Bernie Goes Bold
I say it is a very good thing, indeed, that Bernie Sanders speaks his truth about Socialism. now. That he tells Americans how they've been asset stripped by deregulation, by greedy corporations chasing cheap labor in Asia, by tax cuts for the rich that never create good jobs, and by the crushing costs of unnecessary wars that create fabulous wealth for the war profiteers — while leaving them with the entire bill. He's expectedly to boldly explain to the nation what Socialism means, and give the American people some time to think about how much their lives could improve in a nation that puts the well-being of the People first.
The Vermont Senator will make this clear during a Wednesday afternoon speech at George Washington University, where he plans to defend so-called 'Democratic Socialism,' calling it the only path to ending "authoritarianism" and oligarchy.

He will also argue that now that the U.S. has guaranteed civil rights for all, the next step is economic rights, including guaranteed health care coverage, a clean environment and the right to “as much education as one needs to succeed in our society.”
“We must recognize that in the 21st century, in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, economic rights are human rights,” he will say, according to excerpts provided by his campaign. “ This is what I mean by democratic socialism.”

According to Bloomberg, Sanders is focused on the steadily growing wealth gap that shrunk the middle class and imposed crushing austerity on tens of millions of low income workers. Sanders is calling for a series of socialist programs as well as more regulation governing consumer and environmental protection, while taxing the wealthy to pay for it.
Sanders on Wednesday will compare himself to Roosevelt, saying: "Over eighty years ago, Franklin Delano Roosevelt helped create a government that made huge progress in protecting the needs of working families," and "Today in the second decade of the 21st century we must take up the unfinished business of the New Deal and carry it to completion. This is the unfinished business of the Democratic Party and the vision we must accomplish."
Sanders plans to double-down on Socialism as he trails former Vice President Joe Biden by more than 15 points on average, according to RealClear Politics - although Biden's popularity has taken a hit over the last four weeks amid negative headlines over the Hyde Amendment, plagiarism and allegations of nepotism.

Bernie Sanders has a vision. Over the decades, he has carried it all the way to the end zone. He knows Socialism is the best way for the American people to achieve economic security and get a chance to make a better future for themselves. The 25 most successful developed nations in the world all base their economies on Democratic Socialism. They live more economically secure and happier lives than most Americans do. They even produce a respectable number of millionaires per capita.
Let the People compare what Bernie brings to what the Neoliberal Duopoly has to offer. They stand on the sidelines wringing their hands saying, "We can't pay for that! Where are you going to get the money?" while their Big Doner's glare at them menacingly. Of course we can afford it. And so much more! Just kick the corporate parasites to the curb. And never again vote for a politician who accepts corporate money.
Sander's is running for President because he has the solution and he's ready to deploy it on day one. He's not running for President to live in the White House, or make the Democrat's boogyman go away. He wants to give the people a better way and a better life and a better future. He's the man with the vision — and he intends to lead the way without delay.
The rest of the 2020 Democrats, meanwhile, are scoffing at Sanders:
Senator Elizabeth Warren has rejected the term, socialism, saying she embraces capitalism with rules to protect the working class.
While campaigning in Iowa last weekend, Warren laughed when she was told Sanders would argue the only way to address authoritarianism and oligarchy is democratic socialism.
“I haven’t heard the speech yet, if that makes sense to you that that’s the only way,” she told reporters. “I’ll have to hear the speech.”
Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, another Democratic contender, said in an interview she rejects the label, favoring a free-market system that has improved “checks and balances” like better anti-trust enforcement.
“We are the Democratic party and my own belief is that our nation is strong when we have an economy that works for everyone, and that means not stifling entrepreneurship,” she said.

Time will tell if Bernie's gambit pays off. The last presidential candidate who was scoffed at by his competitors ended up in the Oval Office.

We've got half a million homeless children and adults roaming the streets and we broke all records for suicide deaths this year. Plus we have the world's largest incarcerated population being brutalized, beaten, and killed in private prisons, denied their medications and dying in their cells. People can see what's what.
Lots of people are touched by the US dystopia. But this time they have a real choice, and they have nothing to lose. The elite are out of touch in their bubble. They didn't see Donald Trump coming last time. They won't see what's coming this time, either. And this time, the real election meddlers are under investigation and out of commission.

Looking at the converse situation, if Bernie doesn't go loud and proud with the S-word he looks like an old white dude dropping the same policy buzzwords as the rest of the pack.

