Friday Photography - Making Tracks

Evening all, I’m posting early as I have to leave in a few. I’ll be back later in the day and look forward to catching up with you then.

Next Friday I’ll be on my way to America, the land of the …, but will be back to the POT a week or two later. Cheers all.

A lot to be said for black and white pics and films.

@HenryAWallace

I have always experienced black and white photography to best portray the quality of light. Although it’s possible in colour to achieve that, I find that sometimes colour distracts because it makes shape colour the feature instead.

how can a white sheet for a curtain hide something behind it in the pitch dark light.

to wonder at the mystery of things ; ).

If you look really closely you’ll see a slightly lighter column down the right side of the photo. That is the right edge of the kachelofen.

Absolutely wonderful photos, Janis. I don't know which one I like more, the first one or the last one.

A few bee shots from the Balboa Park rose garden.

When I offer to wash your back in the shower, all you have to say is yes or no.
Not all this "who are you, and how did you get in here?" nonsense.

@Socialprogressive To bee or not to bee. Great bee photos! They are hard to shoot, but these Euro honeybees are much slower and easier to photo than most of the native bees which seem to be on crack at the flowers they move so fast. Were any named Eric?

If you do find yourself visiting NZ, I can confidently offer you the opportunity to visit bees, as my neighbour keeps them.

I too can't decide whether the first or last is my favourite.

Looking forward to it.

That third shot Janis. Is that the same window covering from last week? Good stuff as always.

No, it's the second temporary solution to a broken shade in need of repair. The first was an immediate attempt to retain the heat of the fireplace adjacent to it, and this version is a more visually satisfying replacement.

I looked at it more than once and thought it was a cave drawing w Adida footprints beside it, LOL.
But it really caught my eye!

"... a cave drawing w Adida footprints ..."

I hadn't thought Adidas, but ancient drawings/carvings were what came to mind when I saw that. The contrast of the ancient and modern that you perceive is funny and appreciated.

The water streaks in the sand were very long, and I can set the format of my camera in 4 different versions. This setting is a long and narrow one. Had I used the square format that I mostly use, I’m sure the proportions of the impressions would have looked quite different. It made me think that the square, which is the format I feel most comfortable using, is the most harmonious. But since I wanted to capture the long flowing lines I chose the long format.

in comparison to what i'd thought was a wee and lonely-looking child's white sneaker toward the top. but the rivulets made a remarkable pattern in the sand.

I went to the state duck blind at Hamlin Marsh. It sad to see how much damage the local kids have done to it. The DEC doesn't seem to care that it's being used for hookups and drug dealing. Once school is out they'll be illegally camping down there again.

The secondary runway at Hancock Airport was being used. So landing planes were flying over the house I used to live in, and planes taking off were flying over the house I live in now.

@boriscleto Love yer Iris, and the Wood Thrush. I like the 'rusty gate' description of their song, many birders consider it their favorite bird song. E-oo-layyyyyyyy. Miss hearing them. Neat juvenile Robin (last shot) too. Your planes are nice as well. One of these weeks I will do some planes...

I especially enjoy the contrast in line and light of the shapes. In a way they seem to be a little like drawings to me.

The last photo very much resembles the Nikau palm here.
