The Green new Deal is at best a starting place, thankfully, it's pushing the conversation; need to take the Durbin's and Dianne's out fishing in the wilderness for a few days and persuade, change their corporate minds.

Some say our back is to the wall, and we only have ten years left, but I remember that exact rhetoric as a teenager, trying to get us to rise up and demand of our elders that systemic change happen NOW. I've found that most of the time, California is the test bed for ideologies to be rolled out nationwide. If folks tell me that NO, this time it's different, I understand how you feel that way, it scared the hell out of me when I first heard this stuff too. Right after the big 94 quake. I'm not accusing anybody of lying, or falsifying data. Hell, I am cutting back on everything I can because I DO believe in climate change.

But the rhetoric is different. It's not trying to convince, it's trying to silence criticism. Find me one Democrat who will agree with banning air travel, and you'll find your honest environmentalist. Find the guy who wants to use the nuclear weapons for reactors to get RID of the stuff, and you'll find an honest environmentalist. There's so many better and more effective ways we could be immediately working on climate change, and instead TPTB want us arguing about how the poor will sacrifice to make it happen.

Frankly, I know what will happen with this "Green New Deal". The exact same thing that will happen with every other Democratic proposal. It'll be rolled back to only the corporate giveaways, then the Liberals will be blamed for "Socialism Doesn't Work". Seen this one far too many times to fall for it again. Time to switch to offense. When are they going to stop using their flights, security details, etc? Let's see some costs and carbon usage. Those computers you write off? I wanna see the environmental costs for using them including rare earth extraction damage calculation as well as human suffering from the slave labor used to dig the metal.

If we're going to do this, Lets get Serious.

i have the tin-dipper from Grandma's farm, the one we all grew up with, it's precious to me.

tin dipper would have been at "the picture show" or on TV. Such is the fate of a cement dweller. When I was maybe 5, I did pump water at some bungalow on a river somewhere that was communally owned and open to all comers and my family were occasionally among the comers.People were always barbecueing and there was salad and maybe something else and everybody who wanted to eat could eat.

I don't remember my family ever bringing food, though maybe we did. It would be very unlike my parents not to contribute anything and both my parents liked to cook.

Now that I think about it, I wish I knew more about the whole thing, how the deed was held, whose idea it was, etc. The bathrooms reminded me of the "boys' room" and the "girls' room at my elementary school. Why there was running water in the johns and the kitchen, but a pump on the grounds, too.

In a twist of fate, the man who taught me to swim there when I was five became my mother's second husband when I was sixteen.

good-speed; i recall after open heart surgery, instructions were to not lift or carry anything for weeks. Don't recall for other surgeries and cancer, think i got the same instructions as you, don't lift anything heavy; depends on the size of the wine bottle, i guess.

Know you will, but do take care. Celebrating having food on Sundays; works for me. With the exceptions of greens and cabbage grown locally, fresh produce is hard to come by on the mountain; all the grocery chain stores, even the organic stores, ship produce in from other countries during winter. I even asked the organic food market butcher why i should be interested in Australian grass-feed beef which the store was pushing, advertising as something special. After all that shipping, handling and freezing, i don't know how it can be worth the discounted, yet still premium price.

and thanks for the OT. Great piece by Nina. Our rain will return in very few days here, so we've been doing what we can outside while it is briefly gone. Farmers' market today, as usual, and my week to cook starts tomorrow, after a quick run to Dry Creek and Healdsburg, so another miniature cycle within the expanding nest of cycles kicks off. Why Sunday, and what is its great holy significance? It's the day after framers' market, of course.

Surgeon said 4 to 6 week rehab, so Wednesday will be either half or 1/3, heh. That's a 50% error bar there, but I guess some of it is up to me. Get up and move, keep moving, but don't lift, pull or push anything heavy. Walk in circles of what? What is heavy anyway, a sheet of 1/2" plywood, bag of potting soil, 5 gallons of H₂O? No straight answer on that of course. Anyway, off to get moving.

Yes, have you constructed an ark yet? From the window, i can see, about three hundred yards below, the ski school training area and closet parking lot to the main lodge and the cars keep coming and folks are skiing in the poring rain; El Nino, big time impacts on local weather this winter.

Driveway and farm roads need lots of attention in the mountains, don't they? Glad you got the tractor all good to go a few months ago, assuming of course that's how you grade the path.

Big wheeled wagons have advantages, don't they?

Water flows everywhere. Almost a foot of rain this week. Gray days. A good week for indoor projects though.

Have a leak on the porch I'll have to tend to next week, but so much better than a leak in the house. Road needs to be graded too. So is the nature of the endless chores of upkeep.
