i imagine you are aching to get on the road again; me too, i dream about traveling more.
been a mixed-metaphor week here, five whitecoat visits and rehab for the shoulder interspersed with gorgeous mountain cool: picked blackberries one afternoon and my arms and legs look like i played with a den full of puppies with sharp teeth and claws, scratches all over and one day i surprised a large doe as she was eating the early apples--she grunted and snorted at me to stay away, we shared the apples as she moved a short distance uphill, returning as i moved away; a special conversation we had; caught 6 fish for eating yesterday, yummy tonight.
All-in-all a good simple week. Glad you liked the poem as i guess the question is why in middle-ages do most seemingly move away from childhood's magic only to return closer to walking on...many answers to ponder; thankfully not all lose creativity as they matriculate; thank the spirits for all the artists breathing beauty and leading us to see.

my week to cook starts tomorrow. So far I have two meals planned, maybe 3. Ah well. The sun is coming up but it is slightly foggy & there is no dawn chorus yet.
Anybody remember how the scheduler works? I always do my OT at 3:00:00 am, but dunno if that is est or local or what. I think I'm gonna find out the hard way rsn. Heh.

Good morning, el; not sure, but i think the scheduler is set to
central time.
Splurged on a half pound of large East Coast shrimp on sale this week and made an old favorite i learned from a French chef, it's simple so i'll share:
Basic ingredients: large shrimp with heads on, unsalted butter, a lemon, a pasta, most any pasta will work, the chef used a mixture of spinach and Tuscan fettuccine for color mostly; a grated hard cheese, Pecorino Romano or Asiago or what one has on hand.
Begin by softly sauteing one-half a large onion, add a half cup of chopped celery if you wish in olive oil, i often do a dash of hot pepper flakes or your favorite fresh hot pepper, not to much...careful not to burn; next, add chopped garlic to taste and simmer while you bring pasta water to boil with a pinch of salt.
Make a side salad during this cooking.
3 minutes before the pasta is aldente, add one-half stick of butter, lemon zest and the juice of half lemon to saute adding the shrimp with shells and heads on last, watch the color of the shrimp so as not to overcook bout a minute on each side.
Drain the pasta.
add a dash of dry white wine to saute and for a summer taste add a fresh herb, basil, cilantro, whatever you desire, sometime i add fresh tasty tomatoes, a handful chopped.
Taste the reducing liquid and adjust by adding more butter or lemon, wine or herbs; blend in the pasta and let it meld while you sip a glass of wine.
Toss pasta in center of plate arranging the shrimp around with one on top; grind pepper and add grated cheese to heart's desire; squeeze the remaining lemon juice over the serving.
Have napkins ready as you peal the shrimp and suck the sweet juices from the heads.
The chef's oysters and champagne was to die for, too.

My aunt and uncle who lived across the field were educators and second parents to us . . . had a large book called "Indians." It had probably that scene, but many horrific images of injustices committed against native peoples. It imprinted on my young mind and I have that book now.

I grew up in those intersecting worlds.
I didn't know what I was seeing at the time, but years later it began to haunt me. Now I struggle with what was done. What we did. Americans cannot seem to come to terms with the privilege that genocide gave them. They want to believe that this continent belongs to them because they were the better people. They will not redress it, and this has cast a shadow across our inner landscape. We refuse to care for the land and protect it, shepherding it into the future for the next generation. Because we have no indigenous connection to the land, we are reckless and belligerent about our constitutional right to ruin it. We've become increasingly isolated, psychologically. It is disturbing that we are so easily frightened and unmoored, economically and intellectually. That's one thing that makes us very different from China or Russia, civilizations that walk on the bones of their ancestors. We are modern migrants, and that matters a great deal. The people we call migrants are the indigenous Americans. Diego Rivera's mural (which is quite a bit larger than pictured here) tells and foretells this story.

So, looks like the Right wing has claimed a scalp in the ongoing "Which Pervert are we going to Bust Today?" outrage. This time it claimed James Gunn, for some bad jokes before he was famous. Of course, the accusers claim that he must be held to the same standards as Roseanne... so another bigwig who spoke up about politics is laid low by the mob. (Disney fired him.) Of course, THIS time it's the centrists screaming that it was JUST a joke, and that it's unfair to fire him for that. Which makes me laugh my ass off, because anybody who couldn't see this one coming a mile off wasn't paying attention. I mean seriously, this was a guy who made a video game that... oh hell with it, I'll just link to the trailer. It was only a matter of time before the sex-negative crusaders went after him.

It's been a fun bunch of pieces, and I'm looking at around 29 minutes so far. (Assuming actors who aren't OVERLY obsessed with doing bits of business on every line, and who don't insist on adding pauses when the line breaks and Capitalization CLEARLY show where you're supposed to pause...)
Sorry, sorry, Shakespeare fan complaint about some actors who think they know better than the playwright...

organic apple cider vinegar with the mother, i normally purchase the Bragg brand, but any with the mother will do. i suggest morning and night until you have relief, then i normally taper down to just a swallow a morning, supposedly good for many things.

This week I am freezing peaches all week. Hard work, but a wonderful thing since the last time we had a peach crop was 2012. I don't spray pesticides on them, so miraculously there are few worms.
Also . . . geoengineering today . . . yay!!! That means those wispy clouds were in the sky this morning and let me work outside a couple hours longer. This is a hot week in Texas. No geoengineering until today. My thermometer in the sun has been between 115 and 120 this week.
My estimation is that TPTB thought . . . "Well, OK . . . it is July. We can slack off on the geoengineering for a bit because this is Texas. It is supposed to be hot." But then when it was getting to 120, they panicked now saying, "It is not supposed to be this frickin' hot! We had better tone it down a bit." So they decided to give us cloud cover this morning.
I am just going with it. Picking peaches, figs, Armenian cucumbers, butternut squash. And replanting all sorts of things. Up high in the trees, there are gobs of wild mustang grapes. I discovered that my high tree picking tool I use for peaches will reach the grapes too . . . so grape jelly is the plan.
I am becoming increasingly under the opinion that we need to start screaming, "They are geoengineering to fool us about the climate crisis. But now we need geoengineering along with our reduction of fossil fuels to survive."

Hey Marilyn, glad you had a respite from the heat...
congrats on your bountiful garden. Red grapes and musgadines grow in NC. Mom and i used to trespass in the day to pick them, even though grandpa had a trellis on cedar poles you could walk under. Love em.
Planning to make apple butter, juice, maybe dry some for fried pies and freeze as much as i've space for as they are abundant and free for the hiking.
friend gave me some blackberry preserves she'd just made Thursday. When winter come, pancakes with blackberries and maple syrup are hard to beat.

I have family in SC and NC
It is beautiful country. My dad's youngest sister Jeanie (a nurse), who just turned 90 yesterday, married a doctor, Dr. Bill Hiott, and moved to York, SC. Six cousins. They are all advocates for peace, uplifting the poor, etc.
That part of the U.S. is the most beautiful IMO.
