Late August - summer is winding down. I regularly have mosquitos over for lunch, so nice to hear they have a whole day dedicated to them. Wink

@enhydra lutris I hope you enjoyed your stay, albeit short. Where were you? I used to drop off my rent check in downtown Healdsburg, landlord not too far. The newer lord lives in SF so I use the post office to get the check down there. THANKS

I coulda hopped the bus south, it's north I can't go without an overnight stay. Not even fifteen miles to Hopland. wah no legal bike lanes

Did you notice how many electric charging stations we have in wine country? lol (wink) Hopefully, you stopped by Redwood Herbal Alliance on your way back home, they are really nice people there.

Here is the founding document:

I, Hugo Oconor, knight of the order of Calatrava, colonel of infantry in His Majesty’s armies and Commandant Inspector of the frontier posts of New Spain, Certify: that having conducted the exploration prescribed in Article Three of the New Royal Regulation of Presidios issued by His Majesty on the Tenth of September of 1772 for the moving of the Company of San Ignacio de Tubac in the Province of Sonora, I selected and marked out in the presence of Father Francisco Garces and Lieutenant Juan de Carmona a place known as San Augustin del Tucson as the new site of the Presidio. It is situated at a distance of eighteen leagues from Tubac, fulfills the requirements of water, pasture, and wood, and effectively closes the Apache Frontier. The designation of the new presidio becomes official with the signatures of myself, Father Francisco Garces, and Lieutenant Juan Carmona, at this Mission of San Xavier del Bac, on this Twentieth Day of August of the Year 1775.

The Presidio, or army base, was moved north from Tubac to protect the local inhabitants from Apache raiding. The Tohono O'odham, being an agricultural people, made good Spanish subjects. Many consented to baptism in the Catholic Church taking Spanish surnames and, presumably, offering their sons for Catholic rituals. Most of the soldiers in the Spanish army were Native American. Col. O'Conor was a bit optimistic about closing the Apache frontier. That would take another 100 years.

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.

I forgot my headphones, so the music will have to wait til we get home this afternoon. We're up along the Russian River, but inland enough that the major influence was still Espana/Mexico. We'll grab some breakfast in about 15 minutes and then try to find a way home that isn't a nightmare. Coming up saturday morning was brutal, stop and go from the Richmnd/San Rafael Brigde up to beyond Santa Rosa.

Have a great day
