Yes, today is Tucson's birthday.
Here is the founding document:
The Presidio, or army base, was moved north from Tubac to protect the local inhabitants from Apache raiding. The Tohono O'odham, being an agricultural people, made good Spanish subjects. Many consented to baptism in the Catholic Church taking Spanish surnames and, presumably, offering their sons for Catholic rituals. Most of the soldiers in the Spanish army were Native American. Col. O'Conor was a bit optimistic about closing the Apache frontier. That would take another 100 years.

The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Buenos dias, AZ, thanks for the presentation ot the proclamation
I forgot my headphones, so the music will have to wait til we get home this afternoon. We're up along the Russian River, but inland enough that the major influence was still Espana/Mexico. We'll grab some breakfast in about 15 minutes and then try to find a way home that isn't a nightmare. Coming up saturday morning was brutal, stop and go from the Richmnd/San Rafael Brigde up to beyond Santa Rosa.
Have a great day