Guess it was a good thing after all that he went on Fox. Warren said that she couldn't do it because it would look like she agrees with their views. Free market capitalism is killing jobs here
Sure, Amy a free market sounds good in theory, but when big corporations get a hand up to make their businesses successful it kills the lower classes competition. And then when those big corporations get a better offer they just take the companies that Americans have built up through their blood, sweat and tears to countries where they can stiff workers by not paying a decent wage and not have to pay benefits. This is Bibi's way to get around BDS. And that's why congress is against it too. The corporations are not going to lose money just because people have principles.
This is what Facebook, Google and Apple are doing right now. They are building factories in Israel while laying off tens of thousands of people here at home. But guess what? They are still receiving millions in subsidies and tax breaks. So whilst this free market works fine for them, Amy, we left here in this asset stripped country have to make up the slack.

But they have it bottled up with monopoly and oligopoly and "intellectual property" that true entrepreneurs never get a real chance to compete. The monopolist sells below cost (predatory pricing) and they are just "a great bargain".

There is, and can be, no such thing. Either democratically elected governments regulate markets to keep them as fair as possible, or, under laissez-faire, the biggest players regulate those same markets for their exclusive benefit.

Free does not mean unregulated. Free means anyone is free to go into business and offer goods for sale. You don't need permission of a cartel and you don't permission of a government. You do have to follow rules, but you don't have to beg to go into business. cf limited numbers of taxi medallions vs taxi regulations and requiring drivers to have chauffeur's licenses.

This is not the same as licensing to ensure standards. If you meet the standard you get a license. A request for a Crown warrant could be rejected or given for no reason at all, i.e. political.

I’m picking up on something
at one point, it seemed like a lot of self professed progressives at places I go are in for Bernie or Tulsi but were ok with Warren too, often lumping her in the same category. Recently it feels like people have been paying a little more attention to what she actually does and are less enthusiastic about her. For a while it felt like TPTB were ramping her up to be the “progressive” everyone was ok with. I could still see them trying that route but that would be a disaster for sure.
Idolizing a politician is like believing the stripper really likes you.

Kamillary Harris said that if she becomes president she will charge Trump. Or no it was she will prosecute him. "For what?" I asked. Why for obstruction of justice of course. Even though Mueller said that he didn't. This is how bad Mueller's report is. He says that Trump is not not guilty, but leaves no way for him to clear his name.

EW is rising in a few recent polls, one national showing her moving into 2d place ahead of Bernie, and a YouGov pol in NV which shows similar 2d place results. Way too early to spend a lot of time with this stuff or get worked up about it, but there you are.
I think she's been visible in the media (so I gather from YT -- I don't watch MSM media) with some of her plans and has been doing well, no apologies or backtracking/flip-flopping. A bit unclear is why Bernie is dipping, unless it's Liz taking away some of his progressive support, perhaps some feeling she might be a more presentable progressive to a general electorate is one possibility. (Edit: Did Bernie get a heads up on these latest numbers, and then decide it was the S-word he needed to deal with?)
Being a "self professed progressive", I've mentioned before she would be an acceptable alternative for me if Tulsi doesn't make it. I'm not looking for 100% pure progressive bold leader, nor even Ivory Soap pure, and she's far better than a LOTE type. Biden, Klobuchar, Delaney Dude and a handful of other corporate centrist nowhere men is where I draw the line in the sand.

much faith in polling numbers, esp. without digging into the internals, esp. the questions asked, who was polled, what age, etc. but also most polls are push polls with the hopes that they an elicit the responses they're after. and this early on? ay yi yi.

clearly, it's much too early to spend much time on these early polls. A lot of jockeying around will happen, candidates will dip and rise here and there. Big whoop. If you want to spend hours studying the internals by all means devote yourself to the task and report back.

Perception is
90% of reality in politics. She has co-sponsored Bernie's M4A bill but also several other proposals less bold, and doesn't strongly embrace M4A or greatly emphasize it in her public appearances. It doesn't appear to be backtracking/flip-flopping, but more a matter of holding a flexible, practical position which doesn't over-promise.
She hasn't (yet) been pressed too hard on her somewhat ambiguous healthcare position, and that time might come. For now, she is doing well at least partly endorsing M4A while keeping the attention on her slew of plans for other things. And she has gotten favorable attention from Dems in her early call for impeachment hearings to be held against the Donald. Bernie only came out in favor weeks later.
She has only
backtracked if you can show something prior to that video where she endorsed a clear M4A position. That video above appears to be from her first 2012 race for senate. At the time, she was apparently not proposing much beyond incremental improvement. Not many prominent Ds were going bold with M4A then. Today, seven years later, she has evolved and while not perfect, at least favors M4A as a goal.

