater/hal-prince-obituary/

Thank you for the memories and rest in peace, Hal Prince.

adding content, a little late rising this morning.

Good morning, everyone. Took longer than i expected to make a few selections from Prince's works as i got swept up in music and memories, "not going left, not going right," just listening.

Watched the fog burn off to light, pale blue morning skies. Hope the day greets and sings to you all.

Woke enough? The cover of the new summer issue features three activists posing underwater instead of models, but the women are still nude

The young nurses/aides at my pulmonary rehab had a big laugh a couple of weeks ago when i said "i was off to get woke."

As to playboy and Penthouse, as a young man, i recall being most interested in John Updike's writing.

Thanks for the link and have a great day.

@lotlizard But hey, Gillette did great with that tactic recently, so... have fun with that.

But hey, different era, and apparently the young and rich thing to be (Because let's be honest, playboy was always "Life styles of the Rich, White, and Horny") is very woke and very interested in things other than sex. However, of course, how you have sex is the MOST important thing, not actually enjoying it or anything. But here's a huge checklist so you can find your identity with ease.

Personally, I'm just laughing. Print, and especially corporate print, hasn't been relevant for decades. They got rid of all the people who would actually challenge the status quo, and instead put up a show of folks who look just like you but happily spout the party line. Complete with articles written by lobbyists.

I'm completely happy being an extremely boring guy on that subject. I don't need to be represented because frankly, it's none of anybody's business unless they actually wanna get involved. In that case there's paperwork and testing involved. Smile

version of the right piece by somebody can wind up taking surprisingly long, especially if you try not to include any that interrupt the music for ads. I was never a big fan of Broadway musicals, so maybe this is my chance to get up to speed.

We get a free drop off of up to 125# of e-waste, recyclables and specified non-recyclables and household hazmat today, so I'm going to try to get there early, on the way to farmers' market. It's my week to cook dinners and I have no planned menus beyond Sunday.

Our old small, portable, gas grill died so we/I splurged and replaced it with a Weber Q2200, which is a whole new game so I've been cooking on it all week for breakfast and lunch and will no doubt continue net week plus dinners. Unfortunately, I have to go get lab work done Monday am, so I have to use the weekend to try to get my numbers in order, which is quite a restriction, because one doesn't really grill things like oatmeal and brown rice. ;-( Ah well, I still get to go crazy Monday after the tests thru Saturday. We have another week camping coming up later in the month, and I want to have a lot of dishes and skills perfected by then. Plus, this unit has a temp gauge and goes above 500, so it could be the perfect way to make pizza, cakes and bread on days when it is too hot to fire up the oven.

Have a great one.

@enhydra lutris
good morning.

Yeah, just choosing which productions to feature of Prince's is a task, so many great ones, then which song and as you say, what rendition that's available on the tubes. In the end, it was the memories that really slowed me down, old brain getting caught in the fog.

Got a deal on new tires in TN. There were 2016 model tires, but new and for about half their original price, mission accomplished.

Considering a purchase of a new Coleman tent large enough for mattress, small table and chair inside; not sure it's in the budget; but i did purchase a new 9' 3-weigh fly rod as it was also on sale and i've been eyeing it for some years. Like a hole in the head, have and have had many four weights, this is my first three. May slip out this afternoon and go to an easy drive up to spot and try it out.

Happy grilling!

Wrapping around my world this weekend is the world's longest yard sale. Over consumption in mass display...
https://rainonatinroof.com/highway-127-yard-sale-worlds-longest-yard-sale/

Trade day was pretty slim this morning as a result, but found some $1 avocados. We've been dry and dusty, so I hosed off my little GEO Tracker at the car wash too (for a quarter). There's been the spotty summer afternoon showers around us, but we missed them all. It should be our turn soon.

Finally got my 12 ft posts in the ground (3 ft deep) around the garden and all the old poles pulled. Ready for bracing and 2 rounds of fencing 5 ft and 4 ft (9 ft total height). So, as usual the chores are endless but progressing nicely.

Thanks for the music and the OT!

Good morning, Lookout, recall reading about the highway once, but maybe it's in TN, don't recall.

Digging post holes, hard work in the heat, glad that's done. Used to put up fencing with my old Hawaiian college buddy, we got the Sear's contract sales. Made good money, but tough work, lots of funny memories; one of getting bound, rounded up in a chain link portion when a come-a-long let go by mistake.

Imagin you're eating well from the garden, fruits of your labor.

A quarter car wash, terrific, brings a smile.

Have a great day and week and happy music.

Smiley7, all those musical (almost all) I remember from years ago, and they make me a little teary. Thank you so much.

Now I learn about Harold Prince, the man behind it all and I have a real reason to cry. Darn it, I love you for your Saturday Open Threads. Cray 2

So, for those, who know as little about Harold Prince as I did, you can watch this on your PBS tonight at 10 pm (lucky you):
Harold Prince Documentary Will Be Rebroadcast on PBS Tonight - Prince died on July 31 at the age of 91. - Author: David Gordon - Locations: Broadway August 02, 2019

Of course, I ask myself now, am I Anita (I want to be in America) or the Fiddler's wife (did I love him?) and the pain of parents with their kids- look at this clip:
which makes the musical comedy 'Side by Side' right behind a hilarious joke. Oh, the pain.

And the tricky Master of Cabaret Joel Grey and Lotte Lenya, only in Berlin - right? I was still in highschool when I listened to them.

