The flowering trees are budding and others are getting new leaves. I'm waiting for the lilacs to bloom. They have leaves and it's fun to watch how fast this happens.
I wonder how many miles I walked on this trail over the decades I walked it. I had 5 options on which direction I wanted to travel. This was such a great area for walking until the city put in this bike trail. I kept pulling out the stakes, but they built it anyway.

This was one of the nice things about Modesto! Kinda had to look for them since I heard people calling it the armpit of California... but it was a great place to walk.
Great pix B.R. May the greens of spring find you soon!
This is Standing Winecup, that is pollen scattered about the petals.
This is a Sulphur-tipped Clubtail. One family of dragons, the Gomphids, the eyes are not fused and instead are seperate, like this.
American Lady (formerly Virginia Lady) sister taxa to the abundant Painted Lady.
Grasshopper Sparrow, though they eat a lot of them, it is named after its song, which is a trilled buzz much like a grasshopper.
Thanks everyone for all the great posts all week all over the site.

This is a Monarch (first photo below). They are large black and orange jobs. The ones west of the Rockies winter along the CA coast, their population is in near freefall, decling 90% in the last 30 years. The eastern population is the one that winters in Mexican highlands, migrates back north in spring to lay a set of eggs and die. Those larvae eat and pupate quickly and immediately move north all the way to Canada, lay eggs and die. Those larvae eat and pupate quickly and do not breed, they migrate south to Mexico for the winter and lay eggs when they return again in spring. So it is 3 generations that make the whole loop and cycle. The eastern Monarchs are also in trouble but having a slight rebound this year and we are optimistic. Widespread use of Roundup has been a major problem for them.
This is the dorsal or upperside of an American Lady (ventral shot in-hand above), the very closely related Painted Lady is considered by some to be the most abundant butterfly in the world, looks very similar. It undertakes major migrations in spring northward, some years by the millions, especially in the southwest U.S.
What's the difference between the painted lady and monarchs or are they the same? The bird looks so cuddly.

The more that I look at the b&w photo from the bridge the more captivating it becomes. The lines and crossings, the elevations and distance in fog is enchanting.

Spring is springing but not quite sprung here
This fence was gone the day after I took this picture. Not sure where the pigs went.
There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?

Hi snoopy, It looks so inviting
Maybe the pigs have gone on to fertilise other pastures.
I'm looking forward to seeing your Spring as it comes.
It's definitely coming

Hi Bollox
I need one of your soothing drinks just thinking about studying for finals. Good luck to Bollox Minor.
Thanks for the beautiful photo of your woods in Spring. It really captures the light of early warming Spring. It looks like a bowl full of light.
Thanks for posting Bollox.
Another kind of light ...
Thanks Janis
A Golden Wood indeed. Reminded me of LOTR. Fortunately, there weren't any orcs following us as we entered.
The first is a mirror?
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
It looks like you're there all alone.
That's a reflection at night in an old, wavy-kind of glass window pane.
Again I'm not able to see your photos
I see bollox and the one you posted last week in the comments.. is it my iPad?

Nice
This would make a great drawing too. I'm still envious that you can do that.

Happy Spring everyone!
What fun to see the season' colors reflected in photos. Lovely.

Aren't you in California too?

An abstract
The endless spiral stairway to heaven.
The reflection of Janis is confusing to my linear brain. Appear to be a bunch of space monkeys doing some creative engineering experiment.
Hope they don't get burned, playing with torches and all.
space monkeys!
I think I need to become more aware of what's going on around me ; )
That photo is definitely spacey.
Spring
The first picture makes me miss the trees looking like that already. You can see so much further when they don't have their leaves.
Spring sprung so hard here that it knocked it straight into summer.
View from my back porch:
I have lots of flowerpots on the back porch including my little gnome village under a hibiscus that I was able to keep alive through the winter.
And a new hibiscus:
Is it great yet?
How fanciful and playful!
Thank you Jen.