I think he can win the whole thing. I think he could have won in 2016 if the Party hadn't disenfranchised him.

...from either Party, I noticed from my scan of the headlines. But quite a few of them mentioned the Sandinistas, who Bernie hung out with, presumably. That was today's coordinated smear.
Yet I sense a quietness overall. It reminds me of 2016, the way that Bernie somehow reached people who were remote and politically disconnected. And they quietly began sending checks. Then they walked out of their houses and began to gather. I ran into several people like this last time. At stores like Home Depot. They were like tourists visiting democracy. Spontaneous conversations... and then Bernie would come up and the bond was made. It was like the Summer of Love.
When Bernie left, they all melted away, just as quietly. They weren't curious about what happened next. They headed back to their apolitical lives.
There's a long road ahead. People get to test drive these ideas.

Hopefully, because of the speech they left slightly altered in their thinking which hopefully continues to resonate and spread. Bernie and Tulsi present vital opportunities for Americans to have meaningful conversations.
I’ll do my best to advocate for Bernie when I’m visiting family in America, although I don’t have a lot of confidence in convincing them to vote for Bernie instead of one of the other Dems. I might have to start with banning tv news, but only after watching his speech ; ).
I hope these strong and clear messages will resonate much further, and restore to some degree what freedom really means. If Bernie can at least make it clear to more of the population the parallels between the unfortunate past and the present day, it could be a significant gain.
It's never a
good thing when it becomes too much about the messenger rather than the message. I like Bernie, admire him in some ways, particularly on domestic economic fairness issues, but he is fallible and is hardly the saintly, unconquerable comic book hero as depicted in the visual above.
Glad however he is out there trying to push the various discussions in the right direction.

Even so, I notice he referred to our Democratic values. I think his socialist needs the umbrella of "democrat." I think he could influence people to the point that they demand his policies.

But I think this next election and the process to it should really be debated relative to what's happened the last 30 years. This far out I would think more would be receptive to that, but sadly, it ain't so.
I drafted an essay a while back, "Is Bernie Better than Trump?" Never finished it, but I might finish the one I drafted last night, "Can Trying to Reform the Democratic party lead to Democracy?" I need to go back and tone it down a bit, if you know what I mean, and I know you know what I mean.

Although I agree with you that Maduro, Netanyahu and others should be included in the category of xenophobic and authoritarian, I still respect Bernie. Even in personal relationships it is difficult to fully stand up for what you truly believe, even though that is the objective. On a national scale it is infinitely more difficult. When you’re running for president and trying to relate to millions it’s impossible to be all inclusive. The melding of principles and politics is a fragile and fallible endeavour.

This time around I have given money to Tulsi but not Bernie
Bernie's support of Her Heinousness was a game changer for me. I just can't get past that. Perhaps Bernie needs to hang it all out for a really Progressive agenda to change my mind. Still, I don't trust him. Perhaps Trump is a better choice as he is very rapidly destroying The Hegemon. Risk is that everything goes up in smoke. Also he's morally repugnant. I trust Whiney Warren even less. I think that the best candidate is Tulsi, specifically in foreign affairs. But, the deep state, with the help of their corporate news letter -- the New York Time, will cream her. So - hold your nose and vote for the least evil candidate? Naah, We've done that too often, can't do that again. Don't vote as a protest? I really don't know, and don't see any clearly reasoned path from anyone else. Help!

From what I have seen of Bernie's speeches
this year, I'd say that he is doing a much better job at addressing multiple issues rather than honking on one issue over and over again. This speech was very, very good, and should be marked as the beginning definer of his 2020 campaign. I am still in his camp.
I know it's not going to happen with him or any other of the candidates, but I think the marrying of religion/Christianity with our government is a HUGE part of the problem and should be addressed openly. A GREAT book on this issue just came out and I just finished it... The Founding Myth- Why Christian Nationalism is Un-Amrican. by Andrew Seidel. We are in a lot of danger, as history has shown over and over again, if we don't stand up against the Christian take over of our government and media. This has been going on quietly since the time of the rise of the labor unions, but has finally reared its head for all to see. Just one example... Mike Pompeo's statements about God in foreign policy and our protective endorsement of Netanyahu/Israeli government are based solely on the Christian claims that Jesus will make the Second Coming commence with his fist appearance in Israel. Pompeo is of the camp that thinks we have to bring His Kingdom to earth before Jesus will start the ball rolling. That means taking over all societal institutions. So we could essentially get into war because of crazy Christian beliefs that have wedded themselves to our military, intelligence and other governmental agencies.
So, in short, I wish that Bernie could have added this to his list of threats to democracy... maybe someday...
