IIRC the Elements was the periodic table set to "I am the Very Model of A Modern Major General". Which was a lot of fun. Of course the only part I really remember of that is "These are the only ones of which the news has come to Haaaarvard.... and there may be many others but they haven't been discovaaaard..."

the major general of the original G&S effort was based on the character and career of Field Marshal Viscount Wolseley. He achieved fame and rank serving in the various little wars of Victoria's reign.
