The Logos of Eris
A high garden wall you erect around a wedding
where the bride was dragged to the altar
By a man who bound her ambitions, and claimed
Consent through conquest. But that is as normal
To those who see only the assent and not the quivering voice
that delivers lies. The shivered glances that the conquered
chance, in anticipation of the next silencing blow
from loving warden's hand that he claims is a kiss.
No, I did not feel jealousy for being excluded
from such a grand and royal gathering of mutes.
Perhaps if there had been some squeak of protest
from a goddess regarding the entire affair
I might have passed it by. Left well enough alone.
But not one word of complaint was raised as Peleus
Claimed his prize for his hard won victory
over a woman's honest and repeated rejection.
So in the spirit of such games I crafted a gift
unlike any seen within memory of the gods.
A shining fruit, inedible, useless. A singular award.
Marked with only a single phrase, which was to be their undoing.
No, it was not To the fairest, for beauty is a poor measure
of the depths of the god's virtue. Instead I inscribed
upon the fruit the prize that all Gods desire.
That inestimable font of value that they cherish.
Into the throng of worship, peace, and agreement,
Into the peace of those that held the leashes.
The words upon the apple were simple, and offered
Praise and honors supreme. Prayers and glory.
To the One True God.
And the wedding was thrown into turmoil.
The matter was always at the tip of the tongue
but with it laid open the Gods lunged upon each other
and declared heresy and betrayal to be the normal.
Slights long buried and forgiven were unearthed
Old wounds ached anew for repayment.
And upon the field of Troy they bled for their anger
they killed for their rage. Prizes in heaps within tents.
Eventually victory may be claimed but it will be hollow
and unimaginably dull to be a god without peers.
The time will come when the garden wall is rebuilt
And the new gods sing praises to one who violates
There will be always a new apple to craft.

So, yeah, Eris is not in the Goddess section...
But rather in the Muses section because she really sets the scene more than is a major player.
And yes, Eris has an interesting take on it that I didn't expect. I honestly almost excluded her from this piece, and then I remembered that she absolutely deserved an invitation.
Thanks to Eris for her words, and the Muses for relaying them.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Good morning, detroit. A great take on Eris and the
challenge, I love it. I also find much in this:
Eventually victory may be claimed but it will be hollow
and unimaginably dull to be a god without peers.
What says that about the Abramic diety? Is that why Satan is a necessity, to provide a foil and challenge? Man is but some mere patsy, worse than even Twain imagined? Bwahahaha. Thank you, Eris.
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Thanks for some thought provoking questions...
I'm of the opinion that Satan is Prince John to The Abrahamic God's King Richard. You don't really want either running things, but one of em is a hell of a lot better at PR.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Two interesting works of fiction that investigate the
problem of satan and his role:
Memnoch, the Devil by Ann Rice
Satan: His Psychotherapy and Cure by the Unfortunate Dr. Kassler, JSPS by Jeremy Leven.
The two works are unlike each other, but both are thought-provoking.
The earth is a multibillion-year-old sphere.
The Nazis killed millions of Jews.
On 9/11/01 a Boeing 757 (AA77) flew into the Pentagon.
AGCC is happening.
If you cannot accept these facts, I cannot fake an interest in any of your opinions.
Of course, I also am fond of "The Screwtape Letters"
For the most part I find Christian mythology dull and repetitive. Feels like a Disney version of a Disney version half of the time, but then, what do you expect from a mythology written by committee.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
seems relevant

Also a dwarf planet...
As well as the goddess of discord...
Herein you will find active learnings on the ways of the goddess Eris and all things chaotic. Discordia Wikia (aka Discordipedia TNG) is like what would happen if Wikipedia and and Uncyclopedia, had a baby wiki in Her image.

The dwarf planet Eris was discovered by the Palomar Observatory-based team of Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz on January 5, 2005, from images taken on October 21, 2003. The discovery was announced on July 29, 2005. It was originally called "Planet X" and nicknamed Xena after the character of the television program of the same name. Its then only known moon was called "Gabrielle" in honor of Xena's companion. Erisians (aka Discordians) Professor Mu-Chao with Reverend Loveshade began a campaign to get the planet named Eris or Discordia; this became known as "The Jake that Changed a World." The planet, re-classified as a dwarf planet along with Pluto, was named Eris on September 13, 2006 by the International Astronomical Union. The moon, named Shamlicht by Erisians, was officially named Dysnomia after Eris' daughter, the daemon of lawlessness. (This may have also been a reference to Xena who was played by Lucy Lawless).

Interesting how the apple plays such a role in so many myths isn't it? Thanks for the new logos!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Thanks for reading!
And she wanted to talk about another one of the causes of the Trojan war.
I'm finding that the Muses are painting a much deeper picture of what led up to it than Homer did. Of course, this isn't JUST about Troy, and it's not just about the Olympian Gods. I think that wars really never change, and when you talk about one, you're really talking about all of them.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Heh, thanks for that dive into discordiana, Lookout. I'll have
to browse around the wiki when I get time.

you and eyo introduced me
discordiana, but when I looked up Eris I was surprised to see the (obvious?)connections. Might make a good essay.

Gotta be honest, I did extremely little research.

My understanding is that the Principia Discordia came into the world in a not dissimilar fashion! But do go and read it; it's a hoot!
