Alrghty now class, It's Jerry Day, for Jerome John "Jerry" Garcia (August 1, 1942 – August 9, 1995), one of those who truly was a legend in his own time. A talented multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter who was comfortable in a great many genres. Merl Saunders (IIRC) said that it was amazing how, when confronted with any piece in any style, he always knew just what to play.

He will be celebrated on the Official (he would've loved that) Jerry Day celebration at some other time and place and perhaps here too (who knows), but this is the real mcCoy.

I remember....

.... exactly where I was when I found out. The impact was the same as that of JFK's death (which I also remember exactly where I was and what I was doing), the announcement of the Pearl Harbor attack (decades before my time) or the Challenger disaster.

I miss him every day.

It is fitting that "Jerry Day" be celebrated on August 1, Jerry Garcia's birthday, rather than the anniversary of his death on August 9. In my humble opinion, we should be celebrating Jerry's life and what he did with it that did so very much for all of us.

That August 1 is the Pagan Holiday of Lunasa (Lughnassadh) is a bonus, too!
