A reminder that we are still at war in Afghanistan
42% of Americans don't know, have forgotten, or just don't care, that our troops are still fighting and dying in Afghanistan, but it turns out that the Taliban still care.
Three American service members died Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded in central Afghanistan, the worst tragedy yet in a deadly month for U.S. forces in the war-torn country.
...Lt. Ubon Mendie, a spokesman for U.S. forces, said in a statement that three other service members and one American civilian contractor were injured in the blast.
Last Saturday, Sgt. Leandro Jasso was mortally wounded by friendly fire during a firefight with al-Qaeda.
The number of Americans killed in Afghanistan since 2001 now exceeds 2,400.
So what did our brave President, that has never visited the troops in Afghanistan, have to say about this?
President Donald Trump defended the continued U.S. military presence in Afghanistan as critical to national security in a Washington Post interview on Tuesday and promised to visit America troops stationed there “at the right time.”
...
When asked about the recent deaths, Trump expressed his condolences but also defended the ongoing mission there.“We’re there because virtually every expert that I have and speak to say if we don’t go there, they’re going to be fighting over here,” Trump told the newspaper. “And I’ve heard it over and over again.”
The word is that Trump is putting pressure on people to find a face-saving exit from Afghanistan, but none of this is translating into actual policy yet.

If tRump is even half as smart as I think he is, he'll start Troop™ withdrawls by Sep. 2020 at the latest.

Fighting over there.
What a freakin' joke is Trump's claim that if we don't fight them there, we'll be fighting them here. That totally ignores the fact that we weren't fighting them here before we started meddling in Afghanistan during the 1980s. After our policies over there created bin Laden, he brought the war here on 9/11. Our government conveniently forgets that is our actions that cause the reactions we then bitterly complain about.
even at that, we only attacked the taliban
because they declined to "hand over" (implying that they had the power) bin laden without being given some sort of reasonable evidence that he was responsible for 9/11.
prior to that they're our best buds, in spite of their medieval faith-based barbarity.

OMG. He quoted Bush?
If this was true then wouldn't the smart thing to do would be to bring the troops home and let them protect us from here? Good grief. This is who gets to be in charge of making decisions on where the military goes? Yes I'm aware that he is just a puppet, but still....
No Donny, they pretty much want to kill us because what we have done to their families and their countries. If someone dropped a bomb on my house and killed my family I'd want some payback too. Of course it's more complicated than that. Bin Laden wanted our military out of Saudi Arabia.
