(An important reminder): James Comey and the Unending Bush Torture Scandal
This guy is a horrible excuse for a human being. He’s never hesitated to do the bidding of the worst this country has to offer. He was up to his armpits in the bush/cheney torture programs. He helped grease the wheels. It’s time to take another look at his record of ‘public service’.
James Comey and the Unending Bush Torture Scandal
*
The American Civil Liberties Union, Human Rights Watch, and other organizations did excellent reports prior to Comey’s becoming FBI chief that laid out his role in the torture scandal. Such hard facts, however, have long since vanished from the media radar screen. MSNBC host Chris Matthews recently declared, “James Comey made his bones by standing up against torture. He was a made man before Trump came along.” Washington Post columnist Fareed Zakaria, in a column declaring that Americans should be “deeply grateful” to lawyers such as Comey, declared, “The Bush administration wanted to claim that its ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ were lawful. Comey believed they were not…. So Comey pushed back as much as he could.”
*
Comey twice gave explicit approval for waterboarding, which sought to break detainees with near-drowning. This practice had been recognized as a war crime by the U.S. government since the Spanish-American War. A practice that was notorious when inflicted by the Spanish Inquisition was adopted by the CIA with the Justice Department’s blessing. (When Barack Obama nominated Comey to be FBI chief in 2013, he testified that he had belatedly recognized that waterboarding was actually torture.)
Comey wrote in his memoir that he was losing sleep over concern about Bush-administration torture polices. But losing sleep was not an option for detainees, because Comey approved sleep deprivation as an interrogation technique. Detainees could be forcibly kept awake for 180 hours until they confessed their crimes. How did that work? At Abu Ghraib, one FBI agent reported seeing a detainee “handcuffed to a railing with a nylon sack on his head and a shower curtain draped around him, being slapped by a soldier to keep him awake.” Numerous FBI agents protested the extreme interrogation methods they saw at Guantanamo and elsewhere, but their warnings were ignored.
Comey also approved “wall slamming” — which, as law professor David Cole wrote, meant that detainees could be thrown against a wall up to 30 times. Comey also signed off on the CIA’s using “interrogation” methods such as facial slaps, locking detainees in small boxes for 18 hours, and forced nudity. When the secret Comey memo approving those methods finally became public in 2009, many Americans were aghast — and relieved that the Obama administration had repudiated Bush policies.

When he first campaigned for president, Barack Obama pledged to vigorously investigate the Bush torture regime for criminal violations. Instead, the Obama administration proffered one excuse after another to suppress the vast majority of the evidence, pardon all U.S. government torturers, and throttle all torture-related lawsuits. The only CIA official to go to prison for the torture scandal was courageous whistleblower John Kiriakou. Kiriakou’s fate illustrates that telling the truth is treated as the most unforgivable atrocity in Washington.

After his stint with the bush/cheney cabal he should have been banned from having ANY position of authority in this country. In a just world he would have been in prison. This is a guy whose entire career is based on deception and illegal and immoral acts. And it was the Transparency Transformational Prez the appointed him as head of the FBI in 2013.
There is no reason anyone should respect this man. Or believe a word he says. Of course the investigation into the Clinton Creature’s private servers was rigged. That was Comey’s forte, that is what he does. He covers up malfeasance of government officials. It is what kept him employed (so to speak). In his book he’s portraying himself as being against torture. And he’s getting away with it. We cannot allow extent of Comey’s involvement in the horrors perpetrated by the bush/cheney administration be forgotten.
The Empty Suit let all these criminals walk. That, in my opinion, makes him every bit as guilty as the war criminals in the bush/cheney administration.

