Democrats trying to goad Trump into attacking Syria again

Yes, we are back to square one.

"Unfortunately we continue to see signs that the Assad regime may be renewing its use of chemical weapons including an alleged chlorine attack in northwest Syria on the morning of May 19," State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
"We are still gathering information on this incident but we repeat our warning that if the Assad regime uses chemical weapons, the United States and our allies will respond quickly and appropriately," she added.

No proof yet, but then a lack of evidence has never prevented us from bombing someone.
Meanwhile, the Syrian government is under assault by terrorists.

Rebels in northwestern Syria launched a counterattack on Tuesday against pro-government positions and fighting killed more than three dozen combatants from both sides, a war monitor said...
The territory is largely controlled by Hay'et Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an armed group that formerly represented al-Qaeda's Syrian wing. The Syrian government has vowed to remove HTS from the region.

So Assad is literally under siege by the same group that attacked us on 9/11, and we are threatening Assad for fighting back. Just imagine if the news actually reported it like I just said it.
Meanwhile, the Dems are pressuring Trump to start a regime-change war.

Hundreds of US lawmakers signed a letter to Donald Trump on Monday calling on the president to exercise “clear and sustained American action” in Syria to eliminate jihadist threats and to protect Washington’s allies.

The letter, signed by nearly 400 lawmakers from across the Senate and the House of Representatives, urges Trump to send “a message of resolve to malign actors in the region” – including Iran and Russia...
Signatories also called on Trump to “increase pressure on Iran and Russia with respect to activities in Syria,” accusing both countries of attempting to change the trajectory of the war “at the expense of Syria’s people.”

First of all, unless we start bombing Syria "the trajectory of the war" is that it's almost over.
Secondly, Syria's refugees are returning to Syria as Assad recaptures the country from the jihadists that we armed.

Laughably, Congress is moving to contain Trump's war-making powers at the very same time it wants him to start a war.

The House Appropriations Committee voted to advance an amendment to a defense spending package on Tuesday that would sunset the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) issued after the 9/11 attacks. The bipartisan legislation would provide Congress with new tools for containing the Trump administration as it meddles in foreign conflicts and stokes military tensions with Iran...
On Friday, 100 House Democrats urged Trump in a letter to “resist factions” in his administration that are “leading our country down a disastrous path to war” and warned that the White House cannot declare war with Iran without approval from Congress, including under the 2001 AUMF. Administration officials are reportedly building a case to declare Iran a terrorist threat in order to circumvent Congress and launch military strikes under AUMF authority if the administration decides to engage Tehran.

in kurdish occupied areas

For three consecutive weeks, residents in parts of the eastern Syrian province of Deir el-Zour have been protesting against U.S.-backed forces that recently defeated Islamic State in its last stronghold there.
"There have been ethnic tensions in many areas controlled by the SDF for some time now, as many Arabs have been excluded from power-sharing. And the economic situation is making it worse," Hossino told VOA.

He added, "It's not only Arabs. Many other Kurdish political and civil society groups have also been excluded from power-sharing from the SDF."
What is happening in Deir al-Zour "is a product mainly of the oil sanctions which the Trump administration put into effect on Syria in the last few months, including the sanctions on SDF entities trading in oil with the regime last year, and the sanctions on the Assad regime's oil imports which really went into effect on Jan. 3," Hossino said.

"The economy in these areas is very much integrated with the regime areas, which is having a major impact," he added.

gjohnsit. Your ability to even use the word, "Laughably," shows your spirit is strong, along with the clarity of your observations. I admit the specter of relentless fascism in our media is taking a toll on my spirit.

I think it's time to accuse the media of treason for promoting policies that have strengthened ISIS, promoted Saudi atrocities, like the targeting of school buses, the turning of Libya into a terrorist arms state, the use of our soldiers as proxies in a meat grinder built for Saudi interests.

It's time to present Putin for what he is and for saying what he says here, reposted from another thread today.

Seem to be adding fuel for attacking Syria. If Netenyahu can't have Iran, he may get Syria.

@MrWebster

pose the question, "what are they thinking?" It poses the question, "do they have any common sense?"

What do the people at Democracy Now think is happening in Syria now? Never mind whether they believe the reports that there was no chemical weapons attack by Syria at Douma, what do they think continuing this slaughter will achieve? More of the same? Is that something any rational person could endorse?

Are they so separated from war that they don't see the carnage that our policies have wrought? Do they think, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, from Afghanistan to Yemen to Syria to Libya to Iraq, that continuing this will bring about a peaceful outcome? Democracy? Show me the Democracy in any of our policies. Where are they coming from? What delusional set of facts are they working with?