All of it makes me want to have my own website with all the stuff gathered my way. Well may be I make it before I am 91.

Thank You Smiley. Your Open Threads are a phenomenon.
A wonderful day to you and all who pass by here.

Apparently police officers are now trained to employ deadly force when approached by a dog the size of a toaster. If any dog-rounds penetrate people, well, that's too bad, because "officer safety."

Also "too bad," sneered The Klansman, was the burglary of Elijah Cummings' home. Because The Klansman is a beerwolf who delights even more than Phalaris in the suffering of those who will not kiss his bigly.

Up to me, no guns for anyone, even hunting seems absurd now, though i grew up doing it on the farm.

Deep trouble we know this society lives in and i loathe to think on future if the giant rudder
isn't turned. it's hell for so many as it is; war, be done with war and its machines of the mind and reality.

Thanks for the tragic link, a reminder that there is much to do before we sleep and peace comes.

gun is a sickness, and it will be gone when people decide to get well.

There are many places on the planet where the gun is an aberration, rather than the norm. Eventually it will all be like that. Until finally there will be but one gun in all the world; it will be in a museum. People will file by, look at it, and wonder: what were they thinking?

The Americans are particularly sick with guns because the gun was key in their conquest of the dirts that became their nation. Which occurred only very recently. Having reached the geographic limits of their country, but still lusting for the gun, they now turn the gun on each other. And on themselves.

@hecate Just a typical day in the U.S.A. There's an active shooter at the Walmart in El Paso, TX--it looks like quite a few people have been shot. The shooter appears to have had an AK-47.

important thing is the guns were not injured.

Everywhere among the Americans it is now the OK Corral. And/or the Alamo. (The Walmart hemorrhoid said to be yet another chan-klan Great Replacement castrato, this one mewling about "the Hispanic invasion of Texas.")

As Badlands is the national anthem.

It's a sad day, especially in Texas and Ohio; we protested and sang "four dead in Ohio," time calls for a refrain.

Thanks for being here.

Got my hands full with chores and business paperwork today, but, the video below came to my cell phone, and I just had to share it.

[Woman walks into animal shelter asking for 2 dogs with the most special needs, then adopts them. Leslie Sacks adopted two elderly dogs after walking through a North Carolina humane society’s front doors and asking for the two dogs with the most special needs.]

Mixed Boxer Brutus' story made me cry--severe separation anxiety was one of our dear Mister B's afflictions (he's my C99 Avatar). I so badly wanted to establish a 'foundation' to assist pet owners willing to adopt these dogs, since there is a good deal of extra expense required in taking care of them. For instance, they have to have a pet sitter, or, be day-boarded. They cannot be left alone, period. Some--like 'the B'--require maintenance drugs for a lifetime. Anyhoo, I lacked the know-how and/or connections to accomplish it.

Maybe one day . . . Smile

At any rate, much like your OT's Smiley, I very much found the kind lady's actions (the one who adopted them in Asheville) to be super uplifting.

Here's a link to the story.

Woman walks into animal shelter asking for 2 dogs with the most special needs, then adopts them

An excerpt,

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - A woman adopted two elderly dogs after walking through a North Carolina humane society’s front doors and saying, “which two dogs have been here the longest, with the most special needs?”

A woman adopted two dogs, Sam (R) and Brutus, after walking through a North Carolina humane society’s front doors and saying, “which two dogs have been here the longest, with the most special needs?” (Photo Courtesy: Asheville Humane Society)

Sam, a 7-year-old female shepherd mix, had extensive medical issues and was with the adoption center for 6 months, after being adopted and then returned, the humane society said.

“She had several ongoing medical issues and a severe skin condition,” the adoption center said. “She was actually missing most of her hair when she first came to us! Sam would require lifelong medications and a special diet.”

Brutus, a 13-year-old male Boxer mix, has severe separation anxiety and was with the center for 5 months. He was originally surrendered to be euthanized at 13 years old.

Hey, this story made my day--what can I say? Biggrin

It's sweltering, here, and going to be worse early next week. (We were slated to make a 700-mile road trip, but, may put it off, since it could be risky if there was any kind of car trouble. I'm still a pretty tough ol' coot--but, one thing I can't take, is extreme heat.
Same with Mr M. Plus, Kaity already suffers from motion sickness, and has to be medicated two hours before she travels in a vehicle. (Hopefully, she'll grow out of it. But, there's no guarantee of that.) Anyhoo, Wishing everyone relief from the heat, if they can find it.

Gotta run, and walk the Pup. As usual, most afternoons (lately), we have the threat of T-storms. Don't know what I'd do without Accuweather's MinuteCast! Smile

Everyone have a nice rest-of-your-weekend!

And it still hurts.
Just a miserable experience. After I finish my prescription of antibiotics, I will go back to the dr. if my foot is still read and swollen.
I have seen 6 of the musicals listed, and several of them were done by Houston Grand opera. That really made the vocals compelling.

Thanks for the wonderful OT and the great videos. (I opened the Saturday box and it was empty. It escaped. Heh.) Off to meet with councilor about saltwater intrusion in Beach Flats and other stuff, 8:30a. Hope you got to try your new rod. And that your ski buddy is aok. Here, still a lot of beauty hanging out. Foggy mornings now, sometimes dripping fog. Another busy day ahead and then a busy week. But let's all remember to stop every so often for a wow-what-an-amazing-world we live in.
