Tuesday Open Thread ~ 19 MAR 19 Last day of winter

The ability to adapt to change is critical to growth
~

Welcome to the ongoing Tuesday edition of an open thread where your thoughts are scrutinized beyond reason, for no reason, as it is quite as important as your unreasoned (or otherwise) impressions of this illusion we call today. Call it potentially preposterous.

~

Today, we have chosen change as a topic maybe worth your synaptic reflex. Seems about as good as any at this point. Had originally thought chance might be a fun topic, but that changed. The planning committee then considered choice as a viable subject, which was tabled for further review, due to lack of a quorum. Given the choice we chose change.

~

Although social change seems to happen on a glacial scale, personal change can be immediate.
I'm pretty sure about that. And change is not always good. The consequences are not always clear.
I do feel a new way of thinking about ourselves and the world is a change we need to develop and encourage among each other. In a positive way.

~
To reverse a previously held opinion or an earlier decision.
and / or
To alter one's approach or attitude.
~

Possible views of the concept --
1. new
2. different
3. alter
4. switch
5. a shell to be broken (think seeds) to grow
6. metamorphoses -- like butterflies
7. transformation
8. replacement
9. something unexpected -- like, I changed my mind, I think
10. a constant in life ?
11. perhaps inevitable

~

Changes can come from without or emanate from within. They may occur thru verbal, mental and physical cues. It may come in a flash or a gradual awakening. Some circumstances are more conducive to realizing change. Are there spaces you find that are more likely to cause change in your life?

~

We are trying to pare down the possibilities to somewhere south of infinity, so will pause it here.

Thanks for reading and sharing all of your ideas!

Sent emails to our state rep. and all the members of the judiciary committee encouraging members to support the automatic weapons / high capacity loaders ban legislation snaking thru the house. Of course, certain restrictions apply in the wording, but it is a step in the right direction, if it passes.

always with us. On the national and international levels, it often seems that change for the worse predominates.

I do like changing seasons. My home and wardrobe changes with them, as well as with holidays; and I like that, too. For the most part, though, I need to do better at appreciating change.

Sometimes, the stories that friends, neighbors and acquaintances tell you about the changes in their own lives are life lessons and a source of positive change in your own life.

A neighbor who had had a surprise "change of life" baby told me she had said she could not wait for him to sleep through the night, then she could not wait for him to walk, then to talk, then to be potty trained, then...."I realized I was wishing my life away." I encountered her when her son was about two and not especially verbal, though he could climb to the top of a refrigerator and be ready to throw himself off it in the time it took an adult to glance away very briefly. And I've rarely seen a mother enjoy her child more than this neighbor, after her epiphany about her child's "progress."

Speaking of change, when--and why--did "Would you like coffee?" become "Would you like a coffee?"

I don't think the answers to my question will change my life, but I've been wondering. I don't think I'll be adopting that particular change, though.

Morning HAW --

Good concept -- adopting change. Opting / adapting. Agree with the experience of change vicariously thru others. Lessons learned by the trials of those you know. Less work involved.

Cheers!

Love it. Expands the idea of change. The double meaning of plastic / money. No small change.

Hey EL --

Sorry, a bit slow on the uptake. I-Ching, aka The Book of Changes. Which rhymes with ka-ching, the sound humans make to imitate coinage. Not unlike the ringing sound made by change machines. And it's the machine that needs changing, like a dirty diaper. Or some such.

Thanks for posting!

I find that changing how I respond to a person/situation can change everything. It works for me.

I'm suffering with severe allergies, all of a sudden. Of course, it's been a wet (in New Mexico standards) year and I'm finding many folks suffering like me. I hate taking medication for it, but I can't function, otherwise. Any suggestions, anyone?

Have a breathable day, everyone! Pleasantry

Sinus issues may be eased by breathing the steam released by a boiling teapot. Helps to open the swollen nasal membranes. Some add a few drops of tea tree oil. I like salt.

Good luck!

After Trade Day this AM I was lucky to have some change (quarters) cause I went to the car wash. Took 4 quarters, a rinse, 2 foaming brushes, and a final rinse, to clean my little Geo Tracker...and it was a muddy mess. Now it looks new...what a change!

...and after that silliness let me drop a link that may interest some folks.

Despite receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from those who have actually seen it, The Occupation of the American Mind has been repeatedly attacked and misrepresented by right-wing pressure groups and outright ignored by virtually all mainstream media outlets and North American film festivals. To bypass this campaign of misrepresentation and suppression, we’ve decided to make the film available for FREE online so that people can make up their own minds about its analysis of U.S. media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Please watch and share widely!

Have a good day all!

There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. ~ Minnie Aumonier

Truer words cannot describe my life at this moment. I am slowly working my way through all the bureaucratic alleys that Social Security wants to put me through to get D.O. affairs settled. Of course, they were johnny on the spot in taking the money back out of our account when notified of his death.

Change has been both difficult and at other times "aha" moments when I begin to set my own schedule and create new routines for my life. Had one of those change moments during yoga class the other day. We begin by placing an intention on our hearts as we begin and I had chosen peace. During the yoga routine, I begin crying and realized that peace at this moment is possible and it was OK.

Continue to grow and change but one thing is constant, my time visiting C99 is one of the grounding rods for me. Thanks all!

It was the space I had in mind too, near the heart. Sometimes it takes awhile for the head to catch up.

Best wishes.

I often find that feeling of peace around nature. Whether it's the ocean, or the mountains, there is something profoundly healing about being near something so ancient and in rhythm, that I always feel whole again.

is what comes to mind for me when I think of change this morning. Spring has sprung here in Southetn California and after a few warm days here, I can already see green shoots on my fig tree and rosebuds on the rose bushes. The dormant gray colors will turn to a burst of green with dapples of pink, yellow, red, and purple, and everything will look alive again.

It's like a deeper / higher cycle. The returning of the birds. The winds changing direction. Vegetation shedding their winter guises. Good for the spirit to experience. Feeling younger for a moment.
