Snow and PDX Meetup Poll
Submitted by Granma on Wed, 02/06/2019 - 10:46am
The weather people are forecasting significant snow this coming weekend for NW Oregon and SW Washington. The meetup is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1:00 pm. Timing of snowstorm seems to be in question, the only solid part being over the weekend.
Do we need to postpone the meetup? What say you? Respond please.
I have a medical appointment this morning, but will be back later.

I've perused three sources
and all three show sunshine on Sunday. That said, it doesn't mean no icy conditions for those coming up or down the I-5 corridor.
I've got chains and I'm still game, coming from East Vancouver.
I'll go with the flow of those who would drive the farthest.

Farthest drivers say we meet, so we will.
I booked a hotel room
coming from Seattle area and I guess I will watch what happens with the weather, may have to cancel but so far I am planning on being there.

I'm looking forward to seeing you.
Currently driving on snow/ice daily
Predictions of weather over Hood are not intimidating.
The 1pm time allows for any extra time needed for adverse conditions. Sunday morning have the least traffic. If I am worried about the return trip I will simply stay the night and drive back Monday.
Still yourself, deep water can absorb many disturbances with minimal reaction.

I'm looking forward to seeing you.
Oh boy.
I can take three people in my car to the meeting. I've already scheduled lodgings for the 9th, in Ashland, and am planning to drive northward on the morning of the 10th.
What would you like me to do?

We are going ahead as planned.
Be careful of icy spots on I-5
Check this link for tripcheck to preview conditions and pictures of the road ahead in Oregon.
I am going to try and squeeze in a quick visit to One Green World nursery mentioned by Peachcreek a couple of weeks ago.

Bravo. Thank you for putting up those great links.
Also I see sunshine in the forecast too.

Weather forecast
Cass, sunshine the day after snow doesn't mean much. Forecasting for the PDX area is tricky because both the ocean, Columbia gorge, and apparently the mountains, all affect the weather we get. That means local forecasters are sometimes more accurate than the national weather service.
The location I chose is on a main street, that is an exit from the freeway. Therefore, if you get that far, the trickiest part may be getting in and out of the parking lot.
Since the people who are driving the farthest ( that I am aware of) have made arrangements, I guess the meetup is on as scheduled. And we will hope for the best. If it snows Saturday, the freeway and main roads should be all right by Sunday.
May I suggest...
a reminder essay sometime Friday. I'll make sure it gets plenty of exposure.

You can post it...
as an essay. Or if you prefer a PDF form you can give me a link to it if it's already posted on a server elsewhere and I'll link to it in the sidebar or where ever you want. Or you can send me a copy and I'll upload it to our server and then add a link to it in the sidebar or where ever you want.
An essay would allow for comments and/or input, a PDF will not.
Thank you. Yes I will do
Happy to see folks getting together.
I'm uplifted by the various commitments in making this happen. Thanks to Granma for shepherding it through.
In these bleak times we could us a whole lot more of this type of thing to restore spirits.
Wish I could be there too.