@Linda Wood to have and they stick to them since those delusions pay them handsomely. They have no intent of helping the Syrian people, and I know you know that as well. This is just another forever war and they'll go on doing it until this country implodes like the empty husk it really is. Stupidity isn't even the right word anymore for the American sheep that go along with this crap either. Willful Idiocy is nice but that doesn't really convey the inherent evil and extreme arrogance in this country, does it?

@lizzyh7 I hardly think the US has any room to say anything to ANYONE about doing that either. People die every day in this country due to poverty and lack of decent medical care while the willfully blind talk about what a great country this is. We kill our own by polluting, incarcerating, starving, literally torturing people with stress but we have a right to tell others how to live? My God. I said that to a neighbor a few weeks ago who started spewing crap about Russia or whoever, got that total deer in the headlights and then she told me I need to "do my research" and pointed me to Mark Levin.... A pundit. Jesus the stupid makes me angry and unreasonable. It didn't go well with that neighbor but I really do not care anymore what people think of me when I let loose. It's too late for niceties sometimes, and God knows I am lousy at being "civil" when I am angry.

@lizzyh7

Send your neighbor a link to this site and have her read our essays on debunking Russia Gate. I know what you're up against trying to talk sense into people who have bought the Russian propaganda nonsense. Even after Mueller said Trump did not collude with Vlad people still think he did.

@Linda Wood

to us about that chemical weapons attack last year. Before that happened they knew that Russia was telling the world that a false flag was coming. And now they're saying that Russia is trying to muddle the water by saying that this one was one too. They just don't give a rat's ass what we think.

Are they so separated from war that they don't see the carnage that our policies have wrought? Do they think, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, from Afghanistan to Yemen to Syria to Libya to Iraq, that continuing this will bring about a peaceful outcome?

Oh yeah they see what their actions have wrought, but just like they don't care how many American children are going to bed hungry tonight they don't care how many innocent civilians they have killed. After people found out they lied to us about the gulf of Tonkin event that ended with 3 million Vietnamese deaths they thought nothing of it to do another false war based on lies that killed over a million Iraqis. Then they moved on to Libya after lying to us about Gaddafi's troops raping women. Since Gaddafi died terrorists have taken over Libya and expanded their territory to 14 more countries and are holding slave markets. Next was Syria and Obama's pivot to Asia. Venezuela. More Syria. China is in the crosshairs and now we're sending more troops to the Middle East.

No, Linda, the PTB don't want peace. It's bad for profits. Besides if they don't spend money on wars then we might get uppity and demand that they spend it on us.

@Linda Wood What gets me is that the analyses of the MSM are so shallow. If one actually reads the FBI report on the Podesta email spearfishing, for example, it is pretty clear that there is no real evidence of Russian involvement. The standard narratives on Gruccifer 2.0, the Skripals, the "gas attacks" in Syria, etc. etc. do not bear up to close scrutiny, but the MSM is populated by extremely shallow, uncritical people these days.

Not Henry Kissinger's picture

That counter attack is in response to the long postponed offensive to take back Idlib province from John McCain's 'moderate rebels' (aka al quaeda) by the Syrians and Russians.

It's not a coincidence that Trump's flurry of mid-east saber rattling is occurring during the operation. The real agenda here is to put as much pressure as possible on Assad and Putin so they don't take out what's left of the Syrian regime changers.

Doesn't look like the pressure is working.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

because they were 'afraid' of doing anything or something we are now sending 10,000 troops to the Middle East.

Where’s the other 110k? Pentagon mulls sending ‘up to 10,000’ troops amid Iran tensions

US Central Command has asked the Pentagon to send up to 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East, citing threat from Iran even as the Trump administration boasted about having successfully ‘deterred’ Tehran already.
A CENTCOM request for 5,000 troops was reported by Reuters on Wednesday, citing two anonymous US officials. The reinforcements would be “defensive in nature,” one of the officials reportedly said.

AP reported soon thereafter that the Pentagon will present plans to send “up to 10,000 troops” to the Middle East, also citing unnamed officials.

Washington has already sent a carrier strike group, a number of B-52 strategic bombers, and a unit of Patriot missile defense batteries to the region, citing intelligence warnings of an “imminent threat” by Iran. Many US diplomats and their families were evacuated from the neighboring Iraq as well.

On Tuesday, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan told reporters that the deployments have had the desired effect, deterring the Iranian attack and putting Tehran’s plans “on hold.

So what is the real reason why the troops are being sent there? Should we be expecting a false flag event on top of the one in Syria? I'd sure love to be a fly on the wall wherever Bolton is hanging out.
