My Facebook Post on Voting Climate
Here is the text.
How am I approaching the #ClimateBreakdown? First by voting. Not paying attention to parties or personalities I have tried to vote for those who have not fallen for the great temptations of arrogance, greed, and presumption. (Matthew 4:1-10) There aren't many choices!! But rather voted for candidates who through compassion, wisdom, and generosity hopefully will have the courage to make the big decisions. Secondly, as you can see below, this past year I have been desperately trying to find things that will actually grow in my part of Texas. Nothing that grows in Iowa!! Lots of weird looking squash, Armenian cucumbers, short-day onions, Jubilee watermelon, peanuts, pomegranates, persimmons, peaches, odd apricots, and egg-shaped eggplant. Potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers - but they are fickle. Two important links. There is a religious reference, but most of my friends and family have religious leanings. Visited with Magi about doing this as a chain letter, and she gave me a bunch of good ideas. However, in the end, I went soft. For my audience, I think it was the way to go.
If any of you have posted or written friends and family about voting and/or climate and would like to share below, that would be cool.

It's a lovely form of activism
In the case of environmental issues, I believe that change must ultimately be led by examples from the bottom-up as an expression of who you are in this world. This is a good example of that.

I made a long (for me!) comment in the previous diary so I’m not going to repeat myself. But yes, vote climate and the hell with everything else. Even vote for Michael effing Bloomberg because at least he has a clue.

for that link to the Deep Adaptation paper.
I will go back and read it more closely. In the article the author repeatedly states that climate collapse, social collapse, environmental collapse, and the resulting economic collapse is just around the corner for us. Indeed, many people have already experienced collapse it just has not been accurately acknowledged.
I agree with much of what this author says and I appreciate his insights. I plan to draw on some of his ideas to bolster my own "resilience".

we already realized that collapse is close. Now we can move forward with the ideas in Deep Adaptation and see what we can create and or let go.
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
