Then, there were the Goldens, which made me ask myself, "Are we really going to have a dawg that large?"

The joy of watching dawgs wriggle in snow is such a delight isn't it? Abby loves it when there is snow everywhere. She acts like a puppy again.

The snow has compacted and crusted over
so no snow angels, but Roux, our boy dog, just loves bounding through the snow. He is Peter Pan in an dog suit. He will never grow up.

Goldens
I never paid much attention to goldens until our latest mutt, who is half golden and half german shepherd. Really good combo: people-pleasing gentle personality of the golden with the smarts of the shepherd. House training consisted of me peeing once on a bush outside; he got the idea. I once left a turkey sandwich on the bed, left the room and came back to find him curled up next to it, without touching it. He waited for me to return to ask for some. My jaw dropped. Very social with other animals, but he'll chase off any dog that challenges him. I hear they're selling this cross as a breed now, but he was pure accident.

that resists a turkey sandwich is truly one-of-a-kind. We'll be very lucky if our new girl turns out to be that well-behaved.
Actually, haven't been around the Golden breed, a whole lot. We did have a GSD neighbor for almost 4 years--he was whip-smart, beautiful, and sweet. Also, he was very protective of/loyal to his person, a college student. Joe said that 'Jack' played with, and got along well with all dogs--including his parents tiny Yorkie. To be honest, I can hardly even visualize what that would look like.
Hope to post a couple photos of the Pup (after we get her) at the Photography OT. Hope you'll consider the same. (I'm thinking that 'maybe' you did, quite some time ago, but, I could be mixed up. It could be that we had only 'talked' about him.

on Grandfather's farm, and learning to hunt with the Pointers and the joy around college age when i understood how Mother Pointer taught her children to be still in spite of themselves.