Comments
A few remarks, or "comments," if you will:
First, what the heck was Comey doing in the midst of how the CIC and Chief Executive and the AG/D of J treat alleged foreign terrorists? There is a huge difference between investigating a criminal enterprise that propelled planes flying into the Twin Towers and ruling on the legality (or not) of the punishment of those who MIGHT have conspired with them. The latter was a call solely for Chief Executive and D of J (since those two had decided to forego the Constitutional guarantees of counsel, judge and jury). It was not a call for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (of domestic crimes). Not to mention, we all later saw how Comey mangles law to pretend it fits the extra-legal result he wants.
Second, given Comey's record on torture, why did a President who campaigned on ending torture (but did not), namely, Barack "Look only forward" Hussein Obama ensure Comey a place in the history and record books by making Comey the longest-"serving" FBI head since the repugnant, slimy J. Edgar Hoover? WTF was Obama rewarding Comey for? (That was a purely hetorical question: We all know why Obama did that.)
Third, and I may well sound like a broken record (scratched CD?), our quisling mass media does not even make a feint at objective, professional journalism. Rather, some years ago, it schooled us that "commentators" are not bound by objectivity. However,as the saying goes, Matthews and Zakaria are entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts. Or to Comey's revision of factual history.
Today's establishment msm has become so lazy and so corrupt that it may as well be a ventriloquist's dummy, mindlessly flapping its mouth as they lob the views of the alleged "moderate" establishment to listeners. No mere fact-checking, let alone investigative reporting. And, if these "commentators" are only bloviating subjective commentary and not objective reporting, shouldn't they or their respective networks and publications be making that disclosure explicitly?
As one of many scapegoated for Hillary's 2016 loss, Comey was briefly therefore a "bad guy" to the establishment and its propagandists. However, as soon as Trump fired Comey, Comey became the proverbial "enemy of my enemy." At that point, the "moderate" establishment knee-jerked from blaming Comey for Trump's election to taking Comey's side against Trump--and not only as to the bad blood between Comey and Trump. No, Comey had to become correct in all things, present and past, just as the msm has made Trump incredibly villainous in all things.
The establishment eschews nuance because it makes both whitewashing and brainwashing ever so much more difficult than fact-free "commentary." However, whitewashing Comey's pro-torture past is different from slandering someone else, so the "commentators" and their publishers risk no consequences (other than contempt from people who value truth, who don't pay their inflated salaries an therefore don't matter to them). Again, I maintain that establishment media shills don't deserve First Amendment protection.
Gah, Kirakou interview after being released is something else.
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
Congress had to drag the word "it's torture'
out of Comey's mouth regarding water boarding during his confirmation hearing. Let's not forget that he has been involved with the Clintons going back to their time in the WH were he protected them from their numerous investigations. The Hill bots like to say that Hillary has been investigated for over 30 years. I don't think that is something that she should brag about. This means that they have been involved in shady dealings since before they slimed their way out of Little Rock and into DC when they decided that the DP should be beholden to the Koch brothers and others of their ilk.
Read a comment yesterday that said that Bill was the first black president and Obama was the first black person to be white. I'm seeing people being upset that Trump is doing .... while forgetting that Obama did many of the same things. Or didn't do them,
When they go low we go lower. If The Hague ever gets the power to investigate this country for its war crimes our government will be hollowed out and maybe then we can put people in who will represent us? Clancy's book, Executive Orders had one of the best endings. A new VP was going to be sworn in and while he was waiting to come into the room where the SOTU is held a plane crashed into the building and killed everyone there. The whole government and military leaders were wiped out in one fell swoop.
BTW. It took 3 years for Bush to get Kavanaugh* appointed to the federal court. This was the first time that the ABA downgraded him.
Off topic, but I hope people will read this article that describes the role of the Supreme Court since its inception. It's not the last leg of defending the constitution as people used to think. It's purpose has always been to defend the interests of the elites.

Comey and HSBC:
It wasn't just HSBC that got to walk after paying fines
Can anyone name one person who went to prison for committing financial crimes? Most banks just paid a few million after making billions. Or any of the potential appointments to Obama's cabinet after it was discovered that they hadn't paid their taxes for years who went to prison? If Hillary had won then Manafort would still be doing what he was before Russia Gate came along. But I'm wondering if anyone from this farce is actually going to go to prison? Maybe this is just more theater for the masses?

He pleaded guilty in March 2009. That was during Obama's tenure, but he was charged during Bush's.
A pair of boxer shorts belonging to Bernard Madoff are displayed by an auctioneer during a media preview of the U.S. Marshals Service 'Madoff II Auction' in the Brooklyn borough of New York, November 10, 2010
